In the last few years I've found that more and more of the things I watch have Canadian actors or were filmed in Canada (I understand it is cheaper to film tv shows in Canada because of Union regulations etc). I find myself wishing that some cable network would carry some Canadian programming. I realize the Stargates are considered Canadian series even though they are made for the Scifi Channel which I believe is a US corp.

I know we occasionally get a program or two from Canada, England and Australia but I wonder if import as much as we export? Anyone have any more insight?

We have many amazing actors in Canada that are completely unknown in the US but I wouldn't say that we have better actors. I think there are some amazing actors that come from countries from around the world.

The thing is that the most famous actors usually aren't the best. Of course there are some exceptions but as we know, talent does not dictate success.

Canadian programming is marketed around the world but when it comes to the US you'll have to look to specialty channels or PBS to see it.

I'm going to agree with Takara, there are good and bad actors and actresses on both sides of the border. Unfortunatly, in the US to become successful, you need looks, and acting skills. Maybe somewhere else it's the other way around, but that's the way it seems here. The other thing to consider when discussing acting talent is, how well does the actor fit the role? Audie Murphy played himself extroardinarily well, but could he play President Kennedy? The secret to being a good actor is knowing what roles you are good for and what you aren't. I, personally, am a great actor for certain roles (I once played "Tom" in "The Glass Menagerie", a role that I could readily identify with) and some I can't do so well with. (For example, I would make a horrible Micheal Moore)

Has to be done on an actor by actor basis but there are definately a lot of great actors in Canada.

I'd have to choose an option that wasn't provided... It depends on the actor. There are excellent actors from both America and Canada. Movies that are filmed in Canada don't matter. From what I understand, Half Baked was filmed in Canada.

An actor's merit depends entirely on the actor, not where he/she is from.

There are talented actors everywhere but I think in terms of Canada-U.S. comparisons, Canada may have a better per capita ratio, simply because there are fewer people in Canada.

No..I think that Actors are trained diffrently in each country. So you can't compair

On the other hand we do put people on petastuls and call people actors who don't deserve it (like J-lo)

Yeah, what's up with J-Lo anyway? She has a ghetto booty. So what? I have one of those, too. Nothing special. The only one of her movies I'll watch is The Cell, because it's a very strange movie. So of course I like it. :( She's not even nice in real life. I met her and Ben Affleck a while back. Ben was really nice, and why had a nice conversation, but J-Lo kept sneering and rolling her eyes whenever Ben tried to include her in the conversation. She was a total snot. (Yes, snot, not snob. But she was a snob, too.)
