Captain Jean-Luc Picard 1 Posted February 3, 2004 Would you like to see NX-01 Enterprise destroyed in the season finale, especially with all the damage it's taking? I'd like to see it destroyed, then replaced by the NX-04 Enterprise. If the show were not named after the ship, I'd have it renamed Columbia too. Anywho, same NX-class ship and same name, but different registry and gives the producers a chance to upgrade the model and sets. What do you guys think? Captain Jean-Luc Picard 1 Posted February 4, 2004 What I mean is, sure, we've seen the "ship" from each series get destroyed in a "reset the timeline to save the ship" episode. We've also seen the Enterprise destroyed in the TOS movies and the Enterprise-D destroyed in the TNG movies. However, what has not been done before is to have the ship destroyed durring the series and not be saved. However, to avoid the cost of designing a new ship, the replacement could be the same class and have the same name (the show is named after the ship), but with upgrades sets, model, and registry number. The reason why I'd like to see this happen is not for kewl-factor like in "Twilight", a cool episode, but to have the audience go, "OMG! I can't believe the NX-01 was actually destroyed! Oh, crappity crap!" Why would the Humans need to show up the Vulcans? They could prove themselves by saving Earth from a very dangerous enemy, the Xindi, and going as far as sacrificing their first warp-five ship, the NX-01 Enterprise, something Humanity invested so much in. They'll crash land on a planet. they meet a pre-warp culture. This pre-warp culture would be very close to getting to warp, so archer and the rest help "speed up the process" so that they can get assistance fixing their own ship. They then fly up and confront the "bad guys," which would preferably be the subulan (sp? right race?), since they've delt with them before. Now that would be an episode I'd want to watch. Look at the Ent-D saucer crash in GENERATIONS. Do you really think the NX-01 could survive a crash landing? Even if it could, would it even be possible for the ship to leave the surface again? I think it could be pulled off very effectively. Allow me to reiterate my previous comment: No. It's ridiculous that ships get blown to bits and none of the main actors buy it. I guess they could kill off at least one of two people whose names are in the credits but don't actually do anything to warrant it nor are needed on the ship - that'd make it somewhat less pointless. It would just be an action stunt and a lame excuse to suddently have a better ship, with new goodies to write into the story. This duck is lame. Somebody put it out of its misery. OTOH, I 'do' like the suggestion that, after the Expanse is destroyed, Soval is crowing about how Humans shouldn't have gone on such a mission and they've obviously all been lost taking a Vulcan with them, when Enterprise returns, battered but still operational. Guest Mike_Hines01 Posted February 5, 2004 If they're going to destroy the NX-01 it should be destroyed during the Earth/Romulan war, or in the last season of the show. As for the current season, I would like to see the Enterprise return home severely damaged after successfully stopping the Xindi. I have always kept in mind a line from "Trials and 'Tribble'ations" where the temporal investigations guys say that there have been 6 Enterprises. If the NX-01 is destroyed then if you were to remain absolutly true to the show, then the next ship couldn't be the Enterprise, and seeing as thats the name of the show, it would be kind of pointless. And it would seem really redundant to name say the NX-03 the Enterprise, just because Archer likes that name. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
