Translation Game!

Translation Game!

This game is pretty self explanatory:

You are to write a sentence in Klingon

Then someone will try to translate it to English

The person who originally wrote that Klingon sentence will then say if he or she got it correct or not. If he or she did, then that person will write a new sentence in Klingon . . . . .

Now because we are moving on to lesson 2 please keep all vocab from lesson 1 & 2

If you would like to participate, then I would recommend that you read Lesson 1 (http://www.kli.org/pdf/KPC-01.pdf)

--

TNGtrekker220,

Remember that the sentence structure in Klingon is not like ours.

In English we say (I’ll use the example in Lesson 1)

“I see the officer”

(Subject-Verb-Object)

In Klingon it is written in

“The officer sees I”

(Object-Verb-Subject)

Also don’t forget how the verb forms

(And it is not “Earth” it is “Earther” or “human”)

tlhIngan Hol ghoj tera’ngan

Let’s go word by word

Klingon Language (tlhIngan Hol)

Learn (ghoj)

Human (tera’ngan)

Because it is in Object-Verb-Subject

It translates to The human learns Klingon

Does it make sence TNGtrekker220?

[i guess I'll give out the next one also]

choQaH jatlh tlhIngan Hol

[EDIT:

Oh just a second I’m not sure if this one will be correct because we have two verbs in a row. (I’ll just assume it is like Spanish where we don’t have to worry about the second verb)]

I think i get it.... and also, is there a klingon word for "I"? when I translated it, I just put in I, but that was just so it would make sense. Is this 'I" implied, and if so, how do you know, and if not, whats the word for it?

(That might be wrong, I'm not quite clear on the prefix part, it could be tera' jIyIn.)

tera' qayIn

(That might be wrong, I'm not quite clear on the prefix part, it could be tera' jIyIn.)

I belive the correct one must be:

tera' jIyIn

That reads:

I live (on?) earth

tera' - earth

jI - I __

yIn - live (or life)

Here's one:

vulqanganpu jISuch

is it " I visit the vulcan" ?

ok, next one: juH jIyIn

is that right?

sorry, its kind of a stupid sentence, but given the words I have and the fact that I'm half asleep right now, its the best I could come up with.

Don’t worry if your sentences sound very simple or elementary. We are just staring so I think it is to be expected that when we first start all we can really write are very simple sentences

juH jIyIn

juH = home

jIyIn

jI = I

yIn = life / live

Well that to me does not make sense.

First off (just a side note):

In tlhIngan Hol we have no articles (the, a, an)

For “on” it usually just indicates position and because of that there is probably a word for it. (Well there is a good chance that there is not . . . I guess we will find out in the future) And "at" probably falls under the same lines...

nav jIghItlh

Well again it comes down to “on”. There might not be a word for it, but until we know for sure let’s not assume that there is none. If there in fact is a word for “on” and we continue to use it like there is none, then it will be more difficult in getting use to it. (In the sense that not using “on” will become a habit)

I write (on?) paper

I was trying to say "I write "on" papers, but because there is no word for "on"(that we know of at least) that works too.
