  1. I wish it would snow here. But I'm too far south for that. I love snow.

    Snowboarding, Snowmobiling, Snow-skating, pick-up hockey.

Oh... you missed skiing. That's what I love to do. I've never been snow boarding, but it looks like fun.

There is nothing like the thrill of looking up on a cold, dark night and seeing small flakes of snow rush at you. I prefer the chill of a nippy winter's night to a day in the sun. I don't know... I guess it's because I have so many good memories surrounding winter time and snow. I think it really is the best time of the year.

I wish it would snow here. *whines*

  2. My only thought is that it sounds like your running your report off the database and not off of a query.  If you're not using a query that's probably why you're getting the entire database.

Oh, yes, I created a query first. Then I did the report from that. I went into the query modifier and there was a condition field. I found out that you can enter a condition into it (such as only entries that are greater than a thousand). But when I tried to tell it to only take entries that were only equal to -1, the report came up blank. *shrugs*

    Thanks anyway. ^-^

  3. I was recently asked by someone to create a data base for them. While I do a lot of computer work, I've never actually done this. I told them I'd try. I opened up Microsoft Access (which I had never used before) and messed around with it. I checked out a few reference books from the library (which really were no help).

Anyway, I came up with a pretty spiffy looking thing. I created a form with all of the data in text boxes and check boxes and radio buttons for easy entry and all of that and I gave it to this person.

It's been a few weeks now, and this person said that it's been working really well. But she ran into a sort of problem. It's with the check boxes. She wants to run a report that lists all of the people in the data base who have the check box for "PT" checked. there are close to 300 people in this data base, and only four of them actually have "PT" checked. However, when the report is run, it lists everyone. And it groups them by people who don't have "PT" and people who do. So it lists all 300 people, and the people who have "PT" are at the very end. We want it so that it only lists the four people.

Also, the value that shows up when the box is checked is "-1." I found this quite odd and I've been looking around, but I can't figure out what this means.

If anyone knows anything about this and can help me, I would appreciate any help you can give. Or, if you know of a good reference book, (Again, the ones I found didn't help. They had bad indexes and examples.) then you can list the title and the author or something else that would help me find it.

  4. Well, look at it from the side of the person who is renting out the property.

I remember one time, my family owned a house. We had to move away for a while because of my father's job, but we knew we were going to come back in a few years. Instead of selling our house and then coming back and looking for a new one, we decided to rent it for the few years that we were gone.

Of course we didn't want people who smoked. I don't like the smell of smoke and it really would have made the house smell bad. I would have hated to come back home to a smoke-smelling house.

And we didn't want people who had pets because... my mom's allergic to cats. I'm allergic to cats. My sister is allergic to cats and dogs and just about anything else. Plus, she has asthma. And no amount of vacuuming and shampooing gets rid of hair and dander and all that. It's not just the problem with animals that can potentially mess up property. It's also that some people are allergic to animals.

I don't want to be constantly sneezing and sick just because I live in a house with a smoke smell and cat hair. I get enough illnesses during the course of a year without that.

I'm sorry your friend is having such trouble finding a house, and I hope he is able to find one. But before you point and accuse of discrimination, try looking at the situation from all sides.

  5. I haven't been able to see much DS9 (I'll be so glad when it finally comes on Spike TV!) but one of the episodes I have seen is "Little Green Men." I was just reading about it the other day when something caught my eye...

    (Spoiler for "The Shipment")

    Click for Spoiler:

The material that Quark was trying to smuggle was Kemacite. Isn't this the same material that was being refined at the plant that Archer and crew visited? It sounds very similar. I just don't know how the other one is spelled. Can anybody help me on that one?

Anyway, just something I found interesting. Does anybody know of any other instances of this material being mentioned in any other Trek episodes?

What do you think about this? Is it just a coincidence or are the creators trying to make connections?

  6. I think that would be interesting. Maybe one or two, but certainly not all of the time. It would certainly show more of the crew's social side. I remember in one TOS episode, Kirk mentioned having turkeys for Thanksgiving. It was very subtle, and the episode wasn't about Thanksgiving at all, but it was neat to see that they do in fact still celebrate it.

And Thanksgiving is more of an American holiday. I know the Canadians have a Thanksgiving, but it's on a different day than the American one. Any other country celebrate Thanksgiving? So if a mostly American holiday can be celebrated why not a Christian holiday? (Christmas) I've known people who aren't Christians but they still celebrate Christmas. Just because it's fun.

It doesn't have to be an episode centered around a holiday, either. Like the one TOS episode with a mention of Thanksgiving, they can just have it as a small side thing.

    And interesting idea, indeed.

  7. Ah.

There are 52 weeks in a year. 52 divided by 2 is 26. So we get a new Trek episode every week for half a year. It makes sense. You see... the people who run Star Trek can actually do math, while the people who run other shows can't.

    Just kidding.

Honestly, I don't know, either. But I do think it is so that we get half of a year. *shrugs* Makes sense to me.

  8. Anyone notice in the trailer that T'Pol is wearing a Starfleet issued uniform?

Yes, I noticed that, and I'm so excited! I've always wanted to see her in a Starfleet uniform! I always thought it would be really neat. So I'm excited.

And I just had to laugh when Tucker knocked over that guy in the hall. They're always knocking people over in Enterprise. I know it's terrible, but I just have to laugh.

This was a very awesome episode, showing us that there are two sides to each story. Or something like that. I really liked the Xindi guy (can't remember his name). He seemed like a very nice fellow, and nothing like those terrible Xindi we've heard stories about. So... if the general Xindi public isn't being let on to this whole weapon thing... I don't know... it kinda' makes me wonder.

    In response to TheUnicornHunter...

    Click for Spoiler:

Basically, Archer barges into some Xindi's house. And this guy is the top guy at the refinement facility, or something. So Archer, Reed, and Hayes bust into this guy's house and Archer is very mean. I mean scary mean. He scared me with how mean he was. Anyway, Archer accuses this guy of helping to build a weapon because he's shipping his Kemosite (sp?) to the guys who are building the weapon. Turns out that this guy had no idea that his clients were building a huge weapon to destroy Earth. Well, the Xindi guy is pretty angry because he takes pride in his work, and now it's being used for ill purposes. He was just horrified that so many people died in the attack on Earth. So he decided to help the Humans out by sabotaging that last shipment of Kemosite. Anyway, the whole point of this was to teach Archer that not all Xindi are his enemies.

Meanwhile, back on Enterprise, Tucker is trying to figure out the Xindi gun. He finds out that there are biological components in it, so he gets Phlox in to help. It turns out that there are little fat worms in there powering the gun. And when you pick one out it grows back from the slime it leaves behind. Very strange. anyway, Tucker wants to test this out. So he sets up a testing site on the ship. I don't quite know where it is, but it's probably the armory or something. T'Pol says he should try it in a more secure location, but Tucker doesn't want to wait. He wants to shoot it now. Well, he pulls the trigger and it doesn't fire. He looks on the panel and it's counting down. T'Pol says that it's overloading. So Tucker has to run down the hallway and beam it off before it blows up.

The Xindi history was basically that a long time ago, there was a Xindi home world. And there were actually six Xindi species (all of the ones we've encountered so far and Avians). However, there was a big civil war. Well, the planet was pretty unstable, so the Reptilians apparently rigged up a bunch of explosives and blew up the planet. Not a very effective way to win a war, if you ask me. Well, all of the avians are wiped out and now the remaining Xindi are scattered around the Expanse.

Hope that gets you caught up. ^-^

  9. Hey, thanks for that! I had heard the Lonestar version of this song on the radio and I really liked it. I knew it was a remake, but I had never heard the original. (Is this the original? If not, do you know who did the original?)

I don't know what it is about this song that makes me like it so much, but whenever I hear it, it stays with me for a while. I think it's most likely the tune. It's a very nice tune. I don't really know what he's talking about in the song, so it's probably not the lyrics that make it stick. ^-^

Thanks again. I can guarantee that you got it stuck in my head for a little while.

  10. Those all sound like great ideas. Though what would a web hunt consist of? Going to Google or some search engine and doing a search? Or going to a specific web site and browsing around?

And a StarTrekFans.net forum hunt? Wow, it would take forever to look through everything that's here!

The picture and audio trivia sounds interesting. It would certainly be a challenge! (And an incentive for me to watch more Star Trek episodes! ^.~;;)

I like TheUnicornHunter's idea of more diversified topics. I know the general focus is on Star Trek questions, but you always do at least one random question. Perhaps questions outside of math and science every now and then.

I can't think of any other sort of "theme," at the moment but if one comes to me, I'll be sure to let you know.

Wow... 482 questions? That is a lot! You're doing a great job here with the trivia. I always find it fun and enlightening.

  11. I agree with LouiseTrek. While watching this episode, I got the impression that the kids who were taking the test were all younger than the normal age of people who apply, and they were all child prodigies. This test was an opportunity given by Starfleet to young people who, like Wesley, qualify. It was extremely competitive, though, because if Starfleet let all of the younger kids who wanted to go to the academy go, they'd probably make up a relatively decent percentage of the students at the school. And they just don't want that many younger students. When the time comes and the other kids who took the test with Wesley are old enough, I'm sure they will be accepted with no problem. I mean, Wesley got in when he was of normal college age. I think this was just an early opportunity.

  12. Well, the hardest of these for me to pick is funniest. Just because there are so many funny moments.

One was I think in "Conspiracy" (but I'm not sure) where he's researching in the computer and he says something. The computer doesn't understand and so he explains that he was talking to himself. Then the computer basically tells him to shut up. People are always doing that to him, but the computer doing it was just hilarious.

Also, I liked what he did in "The Royale." Wearing the cowboy hat... ^-^ And then "baby needs a new pair of shoes." Well, how could you not laugh at that? I liked his role in that episode.

I agree with you on the saddest moment. It was when Lal died in "The Offspring." It was really sad.

And the best Data episode would be "The Measure of a Man." I loved the way Data's friends stuck by him and supported him. I loved how Riker didn't want to go against Data, but he did because he had to, and I loved the conversation he and Data had after the trial about that. This established so much about Data, and it really made us see him in a way that maybe we hadn't before. And it also gave us a lot to think about. It was a very deep and touching episode.

  13. Click for Spoiler:

-This episode did a lot to develop Hoshi's character? (Being alone most of her life, her new found assertiveness when dealing with Tarquin)(Great performance by Linda Park)

    Click for Spoiler:

I liked this part. I noticed that she's really grown as a person. She was very assertive when arguing with Tarquin. And that threat she made with the crystal just wasn't something I had even suspected she would do. I liked how her character was more fully developed. I can identify and understand her better now, because I am much the same way; feeling isolated even when I'm around others. I had always wondered how she had learned all those langauges, and more importantly, when she had found the time. Now I know that she spent most of her childhood studying and being alone. Quite sad.

I felt very sad for Tarquin. He actually seemed quite nice, despite the fact that he tried kidnap Hoshi. He just wanted a friend. That's not the way to go about making friends, but still... he just wanted a friend. And he was really nice. He even decided to help the Enterprise crew after all. He just needed a little companionship, and I'm happy he had a few days with a friend.

I wonder if Hoshi will keep in touch... like send letters. It might be a little odd, but he seemed like a nice fellow.

  14. I post often enough. Mostly I like to read the opinions of others. A lot of the time, the things I have to say have already been said, and I don't feel the need for saying them again. Sometimes I just don't feel strongly enough about a topic to add something. And sometimes I just have nothing to say. Also, I don't read any threads having to do with episodes I haven't seen yet. I'm not able to watch Enterprise on Wednesdays, so I tape it and watch it during the weekend. Then I'll come back and read all of the posts. Usually by then, someone with my opinion has already posted. ^-^;; But I come here almost daily to see what's new and read new posts and everything. You just might not see me post all of the time.

    As for advertisement... I have a link to this site on my web site. Only the best go on my links page. ^-^;;

  15. -The Asteroids are full of Trellium D but are still affected by anomalies? (Could be  a goof but could only refined Trellium D is able to insulate against anomalies)

Perhaps Trellium doesn't work for all anomalies. Nothing works all of the time. Electricity sometimes goes out. Water, the so-called universal solvent, doesn't dissolve everything. Even the laws of physics don't work sometimes (at least within the boundaries of Star Trek's storytelling). Maybe the Trellium D doesn't insulate against this particular anomaly. Or maybe the anomaly has been around these asteroids for a long time and has somehow "evolved" to counteract the Trellium. Strange thought, but hey... Star Trek's full of them.

-The Zombie Vulcans could still operate guns and control panels? (Intelligence not affected or some sort of instinct?)

You think they were zombies too? I couldn't get that thought out of my head during the entire episode. First of all, they were green. Probably just their blood dried on their faces, but still, they were green. They also kept coming. No matter how many Archer and the gang defeated, they kept coming. And then the ones they knocked out got up, too! I just kept thinking about them being zombie Vulcans. Kinda' funny.

Did you notice dream Trip's facial expression when T'Pol told Phlox and Trip to shut up?

Yes, I did! That was so funny! I tape the episodes and watch them later in the week, and when I saw that look on Tucker's face, I had to rewind and watch it again. He looked purely offended.

That T'Pol was wearing a new purple uniform while watching the movie in her dream.

And didn't it look good? I liked it.

Remember the way T'Pol turned on Archer, accusing him of undermining her work and all that? Do you think she meant what she said? I know she wasn't in her right mind, but it was just her control slipping away. Maybe she really does think that in some subconscious part of her mind. The Humans don't fully trust the Vulcans. In the first season, Archer made that clear. He's grown a lot since, then, though, and now I'm confident that he does trust at least T'Pol. But perhaps the Vulcans don't trust the Humans, either. Interesting insight.

  16. Oh, thank you so much, Takara...  :tear:  :tear:  :tear:

It is such a great song  :tear:

    Mrs. Captain Picard

I love this song, too. It makes me wish I could play a musical instrument so that I could play it. I have many different versions of this song on my computer, and I listen to them a lot. It's just such a moving song. It would be moving even if I didn't have any background to go with it.

Does anyone know who wrote it?

  17. Tasha is one of my favorites from TNG. She had such a "tough guy" attitude. I think that's why I like her... because of her personality. It is really too bad that she died. I would have liked to see her more and get to know her better. It was really sad when she died, and I cried while her hologram was talking to her friends. It was almost as if she was giving her own eulogy. It was always cool when she came back. It was like being able to see an old friend. Oh, and her hair was so cool!

And in response to the "it never happened" comments, she may have been rude to Data that one time, but it's very clear that she liked him... perhaps more than she cared to reveal. And after that one time, she was really embarrassed, and she really didn't want anyone to know. I remember one time, a group of officers were meeting with some aliens or something, and Picard introduced Data and an alien made a comment that he was an android. Then Tasha said "and third in command of the Enterprise" with obvious pride and a tone of voice that said "so what if he's an android?" And those things she said about Data in her recorded hologram were so sweet. She really did like him and respect him, and it's unfair to say she was rude to him just because of one thing she said when she was caught in an embarrassing moment. Everybody says things they don't mean sometimes.

  18. oh, one more:

    Click for Spoiler:

-The only crewmen scanned by Rajiin were those exposed to the alien virus in Extinction (I'm going to assume she didn't actually scan the security officer since it would have taken too long, she probably just incapacitated him with her powers). Could this mess up the Xindi effort to build a bio weapon? Then maybe Archer could expose them to the virus and it would affect them to a greater degree. This could get interesting.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I think that Berman and Braga (and whoever else was in on this) are such geniuses to do that! I'm sure it wasn't a coincidence.

I was so sure that Rajiin wouldn't give the scans to the Xindi. She seemed reluctant to do so, I thought that she wouldn't. When she did, I was very disappointed. I had hoped that Archer's kindness had rubbed off on her a bit... but she did say something in defense of the Humans before she was taken away, so maybe it did.

Anyway, I was ticked off about that for a while, but then I realized that the only people she scanned were the people who were transformed. Archer, Hoshi (well, I don't know if she scanned Hoshi or not), and even T'Pol was a little transformed. And looking back on it now, the episode seemed to want to make it absolutely clear that Archer wasn't fully healed yet. If you'll recall, Archer was scratching right before Rajiin came into his quarters.

    Genius! Absolute Genius!

I hope this really messes with the Xindi's plans. I bet it will!
