  1. Midlife crisis? I'm only 21! that's way too young to be having a midlife crisis. but, my father is. his new girlfriend graduated HS a few years before I did.I think she was a varsity cheerleader my Sophomore year

  2. Well, I think "Iraq and I Roll" caused some trouble with the liberals and it's Pro-war message, but I think for me it's a toss-up between "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" and "Fightin' side of me", though the Taliban song is up there. However, "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" has become something of an anthem for our troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, as was evident when the first Tank into Baghdad had the words "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" on the barrel.

  3. I think Gary_phaserman was right when he said it was more based on the coast gaurd. and as for E-1s and O-1s, I am an O-1, but I have also spent time as an enlistedman...gives me a leg up on other O-1s, buth in common sense and in pay (O-1's with at least 4 years of active service as enlisted or warrant officers are designated O-1E, and get paid at the O-1 paygrade would at 4 years service, rather than someone who had been an O-1 and just got their commission.) and I was in a sim where we had more enlisted than officers. they actually took the uniforms and put chevrons on the sleeves.

  4. That has always been a problem with Star Trek, and I have noted it. the only time an Officer in Real life would...say, Drive the ship, is the Harbor Pilot, he's the guy who pulls it at the end of the cruise. by the way, when I was enlisted, I used to rag on officers about getting paid more for doing less work...now that I am an officer, I realise that Officers do the same amount of work, just not the SAME work the enlisted crew does. and on most ships, the idea of an officer getting dirty in the engine room is proposterous.

  5. I liked NJROTC, that's Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps for those who don't know. by my senior year I was the Battalion Operations Officer holding the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Commander. I would have gone for NROTC, but my math wasnt up to spec, so I enlisted and ended up earning a commission through StoA

  6. Still, though, a ship that is 344 meters long, probably 150 meters wide, and 15 decks tall, that's alot of room for a ship with a crew of 150. I mean, I was on an Ohio Class FBMS and those have a crew of around 150, in a hull about 160 meters long and MAYBE 15 meters wide, and 3 decks tall. it was cramped.

  7. it is hard to be away from home, in hostile territory. those who can handle it usually are the ones who survive. those who don't, do something stupid and get themselves killed. I'm one of the former, though anyone who has been in combat and says they weren't scared either is lying about not being scared, or is lying about being in combat.

  8. Voyager isn't a small ship, she's just got a small crew. she's 350 meters from bow to stern, that trasnlates to 1,056 feet, or roughly the size of a Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier. and she's about as tall. a Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier has a crew of 5,000+ and the ship isn't exactly a cramped place. so Star Trek's sense of size is way off. if a ship of that size had a crew of only 150, then each crewmember should have their own rather nice stateroom.

  9. The soldier stood and faced his God,

    Which must always come to pass;

    He hoped his shoes were shining bright,

    Just as brightly as his brass.

    "Step forward now, soldier,

    How shall I deal with you?

    Have you turned the other cheek?

    To my church have you been true?"

    The soldier squared his shoulders and said,

    "No, Lord, I guess I ain't;

    Because those of us who carry guns,

    Can't always be a saint.

    I've had to work most Sundays,

    And at times my talk was rough;

    I've had to break your rules my Lord,

    Because the world is awfully tough.

    But, I never took a thing

    That wasn't mine to keep;

    Though I worked a lot of overtime,

    When the bills got just too steep.

    And I never passed a cry for help,

    Though at times I shook with fear;

    And sometimes ... God forgive me,

    I've wept unmanly tears.

    I know I don't deserve a place

    Among the people here;

    They never wanted me around,

    Except to calm their fears.

    If you've a place for me here, Lord,

    It needn't be so grand;

    I never expected or had too much,

    But if you don't, I'll understand."

    There was a silence all around the throne,

    Where the saints often trod;

    As the soldier waited quietly,

    For the judgement of his God.

    "Step forward now, soldier,

    You've borne your burdens well;

    Come walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

    You've done your time in hell!"

  10. Alot of people try to get into the US Military, make it in, and graduate Basic training, only to go to Medical before their first school, and find something that the docs at Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) missed, and they end up getting a Medical Discharge. it's sad. some of these people could have been great additions to our military.
