Gary Phaserman 0 Posted July 2, 2005 So, what's your favorite Patriotic song? With Canada Day being today, and Independance Day being Monday, I figured this would be a good question to pose. I am not picky if it's American or Canadian, since both are celebrating national holidays this weekend. Mine is definately Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" By the way, the radio station in my area is doing the top 5 Patriotic Songs in Chicagoland. Here's what they are... 5. Billy Ray Cyrus "Some Gave All" Click For Spoiler I knew a man called him Sandy KaneFew folks even knew his name But a hero was he Left a boy, came back a man Still many just don't understand About the reasons we are free I can't forget the look in his eyes Or the tears he cries As he said these words to me All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all Now Sandy Kane is no longer here But his words are oh so clear As they echo through out our land For all his friends who gave us all Who stood the ground and took the fall To help their fellow man Love your country and live with pride And don't forget those who died America can't you see All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall Some gave all Some gave all 4. Lee Greenwoord "God Bless the USA" Click For Spoiler If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life And I had to start again with just my children and my wife I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today Cause the flag still stands for freedom And they can't take that away And I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died Who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you And defend her still today. Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA. From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea From Detroit down to Houston, and New York to LA Well there's pride in every American heart And its time we stand and say: That I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died Who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you And defend her still today. Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA. 3. John Micheal Montgomery "Letters from Home" Click For Spoiler My Dear Son, it is almost June,I hope this letter catches up to you, and finds you well. Its been dry but they're calling for rain, And everything's the same ol' same in Johnsonville. Your stubborn 'ol Daddy ain't said too much, But I'm sure you know he sends his love, And she goes on, In a letter from home. I hold it up and show my buddies, Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh, Like there's something funny bout' the way I talk, When I say: "Mama sends her best y'all." I fold it up an' put it in my shirt, Pick up my gun an' get back to work. An' it keeps me driving me on, Waiting on letters from home. My Dearest Love, its almost dawn. I've been lying here all night long wondering where you might be. I saw your Mama and I showed her the ring. Man on the television said something so I couldn't sleep. But I'll be all right, I'm just missing you. An' this is me kissing you: XX's and OO's, In a letter from home. I hold it up and show my buddies, Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh, 'Cause she calls me "Honey", but they take it hard, 'Cause I don't read the good parts. I fold it up an' put it in my shirt, Pick up my gun an' get back to work. An' it keeps me driving me on, Waiting on letters from home. Dear Son, I know I ain't written, But sittin' here tonight, alone in the kitchen, it occurs to me, I might not have said, so I'll say it now: Son, you make me proud. I hold it up and show my buddies, Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, but no one laughs, 'Cause there ain't nothing funny when a soldier cries. An' I just wipe me eyes. I fold it up an' put it in my shirt, Pick up my gun an' get back to work. An' it keeps me driving me on, Waiting on letters from home. 2. Trace Adkins "Arlington" Click For Spoiler I never thought that this is where i'd settle down, I thought i'd die an old man back in my hometown, They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done, there's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road, the man inside he cried the day they brought me home, they folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son Chorus: And I'm proud to be on this peaceful peice of property, I'm on sacred ground and i'm in the best of company, I'm thankful for those things i've done, I can rest in peice, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington I remember daddy brought me here when i was eight, we searched all day to find out where my granddad lay, and when we finally found that cross, he said, "son this is what it cost to keep us free" Now here i am, a thousand stones away from him, he reconized me on the first day i came in, and it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me. (Repeat Chorus) and everytime i hear twenty-one guns, i know they brought another hero home to is we're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done, we can rest in peace, 'cause we are the chosen ones, we made it to arlington, yea dust to dust, don't cry for us,w e made it to arlington 1. Toby Keith "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" Click For Spoiler American girls and American guys, will always stand up and salute. We'll always recognize, when we see ol' glory flying, There's a lot of men dead, So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads. My daddy served in the army where he lost his right eye, But he flew a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died. He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me. To grow up and live happy in the land of the free. Now this nation that I love is fallin' under attack. A mighty sucker-punch came flying in from somewhere in the back. Soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye, Man, we lit up your world like the fourth of July. Hey, Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list, And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist. And the eagle will fly and it's gonna be hell, When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell. And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you. Ah, brought to you, courtesy of the red, white and blue. Instrumental break. Oh, justice will be served and the battle will rage: This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage. An' you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A. 'Cos we'll put a boot in your *buttocks*, it's the American way. Oh, oh. Of the red, white and blue. Oh, hey, oh. Of my Red, White and Blue.
Ace 0 Posted July 2, 2005 I'll have to give it some more thought, but the first ones that come to mind for me are "America The Beautiful", "God Bless America", "The Star-Spangled Banner", and "Letters From War" by Mark Schultz. "Letters From War" Click For Spoiler She walked to the mailbox On that bright summers day Found a letter from her son In a war far away He spoke of the weather And good friends that he'd made Said I'd been thinking 'bout dad And the life that he had That's why I'm here today And then at the end he said You are what I'm fighting for It was the first of the letters from war She started writing You're good and you're brave What a father that you'll be someday make it home make it safe She wrote every night as she prayed Late in December A day she'll not forget Oh her tears stained the paper With every word that she read It said "I was up on a hill I was out there alone When the shots all rang out And bombs were exploding And that's when I saw him He came back for me And though he was captured A man set me free And that man was your son He asked me to write to you I told him I would, oh I swore" It was the last of the letters from war And she prayed he was living Kept on believing And wrote every night just to say You are good And you're brave what a father that you'll be someday Make it home Make it safe Still she kept writing each day Then two years later Autumn leaves all around A car pulled in the driveway And she fell to the ground And out stepped a captain Where her boy used to stand He said "mom I'm following orders From all of your letters And I've come home again", He ran into hold her And dropped all his bags on the floor Holding all of her letters from war Bring him home Bring him home Bring him home
Madame Butterfly 0 Posted July 2, 2005 that's a hard one. :P I love "America", it's such a beautiful song. Click For Spoiler O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern, impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law! O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife. Who more than self the country loved And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for halcyon skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the enameled plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till souls wax fair as earth and air And music-hearted sea! O beautiful for pilgrims feet, Whose stern impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America ! America ! God shed his grace on thee Till paths be wrought through wilds of thought By pilgrim foot and knee! O beautiful for glory-tale Of liberating strife When once and twice, for man's avail Men lavished precious life ! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till selfish gain no longer stain The banner of the free! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till nobler men keep once again Thy whiter jubilee! I also love "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "God Bless America" Click For Spoiler Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on. I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel; “As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel, Since God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet; Our God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free; [originally …let us die to make men free] While God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on. He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave, He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave; So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave, Our God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on. Click For Spoiler God bless America, land that I love Stand beside her and guide her Through the night with the light from above From the mountains To the prairies, To the ocean white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home. I don't know why, but it makes me happy. :P Click For Spoiler Chorus:This land is your land, this land is my land From California, to the New York Island From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me As I was walking a ribbon of highway I saw above me an endless skyway I saw below me a golden valley This land was made for you and me Chorus I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me Chorus The sun comes shining as I was strolling The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling The fog was lifting a voice come chanting This land was made for you and me Chorus As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no tress passin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! mj 7 Posted May 26, 2006 Stars and Stripes Forever is my favorite. The words are straight-forward, kind of a standard patriotic profession. But the music itself is so powerful it lifts the entire song to a inspirational grandeur that almost always reduces me to tears when I hear it. I know lots of patriotic songs. I used to know all the verses of the Star Spangled Banner. ( Our music teacher made us memorize it in the fifth grade......long time ago.)

Gary Phaserman 0 Posted May 30, 2006 So, what's your favorite Patriotic song? With Canada Day being today, and Independance Day being Monday, I figured this would be a good question to pose. I am not picky if it's American or Canadian, since both are celebrating national holidays this weekend. Mine is definately Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" By the way, the radio station in my area is doing the top 5 Patriotic Songs in Chicagoland. Here's what they are... 5. Billy Ray Cyrus "Some Gave All" » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I knew a man called him Sandy KaneFew folks even knew his name But a hero was he Left a boy, came back a man Still many just don't understand About the reasons we are free I can't forget the look in his eyes Or the tears he cries As he said these words to me All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all Now Sandy Kane is no longer here But his words are oh so clear As they echo through out our land For all his friends who gave us all Who stood the ground and took the fall To help their fellow man Love your country and live with pride And don't forget those who died America can't you see All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall Some gave all Some gave all 4. Lee Greenwoord "God Bless the USA" » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life And I had to start again with just my children and my wife I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today Cause the flag still stands for freedom And they can't take that away And I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died Who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you And defend her still today. 3. John Micheal Montgomery "Letters from Home" » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « My Dear Son, it is almost June,I hope this letter catches up to you, and finds you well. 2. Trace Adkins "Arlington" » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I never thought that this is where i'd settle down, I thought i'd die an old man back in my hometown, They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men, for a job well done, there's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road, the man inside he cried the day they brought me home, they folded up a flag and told my mom and dad, we're proud of your son Chorus: And I'm proud to be on this peaceful peice of property, I'm on sacred ground and i'm in the best of company, I'm thankful for those things i've done, I can rest in peice, I'm one of the chosen ones, I made it to Arlington I remember daddy brought me here when i was eight, we searched all day to find out where my granddad lay, and when we finally found that cross, he said, "son this is what it cost to keep us free" Now here i am, a thousand stones away from him, he reconized me on the first day i came in, and it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me. Toby Keith "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « American girls and American guys, will always stand up and salute. Oh, oh. Of the red, white and blue. Oh, hey, oh. Of my Red, White and Blue. Here's some more patriotic songs for you guys...
