Kor37 9 Posted July 24, 2006 Well, we are off to a good start on our vacation. The staples in my gut did not set off the metal detector. I had mixed feelings about that. On one hand, I was glad to avoid the hassle. On the other hand, it really makes me wonder about airport security. My friend's wife has a metal rod in her leg. That didn't set it off either. The flight went well. The first flight was from Baltimore to Dallas. The inflight movie was Fantastic Four which was really cool. Then we flew from Dallas to Tucson. I rented a van and we drove to Tombstone which is where I am now. We spent all day yesterday seeing the sights in Tombstone. We saw them recreate the gunfight at the OK Corral. Then we had lunch and watched another group recreate other gunfights that took place in Tombstone. Later, we lounged around the pool at the hotel for awhile. Then we went back to town and spent the night eating and drinking at the Crystal Palace saloon. Very cool place. I wanted to do the spirit walk but it didn't start until 11 PM and it goes for about 3 hours. I was just too tired at that point. Today, we will do a few more things in Tombstone and then we will drive up to the Tempe/Phoenix area. I'll do another report from there.
Kor37 9 Posted July 25, 2006 This morning we got up and had breakfast at the Longhorn restaurant in Tombstone. It was really good. The Longhorn is the oldest restaurant in Tombstone. After breakfast, we bought some T-shirts and stuff and headed north towards Phoenix. The women in our group mad us take a detour to some national park to see some cactus.... I can't tell you how unbelievably exciting it was.... After we finally got back on the road, we made another detour to Goldfield, Arizona. Goldfield is a reconstructed old west town. We let the kids and women look around while my friend and I headed straight to the bar.... After that was done, we finally got back on the road and arrived at our hotel at around 5 pm. We are staying at the Marriott hotle called "The Buttes". This hotel is built into the side of a mountain. Its really a fancy and beautiful place. After going into the pool for awhile, we drove into Phoenix and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. I was really surprised at how a big city like Phoenix has such a tiny Hard Rock. Its the smallest I've ever seen. I had ribs for dinner. Now we are back at the hotel relaxing. Tomorrow, we will see more of Phoenix. I'm also hoping to stop at some Medical place to have these staples removed from my gut. They are really bugging me. After we are done with Phoenix, we will be driving to Lake Havasu. I'm really looking forward to that. I'll do another report from there.
Vulcan_lover 1 Posted July 25, 2006 Sounds like your having fun, kor. I wish I could relate, but I've never been west of the Mississippi river, so have some fun for me. Enjoy those hot dry deserts.
Kor37 9 Posted July 27, 2006 2 days worth of activity. - I went to a medical place in Phoenix. The doctor said that my staples were not ready to be removed and I should have it looked at again in 3 days.........that really sucked. - We drove to Lake Havasu Monday. We got there a bit late. Just enough time to eat and get some sleep. Today, we got up early and rented some jet skis. That was a lot of fun! After that, we rented a pontoon boat and went out on the lake for about 4 hours. Awesome time! - After packing, we took off for Sedona. It was about a four hour ride. We got here about 9:00 pm. After finding a place to eat, we checked into our Lodge. Its a really nice place way up a mountain. Gorgeous scenery. Tomorrow, we will explore the red rocks of Sedona. I'll post another report after that.

Kor37 9 Posted July 28, 2006 Thank you all for the kind Birthday wishes! - Today we spent the whole day in Sedona, AZ. The scenery here with the red rocks is breathtaking. We drove down several trails and went up to that famous chapel that they built into the side of a mountain. Awesome view from there. - After we were done with Sedona, we drove to Williams,AZ which is where I am now. Tomorrow morning we will take an old fashioned steam engine train to the Grand Canyon. We will spend the night there and then take the train back. - The only problem is that I have to find some kind of medical facility up there to check my staples to see if they can finally come out. I'll report from there tomorrow.
Kor37 9 Posted July 31, 2006 Vacation update: - The train ride to the Grand Canyon was great. We did a lot of hiking at the South rim. - After taking the train back, we drove to Page,Arizona and rode a raft about 16 miles down the Colorodo river. That was really awesome. - Next we drove to Mt. Zion National Park and did some hiking. - After that, we drove to Las Vegas which is where we are now. We are staying at the Flamingo Hotel which is right on the Las Vegas Strip. It is now about 12:45 am. We just got back from having dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. The wives just left to do some gambling. Tomorrow, Eric and I will go to the Experience! Can't wait for that!

Have been to the Gand Canyon a couple times and have seen the steam train come in but have never riden it, nor have I done the rafting trips. Both sound awesome. Zion is a great park as is Bryce. I'm looking forward to seeing Vegas next month for the convention after last being in Vegas in 1975. Has it changed much? We are planning extra things to do now. Where I'll find the extra money is another problem! Enjoy the experience! Have a great vacation! You deserve it!
Kor37 9 Posted August 1, 2006 I'm looking forward to seeing Vegas next month for the convention after last being in Vegas in 1975. Has it changed much? If you haven't been to Vegas since 1975, you won't even recognize the place! Most of the old hotels are gone. A trolley driver today told me that they are going to tear down the Stardust soon. Thats one of the last of the old famous hotels. Anyway.........My son Eric and I went to the Experience today while my wife and the other family we are travelling with were lounging around the pool. Naturally, it was awesome. The new Borg ride is really cool. After the rides, Eric got his pic taken on the bridge and then we ate at Quarks. He had a turkey wrap and I ate jambalaya. I also drank a James Tea Kirk..lol. Tonight, we are going to walk the strip and watch the fountains at Bellagio and the pirate ships at Treasure Island. We are also going to eat dinner at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville.
Kor37 9 Posted August 3, 2006 Update from the last 2 days: - The first night we tried to see the Treasure Island show but couldn't because it got cancelled due to high winds. - Yesterday, everyone except my friend and myself went sightseeing for most of the day. I hung around the casino and gambled for a few hours. After everyone was back, we went to the pool for awhile. At the pool, my son Eric was bugging me to go to the Experience again so we left everyone at the pool and took a cab to the Experience and rode the rides again. Afterwards, we took the monorail to Harrahs and met up with everyone else just in time to see the show at Treasure Island. Afterwards, we saw the fountains at the Bellagio. Then we went back to our hotel and helped the family we were travelling with get their luggage down to the cab stand so they could catch their red eye flight back to Maryland. After saying our goodbyes, Eric and I got something to eat and went back in. I hung around and gambled a bit more. - This morning, we packed up and caught a cab to the airport. We caught our first plane which took us to San Jose, CA. The airport there is awful. We had to actually exit the airport and get on a bus just to get to the terminal where our next plane was at. Naturally, since we exited the airport, we had to go through security all over again. I've never seen an airport like that! So anyway, we barely got to the terminal to catch our plane to Portland,Oregon. We arrived and my sister picked us up. We loaded our stuff into her car and off we went to the seaside resort of Depoe Bay. We will stay here a few days before heading back home. This place is great. Our room overlooks a cliff that goes down to the ocean. The weather here is cold. Its only about 65 degrees here but it feels great. Tonight, after dinner, we are going to build a fire in the sand and make smores.
Kor37 9 Posted August 4, 2006 - Great day today. Pretty chilly though. Only about 59 degrees (I don't think it EVER gets hot in Oregon). We went on a whale watching boat today and saw some grey whales. It was pretty neat although the water was very rough and it was cold. Later, we went to some place where a lot of seals and sea lions hang out on a a huge rock in the ocean. We had dinner and now we are back at the room, sitting on the balcony watching the ocean and drinking wine.
Kor37 9 Posted August 4, 2006 Today we slept in a bit late. Then we had some breakfast and then hit the road for the 2 1/2 hour drive to my sister's house. We are just going to hang around and relax today because we have to get up really early to catch our flight back home. Our plane leaves at 6 am. We make a stop in Dallas and then its a straight shot home to Baltimore. Its been a great vacation and I dread the mountain of work that has been piling up at home waiting for me. Kor37 9 Posted August 6, 2006 We got back in town about 7 PM last night. Since then I've been trying to go through the mountain of work on my desk. Man........I need a vacation............
Kor37 9 Posted August 8, 2006 I needed to take a break from all of this paperwork so Eric and I went to see "Superman Returns". I thought the movie was good but not really great. I'm not really surprised that its already gone from many movie theaters. Kevin Spacey was a pretty good Lex Luthor and that new guy that plays Superman really resembles Christopher Reeve. Kor37 9 Posted August 22, 2006 Sooo.......whats been happening? - My wound from having my appendix out seems pretty much healed except for this big nasty scar.. - I pulled a muscle in my back yesterday. Now I can hardly walk..... - My son Eric has decided to change majors in college. He will no longer be majoring in Forrestry. He is switching over to Earth Sciences. He wants to become a Geologist now. Of course this means that he won't receive all of the Forrestry scholorship money he won last year..... I think he made a good choice though. Forrestry seems a bit limited. Geologists are in demand. - Work seems stable at the moment. Of course this won't last......... - For those of you who have been following the saga of my former driver, Bill, he is fully recovered from being stabbed. As soon as he gets some transportation, I may hire him back. Thats about it for now.
Kor37 9 Posted August 29, 2006 Nothing much happening lately. - We went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this past weekend. Its pretty cool if you are into Medieval stuff. There are a lot of shows. We watched some jousting and played some Medieval games like ax throwing, knife throwing and archery. They even had an elephant there that you could ride on. They have this festival every year. Its way out in the country and its open every weekend til mid September. - Eric goes back to school next week so we've been busy shipping all of his stuff back to Maine. He flys up on Saturday and school starts on Monday. He's taking 20 credits this year which I think is a bit much but he insists he can handle it so we'll see..... - I missed the Shatner roast on TV so I watched clips of it on YouTube. I think I saw all of the roasters except for Nichelle Nichols who I heard didn't even get aired. She must have been pretty bad! I thought the roast was ok but not as funny as I was led to believe. The jokes were more gross than funny in my opinion.

Kor37 9 Posted September 4, 2006 - My wife and son flew to Maine last Friday to get Eric's dorm room ready. Pretty uneventful weekend with just me all alone in the house. - I just got back from picking up my wife at the airport. While I was waiting for her, I checked out the magazine stands there. I was looking for the new Trek mag but they didn't have it. I was sure they would cause they seem to have just about every magazine published. Oh well, unless I make a special trip to the mall, I guess I'll miss out. I refuse to subscribe based on my bad experience with the Communicator.
Kor37 9 Posted September 11, 2006 - Work has been hectic lately. Someone is always either on vacation or in the hospital. - I've been considering buying out one of my competitors. He seems to be willing to sell. This would almost double the size of my company. Gotta give it some more thought though. - So far, Eric has been doing well in College. He hasn't stressed out yet. I really hope he is able to finish this semester without having to drop a course. I still think he's taking on too much , though.
Kor37 9 Posted October 2, 2006 I've been concentrating a lot on work lately. I've had some preliminary meetings regarding my takeover of one of my competitors but I don't want to move too quickly. Another reason I've been working so much is to keep my mind off of being depressed. Its nothing to do with my family or anything, just the state of the world today. The school shooting the other day and the horrific one in the Amish school today really makes me wonder about this world. About a month ago, I decided to start going back to church to try and find some comfort there. I was one of those guys that went to church just on Easter and Christmas. I'm now trying to go every week. This past weekend, during the communion service, I heard a lady shout out in the back of the church and there seemed to be some commotion. I found out that some lowlife had entered the church and tried to steal her purse!!! Some of the ushers grabbed him and called the police. So I can't even find any solace in church. I'm hoping I can shake it off. I hate being depressed. On the bright side, I went to the Raven's game yesterday and watched them win their 4th straight game. All you football fans out there that are ignoring the Ravens......watch out! They are for real this year!
MrPsychic 1 Posted October 3, 2006 (I'm trying to misspell a badword but can't)en Ravens....Why do they have to win? I want all teams in the AFC North to lose except the Steelers.
Angela 1 Posted October 3, 2006 I feel for you Kor, the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket these days (how old do i sound eh.) All I can hope is my own generation starts waking up that our society is bad and raises their kids with good values. I hope you feel a little more up hun!
