  1. It's funny how people see things different. Next to TOS this was my favorite even after they got rid of Kes. I loved Kes's character

What was it about Voyager that you found likeable enough to consider it your second fave series?

I was able to watch most all of it from the beginning. TNG, Enterprise, DS9, were shown on Saturdays were I live and I worked Saturdays. So I never really got into say a flow with them.

Ok. I hear you. Where I live every trek show was re-played every saturday afternoon starting with re-runs of TOS and TNG and then progressing to the new eps of DS9 and VOY. By the time ENT rolled around this stopped. Sundays were Xena, Hercules, Kung Fu the Legend Continues and Babylon 5. I really miss those days.

Yes I loved Xena Oh so much.

Me too! Those were the days.

    Fortunately there are DVD:s!

  2. Honestly, I didn't really like Kes or Neelix. Kes was a rehashing of Wesley Crusher, only more annoying. Wesley at least had a mischievous side that came out once in awhile. Kes was just all pure soul, never could do any wrong, and it just got so incredibly annoying, that I was glad she left.

Neelix was a teddy bear with a commission. Plain and simple. He was more tolerable though because they gave him a niche on the ship. They tried to make Kes work as a sick bay nurse, but they always kept having her save the day that it just belied her character. And the Kes-Neelix relationship was horrible. I kept thinking about the original notion put forth in the pilot that Ocampans were very short lived. Neelix, being a scavenger, had been around for a long time... in essence, Neelix was a cradle-robber, bordering on pedophile. He's a creepy old dude dating a vulnerable, really young woman. Even by Ocampan standards, she was still a teenager, or college girl.

I didn't really notice what AE mentioned, but thinking about it, I do remember that I pretty much wound up not liking any of the other worlds that Voyager encountered. Seriously, the Federation just sucks at making friends in the Delta Quadrant, but I don't feel it's really Voyager's fault either.

I really wish there had been more Chakotay episodes. I liked his character, but given how much Beltran apparently hated Star Trek, I guess it makes sense that they didn't.

Note that Beltran didn't hate Star Trek from the beginning.

He just got tired of the so called writers and producers in the long run.

As for Kes, she was the best character of them all! I find it unjust to compare her with Wesley Crusher. I don't dislike Wesley but Kes was much better. She was an unique character who really personified the spirit of Star Trek and the series lost a lot when she was kicked out.

As for the relationship between Kes and Neelix, it was OK in the beginning but it was obvious that they would drift apart. But the break-up should have been better handled.

As a fan of the rock band Traffic, I just have to add these lyrics to this picture. Good song!

"Till I find out where will I go, where will I go?

    I don't know, I don't know

I don't know where the spaces between my eyes

Open up to heavenly skies, death awaits with pearly gates

those who've been mesmerized, many years have come and gone

Went to see the Standing Stones

    Some in circle, some alone

    Ancient, worn and weather torn

They chilled me to my very bone

Many of these can be seen in quiet places, fields of green

of heathen lands with countless names

and the only thing that remains are the Rollright Stones

    Space Age before my eyes

    Opening up the skies

    Death awaits with pearly gates

    for those who've been mesmerized

Many years have come and gone

    But progress marches slowly on

Nature stains it has to stay

    Cause everybody is going insane

The only the only thing that will sustain are the Rollright Stones.

    Rollright Stones, Rollright Stones

Went to see an ancient mount

    People buried underground

Come or go we'll never know

What it was like to hear that sound

Black crow I know you've been here

you've seen the sights of yesteryear

You steal the grain, I can't complain

And the only thing that remains are the Rollright Stones."

  5. And more work and more honors, of course...

Sir Patrick Stewart OBE Named Huddersfield Town Academy President

    hudl.png

Huddersfield Town is proud to announce that worldwide film, stage and television superstar Sir Patrick Stewart OBE has become President of the Academy.

Stewart is best known for his roles as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films and is also Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield; a role in which he presented Club Ambassador Andy Booth with his honorary fellowship recently.

A diehard Town fan, Mirfield-born Patrick – who was recently knighted in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list for his services to drama – will help the Club raise the profile of its youth system.

His role is a new one at the Club and Commercial Director Sean Jarvis explained that the Olivier Award winner can play a vital role in the continued progression of the Academy.

“It is fantastic news that someone with the profile of Sir Patrick Stewart is getting officially involved with the Huddersfield Town Academy. Patrick has terrific passion for the football club and will act as a figurehead for the Academy as it builds for a bigger future.

“Everyone at the Club is honoured that Sir Patrick has accepted the role and we are looking forward to working with him.”

Academy Manager Graham Mitchell echoed Sean’s comments.

“One of the primary objectives of my job is to continue the development and growth of our already successful Academy and having Mr. Stewart on board as President will be a massive tool for us in terms of attracting sponsorship and raising our profile in the local and wider communities.”

Huddersfield Town Chief Executive Nigel Clibbens welcomed Sir Patrick to the Club.

“We are delighted to have Sir Patrick on board with us in an official capacity. He has been kind enough to help out the Club on several occasions already, with our season ticket campaign ahead of the current season for example and with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance ‘Keep It Up’ campaign, and we are looking forward to harnessing his drive and passion for the Club to further the Academy.”

    There are two possibilities:

    1. The Enterprise has traveled back in time again and Captain Picard is on a secret mission, disguised as a Huddersfield fan.

    2. What we see is an ancestor to Picard who is a Huddersfield fan.

    ;)

  6. I didn't like her, mostly because I liked Crusher and was a bit annoyed that she had left. At that point, I didn't have any Internet so I didn't know the reasons why Crusher was gone, in that case I would have been more annoyed.

I thought Pulaski was a bit annoying and was very happy to see Crusher back in season 3.

In recent years, I've begun to appreciate Pulaski a little more, even if I still prefer Crusher. It would have been nice to see Pulaski show up in some later episode.

By the way, are there any book where Pulaski shows up after have left the Enterprise and any story about what she did later on in life?

  7. ^^

    WHAT????????? :o

After all those years of rantings and marketing and there are people who haven't heard about it!

Now I feel like a complete failure. :tear:

I guess I have to mention it more in my upcoming posts.

Anyway, The site will be moved in the near future, probably before New Years Eve. I'll be back with the new address.

  8. The Kes Website is in trouble and might be on the move again.

Not because I want it but because of an unreliable webhost which is causing me a lot of trouble.

The Kes Website is one of he oldest Kes and Voyager website on the net. It was launched back in 1999 on Geocities and everything worked fine until those greedy bastards at Yahoo decided to ditch Geocities. So I had to move the site.

After a lengthy search and with the advice from some nice people I did find 110mb.com in May 2009 and moved the site there. Everything has been going fine until now.

It has been impossible to edit the website since the beginning of November. I simply can't log in! All attempts to get in touch with those in charge of 110mb has failed. The recent week it has been impossible to access the main website for 110mb and there are a lot of negative comments about them on the net, saying that they are probably finished.

So I have to move the site. But to where?

To be honest, I'm not that fond of the idea to pay money for a web host. This is a hobby project which I have kept up for many years. I don't earn any money n the website so why should anyone earn money on my work and interests.

So I'm looking for a place where I can put up my website. The problem is that most of the free web hosts seem to be sub-standard to say the least. Some of them are probably appropriate for those who want to create a four-page site about their pet rabbit (or dog, cat, horse, elephant or who knows what). But I want a little more than that and most of all, I want to move my website to a place where things are functioning and where it's possible to get in touch with those in charge if something should be wrong.

So if anyone who is reading this can give me some good advices, I would be more than happy. I don't want to ditch the website. It has been going for a while and it would be nice to keep it.

But there is also another problem. If I manage to find a decent place to where I can move the website, I still can't delete it from 110mb.com since I can't log in to my account or even access their website. Which means that people will continue to visit the 110mb.com site, notice that there are no updates, get bored and forget it. So what can I do about that? Spam every Star Trek forum with weekly reminders about the new site?

Or just pray and hope that 110mb just call it a day and wipe out everything?

This whole thing is giving me a headache! :(

  9. I was planning to use the Youtube episodes to make Kes soundfiles. Now that little summer project went out of the window. :congrats:

OK, I have the season 1-3 DVD:s but it's too complicated to link the computer to the TV since the TV is in another room and I'm not technically skilled enough to handle all those things.

  10. Nothing is free and funny in this world. It's all about money, legal rights, money, official drab products, money, killing creativity among ordinary people, money, killing interest for certain things and events, money, greed and money again. :congrats:

  11. I don't find Kes a "goody-goody", I find her a very unique and fascinating character.

She's nice, friendly and beautiful but also strong-willed, determined and brave. She has a way to solve problems not by using force but to simply move around them and attack them from another angle which we could see in episodes like "Jetrel" and "Resolutions". She's actually both a complement and contrast to more traditional action-characters like Janeway and Torres.

  12. I would remake Voyager's season 4-7 by keeping Kes and give her a human lifespan.

I'm not sure about Seven. I think that they managed very good without her. But I might add her to the crew but omit the catsuit and not make her the main character as she became in the series. I would also have only 2-3 episodes with the Borg.

Another alternative would be to have Seven as the main villain for season 4 and 5 as some Borg nemesis for the crew. Then she would be captured in season 6 and become the Seven we had in the original series.

Neelix would remain on the ship, Lt.Carey wouldn't be killed off and "Endgame" would be completly different with a showdown with the female Caretaker and a decent homecoming. I would also keep the crew together for further missions in possible books and movies.

And why not a "happy ending" between Janeway and Chakotay? :roflmao:

No killing off of Janeway in the books! The decision to waste her, one of Star Trek's best characters was stupid and insulting to the fans.

  13. I watched the new movie yesterday.

It wasn't as bad as I expected, I've had my doubts about re-cycling TOS. I have to admit that I liked it in a way, at least when it comes to entertainment and action and I must also admit that it didn't give me the bad feeling I got when I watched "Nemesis" some years ago.

I think that the movie is OK as sheer entertainment if you simply want an exciting, action-loaded movie whatsoever with old Trek characters as the "good guys". The actors were doing a good job and those in charge of the movie had obviously did their best to get actors who had some resemblance to the original characters as we are used to see them in TOS. The actors were OK when it comes to portraying the old favorites.

But there were too much screwing-up of established Trek history there to annoy me.

First of all, mr Abrams: Would it have been totally impossible to bring in Okuda as advisor or at least read through "Star Trek Chronology" before making this movie? Most of us Trek fans are a bit protective when it comes to established Star Trek history. To simply abandon all that by simply create "an alternate timeline" was a too easy way out..

With that said I must state that:

The destruction of Romulus and Vulcan was bulls**t, to say the least. Totally unnecessary. Not to mention the silly Stardates. On the positive site was that events like the Eugenic Wars and things that never really has happened when they should have happened according to established Star Trek history seems to have been postponed and moved into the future which makes more sense. But the destruction of planets so important to the Trek universe? No!

Another thing is that..........I sometimes I didn't get the feeling that I was actually watching a Star Trek movie.

OK, we did have Kirk, Spock and the old heroes there. But this movie's Kirk could have been Jimmy Jones, Scotty could have been McGregor and Spock could have been Ixtyl from the planet Vorn and the movie called "Defending The Empire" and it would all have been the same. A good, entertaining SF-movie with lots of action but nothing more.

So I have mixed emotions about the movie. As sheer entertainment, it's good and if it gives Star Trek some good publicity and creates new interest for the whole phenomenon, than it's OK too and I could easy imagine to watch a similar movie if possible.

But if future movies, series and books will be created on the basis of this movie and the screw-ups of established Trek history, then I don't know if I'm that interested.

For the entertainment as such, I'll give it 3 points out of 5.

As for being a Star Trek movie, I'll give it 2 points out of 5.
