Since there are fans of the Beatles here, I thought I'd ask this question. What are your top 5 favorite Beatles songs? I prefer their later work, but I like their first stuff as well. My top 5 would be

1. "Revolution"(can't beat that guitar)

2. "Let It Be"

3. "Get Back"

4. "A Hard Day's Night"

5. "I Saw Here Standing There"

My favorite solo work they did was

John Lennon: "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)"

Paul McCartney: "Silly Love Songs"

George Harrison: "What is Life"

Ringo Starr: "The No No Song"

I just noticed that bullzeye.com just did a Deep Cuts feature on the Beatles.

Every so often, bullzeye.com does a Deep Cuts feature on some artist... praising great tracks that were never hits. They've done it for U2, the Rolling Stones, the Dave Matthews Band, and now they've done it for the Beatles. Some good choices on that list, a couple they really should have included. Anyhoo, that's at http://www.bullzeye.com

Disclaimer for the ladies, it's a guy-type site. Not pornographic (though they do feature women in little clothing), but pretty much like a guy's magazine online, without actually being a magazine.

George has been my favorite Beatle since a few weeks after I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show in '64. :dude:

I have nothing against Ringo - I've just never liked his singing, or the "wall of sound" music he's used since he went solo. :dude:

Interesting you should say "wall of sound" since it was George (and John, to some extent too, I believe) that had a lot of his solo recordings produced by Phil Spector. Are you also not a Phil Spector fan?

As for his singing, to each their own. I've always thought Ringo's voice had the most heart to it, and the most joie d'vivre (sp?). That's one reason I enjoy it as much as I do.

Ringo is also great to see in concert. I've seen him 6 times already. He realizes that he can't carry an entire show by himself so he always has his "All-Starr" band. Every member in the band is a star and has had hit songs. Hes had everybody from Joe Walsh to Nils Lofgrin in the band. They do a few Ringo songs and then they each get to do their own songs as well. Its a great time.

(slightly off topic :dude: )

That's part of the reason why I don't like Ringo's solo music - I'm really not a Phil Spector fan. :dude:

Ringo's songs with The Beatles were fun, but I keep hoping he'll release at least one single that's not so over-produced. I'd like to hear him in his "natural state" as a soloist.

Heresy! Phil Spector is a GENIUS! LOVE LOVE LOVE Phil Spector's work, from Curtis Lee to the Ronnettes, Righteous Brothers, Ramones, etc. But I don't believe Phil Spector actually produced anything for Ringo. I know he did quite a bit of work for George mostly, with songs like "You," and some for John, I think, but I don't believe he actually produced anything for Ringo.

My favorite Beatles song is whichever one I can't hear lol

That would be "For Martha" which is the supersonic track that is nothing but roughly 4 seconds of one of the Beatles (Paul, I think) blowing into a dog whistle. This track is heard (or not heard, so to speak) at the end of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band after "A Day In The Life" and before the inner groove, which is another fun story there. The "Martha" in question is Paul's dog, Martha.

Or I could just take that comment in the spirit intended and snidely, but jokingly, retort by calling you a heretic.

I don't hide the fact that I greatly dislike the Beatles, always have and always will. I grew up with 2 brothers that were huge fans, I've heard every Beatles song ever made but I don't like them. If I have an oldies station on and the very rare occasion happens that they play a Beatles song, it gets turned off within the first few notes.

I know, Kevin. You've never sugarcoated your distaste. I just thought it'd be amusing to kill your joke with some trivia.

Although, I find that even with the most awful, awful artists, there's usually at least ONE song by that artist that I can tolerate or even like. Except modern mainstream country artists. They irritate me to no end. I also thought at one point you said you don't mind the Sgt. Pepper and later stuff, since that wasn't as "Cotton Candy" as their earlier stuff.

Just make sure to add "For Martha" to your iTunes. lol

There are a few songs that I can 'tolerate', heck growing up in the 70's with no record player of my own and having to listen to my brothers play their Beatles albums (yes kids, that's before CD's lol) there'd have to be a few that I'd be able to tolerate. If forced to pick a Beatles song that I'd classify as my 'favorite' it'd probably be "Help".

Now keep in mind that when I describe having to listen to my brothers Beatles albums, I'm not just talking about listening to them forward. I had to listen to them backwards too! lol "Paul is dead now... Paul is dead now...." "Turn me on dead man... Turn me on dead man.... "
