Oops! I meant to post this character in uniform! That's my fault, sorry. I replaced the image in the first post. If anyone wishes to change their guess, you can go ahead and do it. Sorry again!

I know what it's like not being able to watch Star Trek. For about five months now I haven't had cable. The cable people have finally gotten around to working on that. (They had to dig a trench in my backyard to put cable in, and they're going to have to tear up some of the road near my house.) I was really looking forward to finally being able to watch Deep Space 9 on Spike, but now I have to wait even longer. And I missed the last five or so episodes of Enterprise. It makes me sad. Yeah, it would be cool to have an all Star Trek channel, but it would get a little old, and I don't think anyone would do it. That's what channels like the Sci-Fi channel are for. Do you have a VCR? You could tape Star Trek while you're baby-sitting and then watch it later.

Welcome to round three! If you joined me previously, you know the drill. If not, it's not too complicated. I post a drawing of a Star Trek character, and you post a guess as to who it is. After an unspecified length of time, I'll post the answer and a color picture of the original drawing. And people who guess right get these cool fakey points. So, ready to play? Great. On to round three.

I've heard that a few times before. It always makes me tear up and makes my heart almost burst. And seeing a video to go with it... with all the pictures... just made me tear up even more. And I always smile when he says "On second thought, I do like to brag..." It's an awesome little "recitation" as you put it. I think that's a good description. And that was an awesome little video to go with it. Thanks.

And I thought it was going to be about Seven of Nine. You know... magnificent Seven? Yeah.
This was great. I like the music. Makes me wanna' go out and ride a horse or eat beef or something. ^-^;;

Thanks for participating, everyone. And here we have the long-awaited answer:
Click for Spoiler:
Spock!
Any critique you might have would be appreciated.
TrekkieMage receives five fake points.
Sea trooper receives five fake points.
Q stole my bike receives five fake points.
Congratulations!
I think I'll start another round tomorrow or sometime soon. It'll be pretty easy again, I think. I hope to see you all there, and thanks for playing this round!

I don't know how many of you get/read Star Trek Communicator (the magazine of the official fan club, whoo!). But there's always a little section called the "Star Trek Update" where they interview Rick Berman on upcoming episodes and... movies. Well, I just got the August/September issue, and there's some news to tell.
(Bold is the magazine, regular is Berman)
Rick, in closing, what is happening with the movie franchise?
There is a project in the works, which involves myself and two other producers. It is in a very early stage right now. It is an idea that takes place prior to Kirk, but is in no way related or connected to Enterprise. It is in a very infant stage right now.
What would be the timing for the release of this film?
I really don't know if this is something that we're looking at in a year or two years. It is too early to discuss that yet.
There has been some buzz on the Internet about it being a mixed-cast movie.
There is always lots of talk, but the real facts will be found out here when you and I talk.
From Star Trek Communicator, issue 151, "Star Trek Update", pg 14.
So, what do you think? I know he didn't say much, but he said enough. I'm already feeling that excitement. I've thought if there's going to be another movie, it should either be Enterprise or a totally new cast. So... does this just give you little tingles near your heart or what?

T'Bree's got it right on.
I also wanted to add that in Leonard Nimoy's book I Am Spock Nimoy points out the whole journey Spock takes throughout the movies. In the first movie, he's tried to reject all emotion and everything that makes him Human by undergoing the rigors of Kolinahr. In the second movie he dies for his friends and is brought back in the third. In the fourth movie he struggles to refind himself and in the end after hearing his mother's and Kirk's mini-lectures -- "Feelings, Spock, as my son you'll have them" and "You're half-Human, Spock, can't you care?" (or something along those lines) -- he realizes that he is indeed half-Human and decides to finally come to terms with that side of himself. So his laughing at the end of that movie is not a mistake. It's just Spock being Human for once. The journey does continue, but I'll just pretend a majority of Star Trek V never happened, and I've never seen Star Trek VI (I really need to get around to that!).
But yeah, Nimoy says that Spock comes to terms with his emotions. He went from trying to purge all emotion in the first movie, to finally accepting that they're a part of him by the sixth. Sure, he still doesn't show them all too often, but like T'Bree said. He seems more comfortable in his own skin.

But anyways I want to read all the time but I need a new fantasy book.Have you tried the Xanth series by Piers Anthony? I've read the first three books and it's pretty good. It's set in the magical land of Xanth and is fraught with dragons, mythical creatures, magical talents, magicians, and puns. It's amazing how many puns there are in these books, and it gives them a very humorous side. The stories are good, and if you like fantasy, you'll like this series. The first book is A Spell For Chameleon.

Yes, a transcript will be available. It will be posted ASAP after the chat.Master Q

Thanks, master_q. I'll be looking forward to it. ^-^

That's what I had been thinking, but the uniform throws me off so I wasn't sure...The uniform is per character and time period, if that helps. ^-^
-
Hmmm. Two guesses to what species he isHumaaaan???
Ha, ha. Very funny. ^-^;; I said this one might be a little easier.
-
This sounds really cool, but I probably won't be able to make it. At least for the first part. Is a transcript going to be available afterwards?

It is kinda' sad, isn't it?
Reading could be on the decline because people just don't have time. I read frequently, and I always have a book I'm working on, but a lot of the time I find that I don't have any time to read. Either that or I'm too tired to read. Reading takes work. And it's so much easier for people just to sit in front of the TV after a long day and watch whatever drivel is on and not have to think about it. Plus it doesn't take up a lot of time. You can sit and read for half an hour and only read a few chapters, or you can sit and watch TV for half an hour and finish an entire show. I think it's a combination of these two.
But in Star Trek times, it seems that books have made a return. A lot of the characters certainly seem well-read. ^-^

Here we are with Round Two. If you didn't join in on Round One, feel free to participate now. And everyone who played Round One, please don't hesitate to jump right in. ^-^
Here's how it works. I'll draw a lineart cartoon of a Star Trek character, and you post your guess. After a while, I'll post the identity of the character and a colored picture of the original. Anybody who guesses right before all is revealed gets fabulous fakey points! And after the character is revealed, you can also feel free to critique the drawing. Sounds like fun? Great!
This character will be displayed with uniform, by request.
-
Riker was my second guess..... That is a good drawing though.^-^ Thank you.
Awesome drawing...I can see it's Riker now....the color helps!Wow, looks awesome with the color! Much easier to tell :blink:Thank you, and yeah, I think the color helps, too. ^-^
Riker was my first thought when I saw the picture, although I did guess Kirk. I thought that was a beard but wasn't sure (it looked a little like really thick lips(sorry, that's not much of an ego boost)). Anyway, nice picture, looking forward to the next one.Oh, that's alright. The ego boosting thing was more of a joke. ^-^ I really like criticism. I mean, I can see my pictures the way I want them to be seen, but I can't make other people see them that way, you know? So I like to get other peoples' perspectives. That's why I'm doing this. And I nest my parentheses while I'm typing, too. ^-^ I thought I was the only one who did that, but now I know I'm not alone. ^-^;;
-
And the overwhelming response is Kirk. Well, I don't know if it's overwhelming, but that seems to be the majority vote. And... survey says:
Click for Spoiler:
William Riker.
I thought the beard would give it away, but I guess not. My sister, who's a good artist, told me it doesn't look like a beard. She thinks it looks like a piece of masking tape with a mouth drawn on it. 0o
TheUnicornHunter receives five fake points.
Congratulations. ^-^;;
So... if you want, go ahead and tell me what you think. Anything I could do better? Improve on?
Thanks everyone for participating in Round One. I really appreciate your input and it was fun seeing everybody's guesses. I think maybe I'll start round two tomorrow. Tomorrow's character will be a little easier. ^-^ Does anyone have any suggestions to make this better/more entertaining? TrekkieMage suggested drawing the uniform for the black and white drawing, and I might do that for the next round.
-
Just one thing, was any of the guesses right? (yes or no) :blink:Umm, yes.

Trip?Uniforms tend to be how people pinpoint any cartoon character of Star Trek characters, just a hint
(and not just with yours, if you look around online all of them have uniforms to at least identify the timeframe/series)
So do you mean I should post them with uniforms? Like you said, it's easy to pinpoint the time frame/series with those. I kinda' didn't want it to be that easy. I mean, look! I've gotten four different series, so far. That's kinda' what I wanted. But I'm not sure what you meant when you said "just a hint."
I'll post who it is sometime tomorrow, everyone. Thanks to all who have responded so far!

Perhaps. But there are basically an unlimited number of different possible alternate universes. Certainly there are universes in which said people made different decisions about marriage, and so there are entirely "new" people in this universe and the ones we knew aren't there at all. But given all of the different possibilities, it is very possible that a portion of these universes would be populated by many of the same characters. If we're saying that it's just one change that makes each of these universes different, then a lot of these universes could be basically the same. Like if I decided to eat an ice-pop after dinner instead of a cookie, for instance, that's really not going to change anything in my life.
Granted, the alternate universes in Sci-fi most of the time are drastically different. But they still have the same characters. But there is still a good chance that all of the characters would be there, especially given the fact that the audience wouldn't care as much if the characters presented were unknown to them. All the main characters need to do is end up in a universe where all of their ancestors made the same decisions as in their universe. And it's entirely possible, given the number of possibilities.
Also, this whole thing stems from the term "Mirror Universe." Well, the definition of a "mirror image" is an image that has its parts arranged with a reversal of right and left, as it would appear if seen in a mirror. It's basically just a flipped image. When you look into a mirror, you see yourself, only flipped. Any words or pictures you have on your shirt are backwards and so-forth. You're the same person, things are just opposite. That's what a mirror universe is. It's a mirror image. All of the people are the same, it's just that everything is opposite. A Federation that used to be peaceful and good is now hostile. Promotions once based on hard work and merit are now based on who you assassinate. The people are the same, but right and left are swapped.

I like to doodle. I've been drawing my own characters for about five years now, and my style has gotten better and more refined over time.
Well, I like to draw Star Trek characters. And, uh, I never really am sure if the cartoon I draw really looks like the real person. That's where you come in. We'll play a game called "Boost Beedrill's Ego." I'll post a drawing of a character, and you can guess who that person is. After a couple of people guess, I'll post the answer and a colored version of the original picture. How does that sound? Fun? I know! And people who guess right get points. Points that don't mean anything, but points are fun!
Just to make it a little harder, I'll post the person without their uniform. The uniform would give so much away. *sigh* But they'll have their uniform in the colored pic.
So, for the first round, here's one that might not be too hard. Or maybe it will be. *shrugs* I don't know.
So, uh, let the guessing begin!

Well, I voted for 1-4, but it's really just 3 and 4 that are my favorites.
3) Thought stimulating science fiction -- these are some of my favorite episodes. Episodes that make you think. Make you wonder. It doesn't even have to be science fiction. It could just be something to make you think to see something in a new light, which, I suppose, is where examination of socially relevent issues comes up. Episodes that have you thinking about them long after you've seen them. Episodes like "Carbon Creek," "Judgment," and "Similitude" were great at accomplishing this. It's the sort of episode that'll come to my mind when I wake up in the middle of the night, and something that I was probably pondering in my sleep.
4) Interpersonal relationships - friendships between characters -- this is my other favorite part of Star Trek. I love watching these relationships between the characters and the characters themselves grow. I love learning about these people. And I think Enterprise needs more of this. Well, there are some characters who have certainly been more fleshed out than others. The others should have some time to shine, too. I, personally, would like to learn more about Travis. But I also just like relationships between the characters. They are referenced often, but Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Others include Data and LaForge. Kim and Paris. Janeway and Tuvok. Enterprise has beautiful potential for such relationships. Reed and Tucker, and as you mentioned, Tucker and Archer. Romantic relationships are a different story. Sometimes they're good like Paris and Torres, and sometimes they're bad like Chakotay and Seven (what was up with that?). I much prefer the friendships and such between the crew. I like character development episodes.
And I am satisfied with an episode in which nothing explodes. I was just thinking the other day about how if Star Trek did a Twelve Angry Men kind of thing, it would be perfectly OK. That's Star Trek's strength. You don't need things to go boom. You could have the crew in the same room for the entire episode, as long as it was thought provoking and some character building came out of it. In fact, I would really love to see an episode of Enterprise where the crew or some of the crew where put into a room to discuss something or something like that. (Hmmm, "Shuttlepod One" anyone?) Or maybe an entire episode of them sitting around a campfire telling stories. (Maybe another "First Flight" kind of flashback tale?) I don't know. But Enterprise can do so much with the characters it has. I'm really looking forward to "getting to know them better."
Not that I'm saying I don't like action. Action and adventure is great, and many a Star Trek episode employs it. Star Trek just wouldn't be the same without tense dealings with Romulans and altercations with the Borg. You gotta' have a little "boom" every now and then. And you gotta' have a little fun. I love those fun episodes like "Singularity" or "North Star." You can't be serious all the time.
I'm looking forward to this next season. I hope they make a variety of episodes picking from each of the first four things, and not so much from the fifth. I don't know if they'll go back to stand alone, arcless one-shots for a while, but I hope they do. They have great potential.

Well, I sort of met him once.
I was little... maybe in fourth grade or so... and I wasn't into Star Trek or anything. Of course, I knew of it, though. My mom and I went to go shopping at some store, and we saw this huge line of people. We went to find out what this line was for, and my mom read a poster or something and told me that James Doohan was there. And I said, "Who?" She told me he was Scotty. "Beam me up, Scotty, from Star Trek?"
"The same," she answered. Mom said she wished she could get in line to get something signed by him to give to my uncle, because he's a big Star Trek fan, but she had to shop. I volunteered to stand in line while she shopped, so that when she was finished, I would be at the front of the line. (Ah, yes, a true Trekkie even back then!) So I stood in line to get something signed by James Doohan. And then I took my mom's picture with him. And now, years later, I wish I would have gotten his signature, too. That would have been neat. Heh. And that is my only encounter with a Star Trek actor.

Yes, I love the Xindi Insectoids! They're so cute, with their big bug eyes and little mouth parts and multi-jointed appendages and antennae. ^-^;; And I just love that clicking/screeching noise they make. It just makes me want to hug one. Aw, they're so cute.
