  3. Always have been a cat person. I don't find them distant...they give you space where a dog always wants attention.

Rub my cat's ears and he is putty in your hands. His (Smudge) eyes half close, purrs constantly, and he doe punches your scalp....lays on his back and lets you rub his tummy.....Hang on have to give him a cuddle....pity he is living 400 km away with mum and dad.

Had a great dog...a samyod..Chi ... would love another one but our weather is too hot!

  4. No!

I was worried at first that it was a mistake to cast Scott because he is so well known as Sam Beckett. Then I thought, no problem. He did such a good job in Quantum Leap and people will learn more about Archer as the show develops. I also thought Picard was wooden and not much of a captain when he started. Boy, was I wrong. After seeing the first episode my fears were calmed.

It also took time for me to get used to the feel and look of the show, and the fact that the show was called Enterprise. Now I can see that we all need to stand back and accept that this is the first Enterprise and they are the ones who will set the standards and foundations for the future. Give the actors and the show a chance, it might just grow on you. I'm enjoying it...I have to admit I like all versions of Trek! :waaaa:

  5. Without Neelix, who would have been skilled enough to bargain for and wrangle all of those much needed supplies? I liked his character from day 1. I'm glad that over time the writers allowed his character to develop, mature and deepen. Liked the episodes where we could see what happened to Neelix and his family before he came to Voyager. Love the scene in Caretaker with Neelix wallowing in a tubful of water overflowing with bubbles. He knows how to enjoy life!

    :waaaa:

  6. Janeway. She had a tough job... to get her crew home before they were all too old to get back to Earth. You have to be nimble to climb along the Jeffrey's tubes. Also because she was a strong character and because she was the first woman captain we see episode after episode.

Still respect Picard though! We need a poll for all of the captains, then Sisko would win!

  7. Jonathon Frakes did a guest appearance in Cybill (Cybill Shepherd) as himself in the episode - Starting Out On the Wrong Foot.... at the end of the episode he is standing at the doorway and is beamed back up to the Enterprise.

Alexander Siddig played Prince Fiesal in A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia with Ralph Fiennes playing T E Lawrence. Alexander is credited as Siddig El Fadil. A great movie made for British TV.

Alexander is also in Vertical Limit and Reign of Fire which are movies I will now have to hire.

Ethan Phillips and Robert Picardo are in Wagons East. I'll have to rehire this one, can remember Robert but not Ethan.

Ethan is also in the movie Greencard.

Kate Mulgrew- Throw Momma From the Train

    Nichelle Nichols- Snow Dogs

Rosalind Chao- (Keiko) North - a quirky movie -and What Dreams May Come

Colm Meaney- The Snapper, Last of the Mohichans

    B)

  8. Favourite: Lawrence Of Arabia / Excalibur

Lawrence because after seeing David Lean's version and reading; Seven Pillars of Wisdom, The Mint and Lawrence the Uncrowned King of Arabia by Michael Asher, I still find his life was interesting and it is still difficult to see the real man and his motives and separate the truth from legend....Excalibur- because I've always been a diehard King Arthur fan...

Scariest: Silence of the Lambs (when I first saw it)

    Funniest: Life of Brian

Thought Provoking: Gattaca - haven't seen Schindler's List yet.

Saddest: Mouse and His Child/ Watership Down- this has stuck with me since I was a kid.

    Romance: not big on these.

Contact would have been more thought provoking if they stayed closer to the book. The book had me pondering for weeks and weeks.

  9. Here's an unusual but yummy salad...

    Bacon and Carmelised Pear Salad

(you can also dredge chicken breast strips in flour with a 1 tspn cinnamon and some cracked pepper and cook in frypan- slice and serve on top of salad)

    2 cups fresh orange juice

    2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion

    1 tablespoon white sugar

    1 tablespoon white wine

    salt and pepper to taste

3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

    1 tablespoon butter

2 pears - peeled, cored and cut into wedges

    1 cup walnut halves

    1/2 cup white sugar

    1/4 cup water

1/4 pound prosciutto, cut into thin strips or 5 bacon rashers

2 muscelin lettuces , rinsed and torn

(fancy salad lettuces- a mixture of slightly strong and crisp lettuces- I've even used baby spinach leaves)

1 In a medium saucepan, heat orange juice over medium-high heat, whisking often, until it is reduced by 1/4.

2 Add to a blender, along with the vinegar, onion, sugar, wine, salt and pepper, and process until smooth. Then, while blending on a low speed, remove cap and slowly drizzle in the olive oil to emulsify (thicken) the dressing. Chill until ready to use.

3 Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Saute pears and nuts in butter for 3 minutes. Add sugar and water and cook, stirring constantly, until golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

4 In a large bowl, combine prosciutto (or bacon), lettuce and the pear and walnut mixture. Add vinegrette and toss to coat. Serve on a large platter. Enjoy!

  10. Nuclear astrophysicist.  It's a great job, but a huge conversation killer at parties.

Your occupation might be a conservation killer at parties but I would like to know what is involved in your job.

I'm a primary school teacher (elementary for US viewers).

  11. SOAPBOX ALERT

The Australian Medical Association and the Federal Health Department have implemented various strategies to remove smoking advertising from sport broadcasts, television ads and have legislated many laws regarding no-smoke zones in and in front of government buildings/institutions and in restaurants.

Despite these efforts more and more young women and men are smoking. I applaud these groups efforts in a difficult battle and hope that television/and movie producers support their efforts by not showing characters smoking. Especially since a healthy and athletic person smoking a cigarette does not portray the dangers of smoking and the addictive nature of the substance.

Education is the best weapon in informing young people about this addictive drug and help them make informed decisions about smoking. With mothers/fathers modeling smoking at home we really don't need our favourite athletes, movie stars or singers lighting up.

Star Trek sends many messages- global peace, diversity of races, ...... Let's hope that the Aust. Medical Association's message reaches far into the future so we do see a world without smoking.

Mind you we all have a choice- to smoke and not to have to breathe other people's smoke.

Now what about sensible consumption of alcohol? Thanks for letting me think about this!
