  1. it's a good episode. OK, the theory that space-flying dinosaurs once inhabited Earth may be a bit over the top but I liked the whole plot with a scientist trying to prove his theory and people in charge who are afraid of the truth prevented him from doing that. The old lady in charge was really scary.

    Good episode!

  2. I have mixed emotions about Ezri.

First of all, she's a great character which should have been a favorite if she had been in the crew from the start or joined after one season or so.

But I thought it was unnecessary to replace Jadzia. Why throw in one character for one season?

I also find the whole Trill thing a bit weird. Ezri shouldn't have had that relation to Jadzia.

  3. This is a difficult one.

For many years, I've stated that Janeway is my favorite captain and Picard is my second favorite. But in recent years I've begun to appreciate Picard even more.

If we only count seasons 1-3 of Voyager, I would vote for Janeway. But if we also include seasons 4-7, then Picard gets my vote because Janeway became a bit irrational in those seasons (blame it on bad writing).

But never mind, I vote for Janeway, just of old affection. But it's a close call.

  4. The Sela plot was one of the worst plots in Star Trek (only the insulting "Fury" in Star Trek Voyager's 6th season was worse).

First of all, they shouldn't have killed off Tasha Yar as they did in season 1. They should have anticipated that the actress might change her mind, things like that happen, and then they could have brought her back as Tasha.

Instead they came up with a decent flashback in "Yesterday's Enterprise". That one was OK. But the Sela story was only weird.

They could have had Sela as villain but no connection to Tasha. Or they could have had Crosby back as a sister to Tasha or whatever. But the story with "the daughter of an alternative Tasha" was only weird.

This episode is definitely not a favorite.

  5. I don't understand why they left the forums open for posting when there's no one there to administrate them. Right now the forums are a playground for spammers, instigators, dual posters, idiots and trolls.

OK, the situation wasn't good with the sloppy administration they had but at least they could delete offensive posts and threads. Now anyone can create a dual account and write the most insulting crap which is possible.

The Star Trek website and the forums on those site are bad publicity for Star Trek and a shame for Star Trek, its fans and CBS!

  6. I saw a teory about the staff being fired because of their support for the striking writers. There was a photo and some comment about the strike on the front page some days ago. Unfortunately I never clicked on that link.

But that can be a reason for the firings. You don't mess with the mighty bosses!

  7.

I'd rather we not encourage the formation of "cliques" here.

One problem with ST.Coms message boards was that such activity was not discouraged, it got to the point where only the cliques enjoyed themselves by always teaming up against those with ideas contrary to the Cliques. That in turn would cause growth of the Cliques as people who needed to be accepted joined in

    them

Worse, I never saw Admin do anything there to enforce any rules or if they did it was with the side of the Cliques.

I agree with you and I apologize for my earliar statement. All I am saying is that me and MajorHayes are very good friends.

I had to leave st.com becuase of continuely being harrassed there. It got to the point where I never even wanted to visit that site even if I didn't go to the boards. If the whole site isn't shut down then at least the boards should be because nothing creative goes on there.

Yes, I'm in the same situation, being co9nstantly harrassed by a certain Mobon that forum for liking the wrong character.

Just go to the Voyager forum and look up everything realted to the character Kes and you'll see what I mean.

It's sad that the official forum is going down but I won't be missing it as the situation has been there the recent time.

  8. It's obvious that this Moonshine or whatever his name is and his lackeys are slowly killing Star Trek. I mean, look at the 50 year "anniversary" last year. What a disgrace!

Now they plan a crappy movie to milk out the last possible drops of Kirk, Spock and the TOS legends. Then, when the movie fails (which it will do, believe me), Moonshine and his gang will take it as an excuse to definitely drop Trek.

I'm not surprised at all if this site dissapears and I have my fears about Pocket Books as well, due to the decreasing amount of products.

Compare that to Star Wars which is really thriving.

Star Trek is probably one of the worst examples of bad management. They have a wonderful phenomenon which have attracted and delighted fans for more than 40 years and become a legend, they have a dedicated and loyal fanbase and they totally screw up everything, missing all the opportunities. The way Star Trek is handled is nothing but an example of narrow-minded, greedy capitalistic stupidity in the worst possible way.

As for the startrek.com forum, I don't think I will miss that too much. It has been badly managed as well, at least the recent time and is now filled with trolls, instigators and dual posters who are creating havoc. But it's definitely a loss when an official forum goes down.

And don't forget that it is the OFFICIAL site which is close to being shut down. If that happens, what will remain are scattered "colonies", fansites with a limited amount of people without any contact with other sites and with small options to create opinion and show those in charge of what's left of Startrek what we think.

  9. I do find it hard to see how it will be possible to come up with good stories about the crewmembers when Janeway has been promoted to a desk-clerk, when Paris and Torres have been ruined as great action characters by becoming "Married With Children", when Tuvok is a teacher, when The Doctor has been reduced to Barclay's house pet and when Kes and Neelix are missing. I'm afraid that the "relaunch" in the long run will be focused on one or two characters while the others will be shoved in the background.
    ;)

I disagree. I read the books too and wasn't that crazy about them. As far as good stories go however from what I remember Janeway and Ruvok in essence become teachers while Icheb ends up being someone who from the looks of things will be on the bridge of a startship within ten years. I tyhink there a re platny of good stories to mine in there.

Also because Paris and Torres are married with a girl doesn't mean the end of action stories for them. I can imagint that there may not be a lot of Klingons happy with a human on one of their sacred planets.

Kes left the show on her own accord and Neelix presumeably can still be contacted by Seven or just about anyone else. (Hell he may decide to bring his new family through the nearest wormhole to us.)

I can think of a few plots with the Doctor, harry, and Tuvok to name a few. I think they'll be smart enough to understand tjhat with an ensamble cast of characters like this, you can't choose just one or two. IMHO

"Kes left the show on her own account". Not entirely true. She was kicked out from the show in one badly written story and was humiliated and destroyed as a character in an even worse story, made up only to insult the fans who wanted her back. I can't accept that. I find no reason to support the relaunch unless they bring back Kes in an acceptable way.

As for Neelix, it's almost the same. He should be brought back too. But at least he wasn't humiliated and destroyed like Kes.

Paris and Torres will never be as good as they were in the early days of Voyager. I don't think it's possible to come up with good stories about them any more. What shall they do? Squabbling on the bridge about who will be babysitting this particular day?

The only main characters they can come up with stories about are Chakotay and Kim because they are still on the ship.

If they want a real relaunch, then they must find a way to bring back the main characters on the ship again, like they did in the TOS movies.

  10. Homecoming-a critical review

I read "Homecoming" and "The Farther Shore" when they were published some years ago but I must admit that they gave me mixed emotions.

Let's take the good things first: The books are very well-written. Christie Golden is an excellent author and she clearly have an affection and understanding for the Voyager characters.

It was nice to read about how the old favorites finally arrived home and were received. There were also some things in the story that could develop into some interesting future plots, like Montgomery's scemes.

That was the good side, now here comes the bad side:

Kes is missing! There! I've said it! I don't think that I will ever appreciate or like a Voyager book where The Golden Lady Of Voyager isn't present.

The Borg plague was utterly silly. It reminded me of a Monty Python sketch.

I do hope that this Phytonesque attempt to conquer the Earth will be the last we will see of The Borg, at least for the coming ten years. They were great back in the early TNG days but now they are only silly.

But my main impression of "Homecoming" and "The Farther Shore" are more like.......well, this is going to be one of my usual parables but this will explain my feelings about "Homecoming", "The Farther Shore" and the Relaunch:

A relative of mine is an ardent fan of a certain rock band which had some international success in the end of the 60:s and beginning of the 70:s. My relative is a collector of things related to the band, albums, bootlegs from different concerts, videos, posters, books. But he steadily refuses to buy any of the solo albums the leading band members have done in recent years because he finds their current music lightweighted, adapted and too far away from the magic that the band members created together back in the good, old days. The magic isn't there anymore.

I get a similar feeling when I read "Homecoming" and "The Farther Shore" . As I've said before, they are well-written and there will probably be some interesting things in future Voyager stories but it will never be the same as when they were together in the Delta Quadrant, alone, facing unknown dangers and wonder if they ever would return to Earth. The magic just isn't there anymore!

I have all the Voyager seasons 1-3 on DVD, I have the episodes taped up to "Worst Case Scenario", I have all the books up to "Pathways" and I still get a kick from reading and watching some old episodes. I have re-read books like "The Black Shore", "Marooned" and "Caretaker" from time to time but I'm not sure if I will re-read "Homecoming" and "The Farther Shore" in the coming future.

I will stick around and read some of the upcoming books to see if the "relaunch" will turn into something better than expected but I'm afraid that I will continue to lose interest in the future events of my old favorites if not something happens that will give me the interest back again.

The K.I.S.S. website has been sending an annual birthday card to Jennifer for many years now and she is very happy for the greetings from her fans.

  12. This episode is actually good, not so much for the somewhat unrealistic main plot but more for the glimpses of daily life on board Voyager that we see here: Sandrine's, Chakotay teaching Janeway how to find her spirit guide, Janeway's musing over how to run the ship and the crew. A nice and enjoyable episode.

  13. Last night on the history channel they had a program called "How William Shatner Changed the World"It was all about thr changes in the world that came about because of the StarTrek programs. He did say that Paramount Pictures said that they were not going to make anymore StarTrek movies or programs.

They can always change their minds. Will time will tell.

    H200

If the current hotshots of Paramount don't like Star Trek, they could at least have the decency to sell the rights to some other company which could make something out of it.

  14. Last week's "Desperate Housewives" was directed by Robert Duncan McNeil and also featured an appearance by the guy that played Captain Maxwell (Can't think of his name right now)

From playing Tom Paris in Voyager to directing that crap show? :borg2:

    Oh, what a bringdown.

Anyway, Jennifer Lien (Kes) was in "American History X". She was Davina Vineyard, the sister to the main character david Vineyard.

  15. Despite that I'm more into heavier stuff, like Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin, I really like The Byrds. They have made some really great songs and "Have You Seen her Face" really reminds me of Kes for some reason.

"Streets that I walk on depress me

Once they were happy when we had Kes

Still with all the friends I know

and with all the things I do

It's so hard watching Voyager without Kes

    Watching Voyager

    without Kes"

Another Byrds song "Here Without You" slightly altered by me :dude:

  16. Kes is my favorite!

She's beautiful and friendly but also brave, determined, strong-willed, curious and with a will to learn and explore.

She personifies the spirit of Star Trek.

    "Have you seen her face?

    With her eyes reflect

    The colors in the sky

    On one familiar place

    To be swept into

    Whenever she's close by

    Makes me wonder why

    Run by, don't turn back

Can't hide from the look in her eye"

    "Have You Seen Her Face?"

    The Byrds
