1. There is a winter storm warning for SE Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin. Anywhere from 2" to 4" south of me, 6" to 10" for my area, and as much as 12" as far north as Eau Claire, Wis. My snowblower is gassed up and ready to "rumble" ! :P My son is hoping that school will be cancelled! :yahoo:

  2.

BTW, Ace,  I have KY upset by Iowa, or losing to Oklahoma in the third round. Sorry, but no hard feelings? :P

I have Kentucky losing to Oklahoma in the third round, so no, no hard feelings. :wink2:

Did I mention I have Minnesota getting knocked off in the first round of all but one of my 5 allowable brackets?

... You know how dangerous those 5/12's can be.

    310688

:yahoo: I don't have Minnesota going beyond the 2nd round. I doubt that they will upset UNC, but, hey, I'm from MN so I need to be optimistic.

You are right about the 5/12s. I see that 12UW-Milwaukee won against 5Alabama!

  3. I don't watch NASCAR anymore. All of the cars look exactly the same. In the old days, Richard Petty would be driving a Superbird,Cale Yarborough would have a Chevelle or something. The cars were distinct and clearly recognizable. These days, all of the cars, regardless of the make, look like foreign imports. Except for their colors and numbers, they are indistinguishable from each other. I own a musclecar myself and have raced it on the track but I can't watch NASCAR.

    310659

I think the Superbirds / Daytonnas were the sharpest cars on the track! That rear wing was, and still is, awesome! So what kind of "musclecar" do you have? I would love to own an old MOPAR, like the Super Bee or the Charger. A Superbird has a "super" high price tag now a days, if you can find one for sale. LOL! It is sad that the NASCAR folks don't allow more individulality in the cars. Maybe its to allow more car owners a chance to race by striving for a more level playing field. I thought the IROC race was meant for that. Whatever, I still enjoy the races! :P

  4. No matter how nice the weather is, I'll always stay inside for NASCAR! And now that we have cable, I can watch the Busch series and Craftsman Truck races!

The Brothers Busch certainly did well in Vegas. I wish Mark Martin had done as well.  :P

Yep, MM had engine problems. But it sounds as if there were others with worse problems after the race. I am referring to Jimmy Johnson, Matt Kenseth, and Kevin Harvick. JJ lost 25 points, and the Points Leader status. :yahoo:

  5. Well, I finally did the men's brackets ~~ I misplaced my copy of the women's; will need to check elsewhere ~~ decided to make two separate ones. In the first, I have the Final Four teams as: Illinois, Georgia Tech, UConn, and Syracuse, with the championship going to UConn. Only one of these is a #1 seed.

In the second bracket, I selected these four finalists : Arizona, Washington, North Carolina, and Michigan State, with the final winner being Washington . I have two #1 seeds here. Its always a question as to who is going to be upset, who is going to be hot, etc. So what are your predictions? Does anyone agree with my selections?

BTW, Ace, I have KY upset by Iowa, or losing to Oklahoma in the third round. Sorry, but no hard feelings? :P

  6. I may seem out of the mainstream, but I liked "The Phantom Menace" the best. There are a lot of memorable lines. I actually liked Jar Jar, tho some may think he is a total dork! :P I especially liked the Naboo fighters - very slick! Also, Princess Amidala's ship is classy - resembles an SR-17. And the fight scene at the end - Darth Maul vs. Qui Gon and Obi Won. But thats just me.

~~ refer to my "mood star" ~~ LOL! ;)

  7. I didn't follow this NCAA season at all, it was something that my father and I were looking forward to but after he passed away I just didn't have any interest in watching. I didn't even see 2 minutes of a single game all season long.

    310586

:P You have my sympathy, VBG.

  8. Poor Aceh and Sri Lanka.

They took the full brunt of that bloody thing. Incredible power.

You know, I was watching that animation and I noticed the waves also apparently hit the southern coast of the Arabian Pennisula.

Were there any reports from Yemen and Oman?

    :P

    310477

You know, King, I recall reports about the wave hitting the east African coast, but I don't recall the countries. I believe that Somalia took a hit, too. I noticed on the animation, BTW, that it appears the tsunami reflected off India and then went westward to Thailand. It would seem that the Malay Penninsula took a double whammy! ;)

  9. I learned of a site with an animation of the tsunami in Indonesia, provided by NOAA. After you click on the site, titled "Tech Blender", you will need to scroll down the page to the tsunami animation. Click on Large Animation for a bigger view. Here is the link: tsunami

BTW, my son told me about this, from a handout at school. Facinating! :P

  10. Go to a local sporting goods store, a good one, not wal-mart :P If you have a D's Sporting Goods, go there...  Just so you know, it's not D's, the language filter picked on a short name for Richard ;)

    Store Locator in Minnesota

    310458

:borg2: Ok! I know the place. They just opened one in Richfield, a couple of hours north of me. Thanks for the advice, dude! :P

  11. Have any of you "hoopsters" finished filling out your brackets for " the big dance"? I haven't yet. I usually don't do too well, but, what the hay, its for fun. I don't gamble - I'd lose my shirt for sure! LOL! Do you have a fav team? Please note: this thread is meant for both the mens and womens tournaments. It just so happens that the Minnesota Gophers are in both tourneys! w00t! w00t! :P I don't know that the men will go too far as NC is in their bracket. ;) But I have high hopes for the women. Maybe a final four....? It could happen. :borg2:

  12. Hello! This is Jaz once again with a sports topic, this time: paintball. Do any of you play this outdoor game, or have you ever, or have you even considered trying it? I'm in the last category. :P I don't intent to dive head first into this new adventure, so I'd like some tips or ideas. My son Luke is all gung-ho about it, as his friends at school play it. Or so he says. LOL! We will see....

  13. Yep, it definitely does! I work in a warehouse, and my "desk" is 10 feet from a garage door. Naturally, if someone were to call me on the phone I may have to pause while the garage door openes and closes, usually followed by a forklift entering or leaving the warehouse. I can't to this day figure out why my boss, standing 40 feet away, expects me to hear him while a forklift rumbles by. ??? :P Maybe I'm expected to lip read ;) .

  14. I read the article, as well, and found it facinating. The planned trip to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt is also interesting. Sadly, we'll have to wait until 2015 before it arrives there, assuming that the mission is on schedule. LOL! :P Right now, I'm trying to get a look at Mercury, but the night skies have been cloudy. :P

  15. I enjoy both very much. But if push comes to shove, its TOS. I don't believe that any other ST series can match the dialog and chemistry of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. TOS was the vangard of all things Trek. Yes, some of the props may seem cheesy by today's standards, but it was nonetheless "way cool" for the '60s and '70s. :P :P

  16. you want the real reason, MJ? a coworker and I are entering a contest to come up with new product ideas, but both of us are drained, so I figured I'd ask you guys what you like, or what you would like us to make, so I can get an idea of what people might like.

    309220

Ah, very good idea! I like Canadian Bacon, Italian sausage ~~ the spicy kind!~~ and pineapple. One topping I definitely don't like is anchovies. :P I once had heartburn so bad, I thought I was a goner! :P

  17. Well, NASCAR fans, the Nextel Cup racing continues this weekend in Las Vegas. Naturally, I'll be once again rooting for Mark Martin. w00t! w00t! Maybe the weather here will be crappy, so I'm more apt to stay inside. If Sunday is as balmy as last weekend, I may find if very difficult to sit indoors. I think the spring cleaning "bug" may have bit me in the posterior. LOL! :yahoo:

  18. :yahoo: Wow! I was drifting backwards through old CC posts, and came across this one, from May 19th, 2004. What surprised me was the lack of posts - only one. Though, maybe there is a baseball thread in another forum, Parrises Square Court. If a mod happens to read this, maybe this ought to be moved there. Else, I may just start up a new one at PSC. Eitherway, this topic deserves more attention. Hmmm... who was it that liked the Mariners ... BakulaBabe?:dude: I hope to add bits and pieces of the baseball scene from time to time.

Right now, its the Grapefruit League in the Florida area. That is where the Minnesota Twins have their spring training - specifically at Ft. Myers.

I'm curious to see if a local Minnesotan, from Rochester, Michael Restovich, gets to play full time in the big leagues. Else, he may end up at another club.

  19. It's been awhile since I posted here. By now, you all know that the NHL season is offically cancelled. :) I certainly hope and pray that the players and owners don't table this dilemma until the fall, but try to resolve it. It would be tragic, and maybe fatal for some clubs, if the lockout continues into the next season.

On to peewee hockey. This is Luke's last week of hockey. A couple of scrimmages with the Squirt A team, then the end of the year party on Saturday. And the parents get their lives, and evenings, back! LOL! :)

  20. I'm surprised that the cars don't have speedometers, since the pit road speed limit is so crucial. :)

    306689

:) Yeah, me too. However, I seem to recall that the drivers gauge their speed by the RPMs. They determine the proper RPM to use in the pits while following the pace car. Or something like that.
