    Star Trek

I do not define myself as a Trekkie or Trekker or any of those titles that apply to those who love Trek.

I do not read the novels, I do not own the DVD's and I especially do not watch the reruns.

Why? Because Trek became something it was not intended to be, in my opinion, when Voyager took to the airways, and especially when Enterprise did. The movies were more often than not "flat", no matter what beloved character was up there on the big screen.

Now, I'm not saying it's wrong for others to have enjoyed those series or films. I'm happy you found something that brought you to the world of Trek, though I have considered for years that Trek has splintered into something that I had no love for, it had become defined by those who didn't have "the vision" and made it tired and boring.

I never gave up hope, but for me, Trek had become a golden memory of watching the TOS reruns with my brothers as kids, and of falling in love with Jean Luc and that sexxxy accent, loving the quirky Q and the way they took that series. eventually coming to accept DS9 as a completely different yet viable alternate type of Trek.

It was interesting to watch all the early nay sayers over at STD.com. Wow, so much hate for a film that they'd never even "seen". What had happened to the open minds that were supposed to be a part of Trek? It seemed another confirmation that the way I viewed Trek was much different than those who chose to actively spend time on a site dedicated to a series that was hopeful and imaginative, that had spirit and belief that anything is possible as long as you dare to try, to be that one person who can make a difference.

The theatre was packed. Two theatres dedicated to this time, and both were filled completely, and the IMAX that started 45 minutes earlier was completely sold out. Alot of families in there, lots of new blood to either get converted to the "original" sci-fi that has birthed so much to those young ones, or to scare them away from Trek for good.

I was nervous today when I sat down to watch this film. Nervous because I really wanted the film to be good; nervous that the lady in front of me who couldn't seem to sit still through the previews as going to get my Dr. Pepper poured all over her if she bothered my enjoyment of the film; nervous because I wanted to be on a fantastic ride that would make my deeply hidden love of Trek be able to feel prideful again, instead of just putting it away for good as a happy childhood memory and honestly, I wanted my kids to enjoy Trek just like I had.

In the end, I loved it and so did my kids. My eldest called it "epic" and fell for Spock which fits, she is the most vulcan of my children.

I will not call out what I consider to be petty things, like the lights around the bridge. Instead I would like to all out all those things they did right, which was damn near everything.

It's pretty damn obvious that with this film that Trek has gotten the boost it needed, effectively letting us hold on to those classic and awesome episodes that we all cherish, and remember affectionately, and yet the biggest gift is that it can all be done again, and there don't have to be these absolutely pathetic cannon fights that rage wedges between fans.

The core to Trek was the ensemble cast, and they are all there again. I do not have any issues with how much "screen time" some got compared to others, I love that they all got their due and got to show exactly why they were considered to be amongst the best that make up the Enterprise. I think this extra effort goes to show why those series that took the time to have character development were so beloved and they're setting the seeds for that to happen again in future installments of this franchise.

I loved the casting [xcept Ryder] and had to laugh out loud at Tyler Perry being in the film. Is he a huge Trek fan or something? Indeed I sat there through all the credits and just to enjoy it while my children went on to tell me how much they loved the movie, what characters sparked their interests and asking me back stories so that everything is not an inside joke to them.

Bravo to those who made this Trek fan proud to be able to say so again.

  2. I haven't seen it but I must admit that I'm not overly fond of Amy Adams.

I didn't like her that much either until this film. I definitely think she nailed this part, instead of her typical getting nailed in a film.

I loved this movie, so fun, and the songs are catchy and get stuck in your head, much like the Disney songs when they created good films, like Little Mermaid, Hercules & Tarzan.

  3. "BIKE" COMMERCIAL

  4. I don't think it would be called a snow day where I live, and I'm sure based on the photo's I've seen at other sites, the fall of the snow is greatly varied.

It would seem that since snow fall is such a rarity in England that the country is no longer prepared to deal with it, meaning the investment in equipment to keep things cleared and safe so life continues on.

My girlfriend there had about 4 inches of snow and everything was closed. It reminds me of when my brother was stationed in the South for the Navy, they had about 2 inches of snow and the airports all closed and he couldn't come home for a family wedding.

Get out and enjoy that beautiful and magical snow!

I have seen stories about places closing because of a small (from my perspective) amount of snowfall and it never made a lot of sense to me. We had aproximately a foot of snow here, more in some areas, and the only thing that closed was schools. Businesses remained open for their normal hours and with their normal staffing. We are used to the snow and ice here in Ohio, although there are still a large amount of people that don't know how to properly drive in it, especially people that own SUV's and think they are therefore immune to the effects of anything, lol.

My Mom has had 108 inches of snow this year.

We've had about 50. You can't even find our fire hydrants! But yeah, we get out and around, things still run, even when it's snow with-20 temperatures. It's just definitely the way your accustomed to living.

It's just like my cousins in England complaining to me about the heat waves during the summer. They think it's hot when it is 72. Now to us that's just about perfect summer weather. Again, it's where you live and what you are used to.

  6. According to Wikipedia:

"Cyberstalking is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk someone.

It has been defined as the use of information and communications technology, particularly the Internet, by an individual or group of individuals, to harass another individual, group of individuals, or organization. The behavior includes false accusations, monitoring, the transmission of threats, identity theft, damage to data or equipment, the solicitation of minors for sexual purposes, and gathering information for harassment purposes. The harassment must be such that a reasonable person, in possession of the same information, would regard it as sufficient to cause another reasonable person distress."

All these bold things are serious crimes, but I am guilty of none of them.

Have you ever ran a Google search on someone to see what turned up? If so whatever information you found is publicly available. That's what I did. The pics I found came from a modeling site that Corina herself provides the content to. Stalking is an attempt to find out private information, usually through means that are themselves illegal.

Kor37's "Van Roy Moment of the Week" is a lot closer to stalking than what I did.

    Normal programming may now resume.

Yes, well delusional people often try to find ways to make it appear its OTHER's that have the issue instead of themselves.

She's plainly stated she doesn't like it, and if you want to show you at least have SOME decency you'll take those photos down and apologize.

  7. That being said, in all the years of being a Trek fan, it's only within the last 3 that I've seen some seriously unstable people who happen to also like Trek. I think it's unfair to generalize one group as such.
You've been a member of this forum for three years... :Hmmm...:

    :Hmmm...:

Yeah, but these nutters are over at ST.com. :P

  8. Yes, they are to those who have a limited capability to view others with an open mind.

That being said, I do think special pictures and autographed items should be kept in one area of a home, not everywhere about..........that's when I would bend the rules and begin to wonder if it was an unhealthy love of something. So if you have a study, or special area just for viewing television, that would be the best place for it.

  9. Today would have been my Dad's 78th birthday, unfortunately he passed away in 02.

My youngest daughter suggested we sing Happy Birthday they way Grandpa would have, and the loving glow my kids had on their faces as they sang and remembered their Grandfather was the most beautiful thing I've seen today and in a very long time.
