  1. I though that it would be appropriate to share this story today. I never met my Uncle because he died before I was born, but my grandmother remembers his story very well and has shared it with us. If anyone else has story about someone from their family to tell please share it with us.

He tried to join the Army when the war started, but they wouldn't take him because he had a small problem with his eyes. Later on he was actually drafted by them. While serving he wound up being in one of the worst battles in WWII history, The Battle Of The Bulge. The battle was in the middle of winter and it was freezing cold. He was an infantry man and while figthing in this battle he was wounded, shot in the back. The corpsmen came by him and decided that he was dead, so they took him to the area where they were holding those who had been killed. One of the other soldiers was checking dog tags of all of the casualties and noticed that he was still breathing. He could see his breath coming out of his nose. He pulled him out and noticed that the blood on his back had frozen and acted like a clog to stop the bleeding. He received his purple heart and he lived with some minor problems from his wound for the rest of his life.

I wish I could have met him so I could have talked to him personally.

  2. Yep, I've seen the movie several times and it still amazes me how strong of a man he was for being such a little guy. He was definitely a true American hero and one of the most highly decorated of all WWII Vets.

  3. To all those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces, thank you for protecting the freedoms that we enjoy. May all those who have died in the serivce of this country never be forgotten and may they all rest in peace.

  4. Yes, one of the most decorated heroes of WWI. There was a movie made of him starring Gary Cooper. It's a very good movie. He did not want to go into the Army at all and was actually considering being a conscientious objector, but he went in anyways. He was not fond of killing people at all even in war and that's why he wound up capturing a lot of the men. It's a pretty amazing story for those who haven't read about it before.

  5. Why doesn't the guy just rent it out to tourists who might want to stay for a week or so and live in it, have there fun and then move on. I bet he would make a lot of money doing that. I know there has to be a lot of people out there that would put a little bit of money to do that. A million dollars though for that little place is way too much. I wonder if he'll ever actually sell it.

  6. I don't know if anyone else noticed it or has looked at it yet, but this weeks TV guide has a list of the top 25 TV shows with what they considered to have the largest cult following.

Ready for this one? Guess which one was selected as #1.

That's right, good old Star Trek.

  7. I rated it a 10. What an episode. Extremely action packed.

I almost flipped out though when I thought Archer was dead. I kept thinking that he couldn't be, but what a weird ending.

I can't believe we have to wait all summer now to find out what happens. Grrrr! I hate season suspense endings.

  9. I was at Kentucky Fried Chicken with some co workers and when we were walking out I ran into the pole that divided the doors and smaked my head right in the middle of my forehead on it. I non chalantly said "ouch". Needless to say everyone started laughing. I was in pain and laughing at the same time. That was like 4 months ago and they're still laughing about it. You know someone at KFC is reruning the tape of that one somewhere! <_<

  10. I was taught how to write a full length term paper with quotes, introductions, topic sentences, body paragraphs, and a conclusion when I was a sophmore in high school. I am forever indebted to that teacher for instilling in my brain the proper way to write a term paper. The it was reiterated my senior year and again my freshman year of college. From that point on I rarely ever got anything less then an A- on any written paper. It was great and I'm glad they taught me the basics because it was one of the most important things I ever learned how to do as a student.

  11. I just discovered that one of my old high school teachers is now in trouble because he showed the video of the American who was agonizingly beheaded by the Iraqis. I don't think that this was an approriate thing to do and this is what I wrote on another board:

I am a former student of Mr. Smith's, graduating from Grossmont High School 9 years ago and I do not condone the showing of this video in the classroom setting at all. I am now in the final processes of becoming a history teacher myself. I think there is a fine line that you walk when deciding what is appropriate and what is not. I believe that there are ways to discuss a topic like this without showing the graphic details. It is a heavy subject not to be taken lightly. As for the other teacher, who proceeded to announce her anti war sentiments to the entire student body, it is not her job as a teacher to impose her view points on her students. It is however her job to be as objective as possible, presenting both sides of an issue and letting the students make intuitive decisions on what they believe without her help. Subjectivity has no place in a classroom setting where the goal is to make the kids exercise critical thinking skills and come to their own conclusions.

Showing this video in a classroom setting without the proper permission slips signed, warning parents what their children were going to be viewing was an unexcuseable act on the part of the teacher. Permission slips or not, it just was not a wise decision to make and the video should never have been shown in the first place. Extremely inapropriate material for a classroom setting.

I don't know I just really think it should not have been shown. What do you guys think?

  12. I was in Walmart yesterday and this woman came pushing herself through this small space between me and this other man at full speed knocking baseball caps on the ground leaving them there for someone else to pick up. I found it most annoying and the man across from me just looked at me and said "wow, some people's children." I just nodded my head in agreement.

I work in Target and one of the most annoying things to me is people that pick something up and look at it and can't put it back in the spot they picked it up from. They'll set it down on the shelf below or the shelf up above, but not on the shelf they took it from.

Another thing that annoys me are people who knock things down and then just walk away and leave them on the ground. I'm telling you I really believe that most people are just plain lazy.

Then there are those who are just rude and if you can't give them exactly what they need when they need it then they go all haywire on you. They have no patience at all to take there turn when wating for help.

  13. I actually don't have either. I don't know why I never got my ears pierced, I just never had any desire to. My ex boyfriend was going to by a pair of ear rings as a gift, but then he discovered that my ears weren't pierced so it wouldn't make a whole lof of since to do that, lol. Maybe one of these days I'll get up the courage to go and have it done.
