  1. And its one of my alltime fave jokes.  It's rather pathetic realy

Yeah, it is kind of pathetic. 0o But I guess that's what makes it funny. It made me chuckle.

Of course, you know what the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the question was... @.@

  2. Well..Looks More Like A Spoon Than A Saucer.

I've always thought that Voyager looks like a spoon, too!

Does this mean that all future constructed Intrepid-class ships will have fixed nacelles, or that the class would be unique in the folding nacelles, or what?

Well, I don't know about that. But this might help... I was always under the impression that the Voyager and the Intrepid-class starships in general were sort of "experimental" in the sense that the ship designers (in the Star Trek world) were trying out new things: bio-neural gel packs, folding nacelles, and such. Perhaps they stopped creating this "experimental" class once they found more efficient ways to accomplish the same tasks.

  3. I think it was just great. I love it when characters from different series are able to interact. It makes the whole world of Star Trek that much more real and convincing. They don't all exist separately, and this small connection proves that.

And I actually like Deanna more when she's on Voyager than when she's on TNG, if that makes any sense at all.

  4. Have any of you seen "Foyager Park?" It's a series of flash animations that are basically a parody of Star Trek: Voyager. They're really funny.

Well, with Christmas coming up, I thought it would be appropriate to point you all to the Christmas special of "Foyager Park." It is insanely funny.

And if you like that one, you can find the rest here.

  5. But there was one thing I always wondered. If Sulu's greatest fear is knives and swords and things, why is his "inner self" in "The Naked Time" a swordsman? It's just been something that's always bugged me.

And Alterego, I always love your speculation. You can really tie things together. Have you ever written any fan fiction about some of your ideas?

  6. what you are saying is true if only a constant force is applied... acceleration is inversly proportional to mass only when under a constant force...  not sure how  u were applying that statement to this post but  if i were to take a guess...  your saying that under constant thrust (force),  mass and acceleration would remain the same...but when acceleration approaches the speed of light and force is constant , mass would  decrease??  doesnt really make sense.

Well, I was just speculating and trying to get a semi-plausible answer for you. I don't know that much about near light speed travel. But what I was trying to say is that mass increases when you get close to the speed of light. And that's why it's hard to get to the speed of light, mass would become infinite and acceleration decreases. I wasn't saying that mass decreases, I was saying that acceleration decreases.

  7. No, "Spock's Brain" is probably the worst TOS episode. ^-^

"And the Children Shall Lead" was actually the first TOS episode I saw, and I don't think it was that bad. It was strange, sure, but it was cute and interesting. Seeing Kirk loose control like that was just sad. It was also sad when the kids realized that their parents were dead. The whole ice cream thing was great. "Busy, busy, busy, busy!" The shaking fists and accompanying music were kind of corny, but other than that, it was an OK episode. I always think it's fun to see kids in Star Trek. It's interesting to see how the adults interact with them.

  8. Here's another thing to chew on:

A few people in this topic have said that impulse is very close to the speed of light. If that is so, then Newtonian mechanics no longer works. At such high speeds, time slows down, length contracts in the direction of motion, and mass increases. If impulse really is close to the speed of light, then the "normal" physics you and I would think of no longer apply.

For example, if mass increases, would you agree that acceleration decreases? Because acceleration is inversely proportional to mass? You have to take into account these new things. Now, I don't know if you would still have to keep your engines on, but this could certainly change things.

I also agree with VBG, that it's for the drama, but if you're looking for a scientific explanation, this could be it.

  9. Cultures throughout the galaxy have relied on stories as a means of passing wisdom and history down to succeeding generations. On Earth, storytellers like the Brothers Grimm or Aesop have imparted morals to children and adults alike with their rich tales. So why shouldn't Star Trek's rich and vast tapestry of alien cultures have their own fables and folklore? Well, they do ...

This is from STARTREK.COM. They have put out a small animation called "The Legend of Gorath." It's kind of funny, but it still tells a good tale. It's basically a Klingon fable told to teach children a moral, much like Aesop's tales, mentioned above. It's kind of interesting to see how Klingons would teach their kids how to be good, honorable warriors. If you want to see it, click here. Then come on back and share your thoughts!

  10. I don't think he has a very big ego at all. He's a very humble, down-to-earth, and funny guy. He's extremely nice and a great writer, to boot. Have you read any of his entries in his web log? Or, "blog" as they are called? Try reading a few. I just read a few of them last year, and I got hooked. I check his page every day to see if there's something new. He has a new book coming out called Just a Geek. It's an autobiography. Does that title sound like a guy with a big ego to you?

  11. This isn't exactly for one person, it's more for a choir, but I could just imagine him practicing his part in the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah (this song traditionally shows up around Christmas time) during a slow period in sick bay for some upcoming Christmas show he's putting on or something.

    Would Voyager have a Christmas show and/or celebrations. I would like to think so. Especially since they've got Neelix around, who never misses a chance to throw a party. ^-^;;

  12. MegaTokyo - awesome, awesome art! I believe a "Shirt Guy Dom" is up today, and please don't let that influence your first impressions of the comic. Dom takes over when Fred, the artist, is too busy to make a comic. Fred's art has just gotten better and better.

Pran-Man - this comic is drawn by a comic book fan just like you! He hasn't updated it lately, but it's fun to delve into the archives.

Sev Trek - a Star Trek web comic! It is very funny.

I haven't read these, but a lot of my friends like them: (Plus they're some of the more well-known comics.) Real Life, Penny Arcade, and Mac Hall.

  13. Mine is "O Holy Night." It's a beautiful song, and I just love to listen to it. It doesn't matter what voice part is singing it... bass to soprano... it sounds awesome!

My second favorite is "Carol of the Bells." It sounds best when there's a choir singing it a cappella. But it's also good with an orchestra, and there are so many variations of it... it's all good.

And my third favorite is "Sleighride." Not so much for the words. It just sounds wonderful when it's just an orchestra. I especially love it when sound effects are added with musical instruments. (Clip-clops of hooves, whip cracking, horse whine with a trumpet.) I just love that.

And finally... one of my least favorite Christmas songs is "Let It Snow." I like snow and everything... but I just don't care for this song. (Perhaps having to sing it many times during choir practice one year has something to do with it.)

  14. add what you want altergo. i forgot country becuase i dont consider it music. :P

-.-;; Well, I don't consider rap to be music, but it's up there anyway.

Country is my favorite kind of music. It is so rich and alive. Country artists put out great songs. It is music that I can relate to. The stories told within the songs are things that I can look at and say, "Yeah, I've been there." (Not all of them, but a lot of them.) And you can actually understand what they're saying! *GASP!*

But I voted for classical (because *sniff* country isn't up there *sob*), as I also do like that.

  15. I am of the opinion that swearing is never appropriate or proper. That doesn't mean I explode when I hear it, though. I don't mind it so much as long as it's not every other word that comes out of a person's mouth.

As for swearing in Star Trek, I think it's hilarious! It almost never seems to fit. It's so funny to see them cursing because it looks like they're doing it just to fit it in there. I remember one time in Voyager (I think it was "Drive," but I'm not entirely sure), Kim just yelled out, "What the... (enter euphemism here) is going on here?!"

That pause he had was just so funny. It was almost as if he felt he had to swear there, so he had to pause for a few seconds to think of the "correct" word to insert.

They never seem to be comfortable when using swear words.

And another one that's always bugged me was in Star Trek: V. Why, oh why, did Spock swear? It was funny in The Voyage Home, but in The Final Frontier, it was just wrong.

  16. I don't know if this counts, as it actually happened after Enterprise started, but in Nemesis there is a reference to Archer.

    In the scene where Data and Picard are talking in what appears to be astrometrics (at least that's what they called it on Voyager), a list of the Starfleet ships that are waiting for the Enterprise on the other side of the Rift appears on the screen. If you look closely, one of the ships is the USS Archer. I think it's the last one. It's been a while since I've seen it. ^-^;;

But that's the only reference that I could think of.

  17. I would have no problem being treated by The Doctor. He has great medical expertise, and I'm sure he could diagnose and treat whatever I've got in seconds. In fact, I could use him around right about now. (*sniff, cough* I've got that sickness that I always get around this time of year. *sigh*) I always enjoy his sarcasm, wit, and sense of humor. He is most definitely among my favorite Star Trek doctors and my favorite Voyager characters.
