  1. I prefer the plain ol' funeral and burial at a gravesite. I'm not exactly sure why, other than the fact that when I was really young, my family would take me to the gravesites of relatives and it never bothered me. I actually kindof like grave yards (not in a morbid way, though). I just like all of the history that is contained there and having a single spot to go to pay my respects. That reminds me... I want to visit my friend's site soon.

The cryogenic option sounds interesting too...

I too am fascinated by graveyards. The history there is astounding, and very sobering.

I am into uncovering my family roots, and due to this I think that graveyards are invaluable. My parents had their children's names listed on the back of their head stone at my request. Makes the research a tad easier when it's there in stone.

This being said, I still want to be cremated, as I stated earlier.

  2. Do all these political figures really mourn the Pope's passing or do they just appreciate an opportunity to go before the camera and say the right things to the right people?

And I keep wondering - would all the news programs be cancelled for lack of news this week if the Pope hadn't died or would we still be hearing about the Schiavo debate?  Yesterday, this one reporter was actually smiling while he reported the vigil - he could have tried to be a bit more reserved. :P

I don't think they mourn in away you mourn the passing a friend or even a co-worker.

Politicians are the countries diplomats in these types of situations.

They must show proper respect to what the person represented for the sake of diplomacy.

  3. I like to read books about children and their near death experiences.

The one that comes to mind most is of a girl who was drowning in a very dark water. And those in her boating party were frantically looking for her, when they saw a bright light in the water. She was saved, but she did have a ND experience.

She talked of walking into a white light full of love and of then being sharply pulled back into her body.

Interpret anyway you like it, but she thinks that they saw the white light in the water. :P

  4. the reason that it looks like a shell is because the brain is dead. nothing in the body works once the brain is dead, even the spark that you see in people's eyes. time ceases once you die. nothing happens after that. you die, and you don't float up into the sky.

Chi, My Dad died 3 years ago.

The phenom's I've experienced have made me believe in spirits, and not an afterlife, but actually a return to where we are REALLY from.

Once you've come across a child who is singing songs, and laughing with someone you don't see, and they say they are playing with Papa, well it's makes your skin chill and your heart warm.

To lose someone you love is like nearly dieing yourself.

I take great comfort in the fact that I know my Dad is there when I need him and when I don't.

I have soooooo many stories I could share that have convinced me that there is another "dimension" that is with us, and we don't even know it.

  5. Very nice Madame Butterfly & Yillara_Soong but be sure to check local laws on the spreading of ashes, believe it or not those actions are illegal in some areas. We had to sneak out under cover of darkness to fulfill a deceased friend wishes

For my Auntie, she'd always wanted to go to Hawaii, but her illness prohibited it at the end.

So my cousins went to Hawaii with her ashes.

When they saw an area that would be perfect for their mother, well a Park Ranger told them it was against the rules.

So they came back 3 days later and did it with no one else's knowledge.

I'm not saying what they did was right, but in their mind they had brought their mother to the paradise she had so wanted to be a part. And now, Hawaii and waterfalls, and a certain flower always make them think of Mom and their special relationship.

What I'm trying to say, is in death, family often goes against "rules" to make sure their loved ones last wishes are honored.

    :wow:

I hope some of it helped.

For me, if I say someone is too nice, it really means I like the person but I'm just not physically attracted to them.

They are a friend, nothing more.
