  1. Halloween is a combination of several different celebrations.Today's holiday, however,in no way, shape,or form is like unto any of them, however. The closest thing I can think of as a holiday tie-in (and this has more to do with Thanksgiving)would be the ancient practice of celebrating the end of Harvest time, and the beginning of the year.

I think its sad and a little silly to spurn Halloween as satanic and an endorsement of Lucifer (or,as Rowan Atkinson called him,"Old Toby").Nothing could be further from the truth.

Oh well,I suppose if some of us didn't have something or someone to spurn,we wouldn't be happy.

  2. I think that one of the best things about having been in the Navy, was the travel.I'd like to do something exciting that includes global travel on a fairly regular basis.Maybe a journalist, covering the war on terror or some other story at a global hot spot somewhere.I think I can handle myself pretty well, and wouldn't be afriad to work those areas.Yeah, that might be fun.

  3. It was difficult to not vote for Winston Churchill....but I say,William Shakespeare.I mean, the Klingons claim him as their very own!He had to have done something right! B)

I watched Churchill's biography yesterday on PBS.He was a brilliant man,but rather cold and prone to dark moods.Still,he was there not only for his country, but for the whole world when we needed him. He's a close second to W.S.

  4. On October,13th,2003 the 20th anniversary of Operation Urgent Fury came.Twenty years ago,President Ronald Reagan directed United States military forces against the Marxist government on Grenada,in an effort to both rescue American medical students and end the threat of Communist expansion in the Caribbean. The operation was an overwhelming success, however not without casualties.

At the time I had been out of the United States Navy for less than two-years,and had only just began my teaching career. However,a very dear friend of mine,a brother, was still in the service and was one of the many servicemen called to duty. One of 19 who did not return home.I still miss him.He was the best friend I ever had,and one of the funniest, gentlest people I have ever been fortunate enough to know.

"Tell them, tell them when you get home that I gave all of my tomorrows so they could have today."......transcribed upon the tombstone of an unknown American soldier, who fought and died in the Pacific during WW2.

  5. As long as it spends like the old currency, those bills could be tyedye for all I care :)

I kind of like the new look, though. Its different. What I'd like to see is some new bills with pictures honoring some new people (not that I'm against those Presidents whose faces already grace the faces of our money). But,it should change ever so often.

  6. We will be looking forward to your returning in full swing as soon as possible.  And also the best of luck on your theatre activities.

Agreed. One of these days when you are a big Hollywood or Broadway superstar,I'll be able to say I knew you when....

    :P

  7. I have volunteered to help chaperon the young men who will be attending Gresham Academy's annual Halloween party/dance.I do it every year. Its a lot of fun,and it saves me from having to listen to my doorbell ring all night (not to mention, saves me from having to purchase all that candy).

  8. At first this habit of addressing female officers as "sir" bugged the heck out of me,but after so many years I've gotten used to the idea. And I know many women who dislike being called "Ma'am".So,I vote for sir.

  9. I voted other. I know this CD is old but I still like it alot..Nichelle Nichols-Out of this World..It was made shortly after Star Trek VI, the Undiscovered Country..There is also a tribute song to Gene Roddenberry called 'Gene' on it..Very nice..There are songs on this CD that I like a lot..You're out of this World, Ancestry, Rock the World, Hauntingly, Uhura's Theme and of course Beyond Antares..Some of you may remember Beyond Antares. Nichelle sang it a couple of times in a few of the earlier TOS episodes..Such a beautiful song..

I have Nichelle's album "Out of this world".Its great.
