  1. I perfectly understood Odo's line about her turning in her notice. She is leaving her job.

She is leaving her job, because while Odo had to deal with his friends making comments, she is in hell. What she is now going through is a hundred times worse than what Odo is having to put up with. She has to be on guard every minute for harassing, behind the back, things that people do to make daily life miserable. And if she complains, no one sees anything, or perhaps she misinterpreted the meaning, or

so and so is not like that, etc. And if she confronts the harasser, he claims to believe in the rights of everyone, with a smirk on his face.

I would not be inclined to get into an interracial marriage (I am not willing to have an affair) because while this society has made enormous progress, the racists in this society are very active, and quite astute in making life miserable for people they hate, while members of their own race are quite oblivious to what they are doing. It simply is not worth it.

  2. American auto makers also pay health insurance costs of their workers, where in foreign countries they do not have to pay.

My friends who own foreign cars seem to pay less maintenance. My current car is a Chevrolet, but that is because my dad insisted that I buy American. He is dead now, and whether or not I continue to buy American in the future depends on my experience with the service department at the dealership I take my car to .

However, if Toyota is employing American workers, adn Ford is not, maybe that is a good enough reason to buy a Toyota next time around.

  3. I think they represent an aspect of human behavior, but not the whole human behavior. I think they represent that aspect of human nature that seeks to gratify desires. If out of balance, that aspect can lead to greed, lustfulness, and selfishness, all common to ferengi culture. The ferengi are constantly trying to acquire MORE, to the point of having ALL, if they could accomplish it. There are some humans that are like that, but not all. Some business people are greedy and self-interested, but others are repsonsible community leaders and society builders. You cannot characterize even all human 'capitalists' as ferengi.

  4. The bumper sticker I saw had a single admonition: Coexist.

But the way it was presented was clever, and a plea for peace.

The 'C' was a Crescent moon and star, representing Islam.

The 'o' was the peace symbol from the 60's.

    The 'e' was just e.

The 'x' was the Star of David, representing the Jewish faith.

    The 'i' was an i.

    The 's' was an s.

The 't' was the cross, representing the Christian faith.

I thought it was quite an eloquent bumper sticker.

  5. I regret that they did not get to the Romulan Wars. It would have been interesting to see what they did with 'canon' on this one. In Balance of Terror, the suggestion was that this war was fought with weapons that would be considered primitive compared to the NX-01. That would not make sense now. And how would they preserve the idea that no one knows that Romulans and Vulcans are related?

I wish they would do an Enterprise movie centered on the Romulan war. Trip would have to be alive during that period, based on the dates mentioned above.

  6. Those were nice thoughts. Thank you for sharing them.

The thought of hot chocolate always brings out a smile. For a while, until my diabetes was brought under control, I could not drink it.

( Sugar-free does not do it.)

My mother, a widow, was just reminiscing about a road trip she took with my father. They had to drive a car I bought from my brother all the way across the country to California, where I was living at the time. She was remembering both the special time she had with Dad and the spectacular physical beauty of the United States.

    A couple more:

    Flowers in full bloom

( I have been enjoying my African violets which almost seem to be blooming sequentially. One plant was in full bloom in December. Its pink blooms are fading now, but a plant with purple and white blooms is currently in full bloom. The African violet on the same plant stand has new buds, and will probably bloom as the purple blooms fail. They are just lovely to look at!)

Add sunsets to sunrises. Remember Geordi and the sunrise in Insurrection?

  7. Alright, well - I'll go ahead with my debate, maybe sometime tomorrow. I won't be rude, I will always value another persons opinion and certainly won't start a flame war. In the mean time does anyone know what year it currently is in the "Star Trek: Enterprise" universe, according to the last aired episode?

    Regards,

    Lt. Evans

I would like to echo the fact that this is the forum to carry out discussions or debates on topics specifically related to Enterprise.

You are free to put forth any opinion you have within the rules of the board and the rules of the forum.

Familiarize yourself with those rules. The most enforced rule is that personal attacks are not permitted. You can dispute someone's opinions but cannot flame them for having those opinions.

There are other members (besides yourself) of stf.net who never liked the series Enterprise. However most of the people who visit this forum are Enterprise fans.

Just keep the discussion civil, and within board rules.

  8. Yes...I just switched to VERIZON, and am paying for way too many minutes. I mostly used the phone for emergencies in the past, and am just beginning to use it a little more. Still most of the time it is not even turned on. I like the many features. I like the fact that I no longer have to carry a travel alarm with me when I travel.

  9. I have a whole cabinet full of coffee cups, most with a phrase, scripture , or specifcally commenorating some conference, program, trip.....

One of my favorite cups simply says

COFFEE : HOT WATER WITH AN ATTITUDE

Another one has an infinty symbol curled around the words 'Infinite Possibilities'

Do you have a favorite mug?

  10. Well, I have one that I am not fond of, but which sadly my family considered accurate description of me as a child.

They called my Crabby Appleton when I was young.

The name comes from a cartoon in the sixties ( alas before the time of most of you!), if I even recollect correctly. There was a cartoon called Tom Terrific ( and he had a wonder dog who I think was called Manfred. And there a mad scientist in the cartoon who was always frowning, and his name was Crabby Appleton. That is who my family dubbed me...parents and siblings alike!)

The redeeming part of this story is that my parents always emphasized that they loved us unconditionally, so I was no less loved because I was regarded as 'cranky.'
