  1. Ok my bank account is nigh on depleted and I still haven't gotten a single job offer and have applied to a lot. Well a friend who works in the BBC has put a job application my way and I am seriously stressing. Working for the BBC has actually been a secret dream since I was 16 and I am sweating bullets and buckets over the application. My confidence is hitting the ground and I need some positive reinforcement here guys

You guys have known me for ever (Ok the better part of 4 years) and I need a confidence boost.

Also is it worth me trying for his job, am I smart enough for administrator?

  2. I've always liked "Malik". I have had a few characters by that name in RPs. It's middle-eastern but I got it from Dinotopia.

http://www.babynamesworld.com/ is a good place to look (I use it to name made up people whenever the need arises )

I guess it would depend on the family name. Some good first names just don't sound right with some last names.

Malik, but spelt with an 'e' (Malek') was also used in stargate SG-1. I love it.

  3. Land of the Giants was one of my most favourite shows growing up!

But all of Irwin Allen's shows I loved.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was my personal Irwin Allen favorite.

Followed by Lost In Space, then Land of the Giants.

You wanna go quoting my childhood faves huh, try... The Time Tunnel. man that used to have me on the edge of my seat. Voyage to the bottom of the sea was shown over here after Lost in Space and that in turn was shown after the waltons and that was after Little house on the prarie.

Oh god now I goes reminiscing

  4. I am a broody woman. This means I want children. There are days though when I wonder if pregnancy and parenthood makes some women lose their marbles, tact and compassion towards the childless or even child free of us. This article says it all.

    Article

    My personal response to this article is thus;

Amen. The woman who said you shouldn't talk down to a child after her podling punched another woman, is absolutely wrong. being on a child's level actually helps them to engage better and not feel as though they are being threatened. The fact that the mother allowed her child to get away with anti-social behavior is appalling. The best thing she could have done is apologized to the woman who was punched and taken her child aside got on the child's level and told her off. If it is public so bloody be it, the kid will certainly remember it and how she felt at being told and shouldn't do it again.

I am sort of Pavlovian, but my parents did it and it was far more effective than smacking ever was to me. If I acted up in public my mum let me know that it was wrong. When I was older the threat was if you continue acting up I will tell your favorite aunt, that stopped me a lot

I know my mum certainly did that to me. According to that favorite Aunt of mine I was actually a really well behaved kid... thank god. I would hate to have any horror stories in the offering.

Asides from that the article says it all. I am fat I admit to that and I am actively doing something about it, but to have a woman say to me on the bus not long now indicating my stomach is kinda hurtful. I am not in a position to get pregnant. I have no partner, I have no Job I am a student, and my housing situation to me is precarious (scarily if I were pregnant it would guarantee housing but I refuse to bring a child into the world just to benefit from its presence. I want children. Not one, maybe two or more. I also want a supportive husband, or partner, who supports my decision to also adopt children.

People making comments is infuriating at best and downright painful at worst. People should be made aware of the small issue of tact, that what they can say has more impact than their apparently limited thought processes may be able to comprehend.

    Oooh didn't mean to rant.

  5. Steroids found in pro wrestler's body By GREG BLUESTEIN, Associated Press Writer

testosterone, a synthetic version of the primary male sex hormone, is considered an anabolic steroid.

This just gets stranger and stranger. Some things here don't make sense.

    - Only testosterone was found in Benoit's body. No "roid rage" was involved as the media has obsessed upon.

    - All three bodies had sedatives in them

Ok the point in the article pointed this out but I will explain it. Testosterone, when naturally occurring is not a steroid, it is a hormone, however when it is found to the levels found in this shinning example of Darwinian theory, it becomes classified as a steroid (anabolic, as stated above).

Increased testosterone levels in the blood are associated with masculine behavior, aggressiveness and increased sexual desire. Increased aggressiveness may be beneficial for athletic training, but may also lead to overt violence outside the gym or the track. There are reports of violent, criminal behavior in individuals taking AS. Other side effects of AS are euphoria, confusion, sleeping disorders, pathological anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations.
Taken from The Encyclopedia of Sports Science

Thus the man's actions were probably part of the effect of anabolic steroid use (testosterone in this case given the huge levels in his blood) Thus the media's 'roid rage theory is proven.

All three bodies had sedatives found in their blood streams. Well there is a shocker, who the hell wants to FIGHT against an unwilling partner in their little murder scheme. You make whoever you are going to assault or murder pliable, much the same way as date rapists do and then it is easier to suggest or even force the person into compliance.

This guy obviously took steroids to bulk up for his career found that he liked the feeling of power that they gave him (whilst others began seeing the negative aspects of his personality magnified through the steroids) and kept taking them, possibly in ever increasing lots given the levels found.

He then became a victim of the steroids side effects from the sound of things the pathological anxiety and sleep disordered (why else do you get sedatives?). He more than likely was a victim of the paranoia and hallucinations, especially given the cocktail in his bloodstream. Couple these issues with the customary aggression and probable overt violence often found in those taking anabolic steroids and you have the perfect emotional balance for a fairly calculated but brutal murder or two.

Edit: For this pathologist to claim that testosterone in these levels to be found but no steroids found makes me query the med degree he/she has. One only has to look up testosterone as a steroid to find the many websites devoted to serving the athletic community, not only this but athletics dope testing tends to test for excess testosterone. I am beyond puzzled at what this guy has as his findings.

(BTW Kor I am not picking on you I swear.)

  6. Reuters article as appears on Yahoo

Okay so who really didn't see this one coming at 150mph down the highway really? I love the reviews where they say 'Britain's call them posh and becks we call them who?' But really it shows that the reviewers are American cause we mainly call them 'those tossers' really.

Victoria Beckham is a precocious, vapid, air-headed, narcissistic, rich wannabe something, though her acting is non existant, her singing is much the same and is known only for being so slim she could fit into her own children's clothing (I suppose it must cut costs down a little).

What I really want to know is why must the world become hyper-saturated with this woman, she lacks any real sense of style, she lacks any personality and is now becoming so used to the unnatural fishbowl of celebrity that she is recreating it in her own personal life. Is this the behavior of a woman with any sanity at all.

Understanding that she needs to make money (heaven knows her marriage is unlikely to survive the transition point of David's retirement) and that she lacks any personality or talent she is into exploiting her own life, but really how much more media saturation at the hands of a self publicist are we the viewers of many different media publications are we going to have to endure?

  7. Ok when I heard there was a show about a serial killer and that people would like the guy I thought they were a lot crazy. Now though having seen trailers and because of them downloaded 5 episodes of the show I have honestly fallen in love with the serial who kills serials.

Dexter is played by Michael C. Hall, who some who watched Six Feet Under may remember seeing as the guy who played the Gay Character David Fisher.

I was wondering have you seen it?

  8. On July 7th, 2005 four suicide bombers boarded three trains and one bus, and in a near simultaneous action exploded their devices killing 52 and injuring hundreds more. London's travel infrastructure ground to a halt, stranding millions of commuters miles from their homes. Whilst London has been blown up many times before, never had suicide terrorism been employed to cause such damage and injure and murder innocents. Londoners came together, drank beverages, called each other to check if everyone was okay, and tried to support those who had been affected. The following day we went back to work, in our office buildings and schools. We were not going to be left afraid.

Today, two years on, it is another sunny pleasant morning, much like the one marred by those bombers. Today we remember those that passed in such a cruel way, and we remember those hidden victims, the injured who still fight to receive satisfactory compensation and the families left behind, missing a person sized jigsaw piece, or left coping with a family member who is left with difficulties, both psychological and physical. Today we honour them.

  9. I've grown up with that type of signage Kor. That for me is normal. It actually was weird on the buses and trains between the end of the IRA and 9/11 it was like where are the "report suspicious packages" signs? I know I should have been relieved, but for me I grew up with vigilance instilled in me. Maybe that is what will win this war. Perhaps I am over optimistic these days.

  10. Personally I think I have a greater chance of a meteorite hitting me on my head then of being blown up. And that is coming from someone who takes the tube fairly regualarly, though these days I prefer buses and walking. I love being outdoors.

The IRA, much as bombing people is bad. In the mainland weren't as bad as what we have now. They gave warnings that gave time for areas to be cleared of most people (I remember a few cases (Warrington and Docklands) where this wasn't so, but for the most part they were to do with fear and economics) But that is the mainland experience of the IRA, they were brutal in Ireland from what I do know.

The single best rule of thumb, is if you see something you don't think is right, tell a police officer or community support officer. If you see a suspicious bag don't touch, ask around see if it is someone's if it isn't tell a police officer or community police officer.

  11. Ok I am a Londoner, and to be honest I know the areas the two unexploded bombs were found really well. In fact I had been on dates there many times. They would have been horrific (read may hundreds dead) had they gone off, and it was only serendipity that they were discovered. I was warned by a friend not to travel into London after they were discovered (Friend works for the BBC) and not to go during the weekend. I wasn't anyway.

The thing is, why should I stop living my life on my terms. I grew up with beware suspicious packages. I was born during the era of the IRA, I honestly say I wish these terrorists would play the way the IRA for the most part did (Not including 'the real IRA' who acted after the ceasefire) they always left coded messages, often with the media, and most times the area was cleared. I say most, because there were casualties and deaths. For the most part it was more about economic damage.

Yes we are used to terrorism. Lets face it we were attacked in the one place we always felt the safest (the underground) we had sheltered there in the blitz. We lost 52 (I will not include the 4 bombers) and had over 700 injured. Those affected indirectly did the single best thing to do at that time, we sat and we talked to each other over beverages of tea, beer or any other consumable liquid. The following day we continued our lives, went to work and got on with living. Yes we as a nation and as a capital grieved. But we were defiant, we will not allow some mad men who need nothing more than euthanasia (would we allow a dog to continue breathing were it to attack many people?) to stop us living. We honour our dead by living our lives to the best we can.

The British police do seem to be doing a good job at catching terrorists - which makes me wonder - "are there more terrorist attacks aimed at the U.K. than other countries - or are those other countries just missing what the U.K. is catching?"

I think it is experience, with the exception of Spain who have had to deal with the Basque separatists ETA, most countries have not had to deal with organised terrorism on the levels Britain has. And even now we are still catching up on the new methods. But nothing is without a paper trail. It is not just the British police though that are catching the terrorists. Where in many countries the security/intelligence forces do not talk to the head of the law enforcement agencies, Britain (although at the moment the record is somewhat patchy) has a level of co-operation between the forces. MI6 - which deals with international terrorism directed to the UK, talks to MI5 which is to deal with internal (these often are linked) then when the police can do something the information is passed on to Scotland Yard, they in co-operation will build a case, arrest and charge, and then with the crown prosecution service the case is taken to court and tried. But the reason we catch the mad dogs is because the agencies involved do talk to each other. The IRA gave us practice if anything.

  12. one thing is it cheerleading to say hey right on I agree. Cause if so. the world should be full of argument!

an as for any argument that follows from you directed at me.

WHAT EVER. Am not interested, made my point.

  13. There was a story like this on CSI NY, the woman was shot by her husband, he goes out and thinks nothing of it, when he see's her at the table complaining of a headache he is shocked. His stray round is how the team find out he shot her, it creates a short in electrics the appartment below and eletrocutes a woman taking a bath.
