  1. Granted Roddenbury had no idea Trek would be around for as long as it has, but I think the franchise blew it by not retconing why the Eugenics Wars didn't happen in some canon way.

Especially when they brought in the Augments in Enterprise!

I read the first book of the Eugenics Wars novels and it was actually very well laid out. It talks about the creation of the genetically enhanced kids and ties in a lot of history. I never did get my hands on the second book, which I think is about the actual wars and the launching of the Botany Bay. But if it was at all like the first book, it probably did a good job at explaining why we weren't aware of the war. I should check that out, come to think of it.

Anyway... maybe that would make a good movie! The Eugenics Wars!

  2. There are parents out there who don't deserve this children,

Oh no, ensign_beedrill used the wrong pronoun while saying someone else used the wrong pronoun!

Oh, no! I can never be a mother!

Maybe they will even come up with a program that will carry out post birth abortions on blind or deaf children or children with other disabilities. Think Stephen Hawking would make it past birth in that kind of society?

I see where you're going, but I couldn't see a day when this would ever be acceptable in our society. No matter where one stands on the abortion issue, I would hope that all would agree that killing a child who has already been born is murder.

  3. Nooooooooo!

I think Khan might be an interesting idea... way way far down the line in the future if the new movies ever go that far. Bringing Khan in for the very next movie would be a bad move. It's not original and it would send the message that they've run out of ideas. I am sure there are many, many stories that they could write that don't involve Khan. Plus, bringing in and talking about the Eugenics Wars now would be rather outdated. Weren't they supposed to have happened in the 1990s?

It might be neat to see him on down the line and see what they do with him. I agree that he would have to be different for it to work, otherwise you get "Space Seed" again. I've already seen "Space Seed." But save him for later.

  4. I see other mothers who are no better or more clever than me

Oh no, she used the wrong pronoun! Take her baby away!

I agree that more information is needed. But I think if you love your kid, and are able to provide for them and are up for the responsibility and can handle it, that should be enough. You shouldn't have to pass an IQ test. There are parents out there who don't deserve their children, and if this lady's only crime is having a lower than average IQ, she's not one of them.

Now if she really did just leave the kid at the hospital without being there and if there are other things going on, I would understand.

  5. So I am a really big baseball fan and like to read random baseball news. I came across this little story. The Binghamton Mets in the Double A Eastern League are having a Star Trek night on Friday.

Your B-Mets wear a Star Trek-style jersey to commemorate the new movie and the legions of loyal Trekkies. A sealed bid auction for these jerseys will occur throughout the game with the proceeds benefiting the Newspaper in Education program.

"Star Wars" promotional nights have been steadily growing in popularity over the past several years; is it now Star Trek's time to shine? The B-Mets sure think so, as they are celebrating the enduring sci-fi series Friday. The team will wear sleek and stylish Star Trek-themed jerseys during the game, perhaps signifying the players' desire to get "beamed up" to a new level of play. All in-game contests will be Trek-themed, and head shots on the videoboard will be doctored so that the players resemble characters from the series. Perhaps most hilariously, the B-Mets' staff will wear replica "Star Trek" uniforms of various colors so that fans can immediately determine their rank in the front-office hierarchy.

Sweet jersey! It's cool that they used the Star Trek font. I wonder if they did the same thing on the back. If I lived anywhere near Binghamton, I'd go and maybe try to get a jersey in the auction. But I don't.
