I have been interested in NASA since I was a kid. My uncle once worked at the space center in Houston. I still have the photos that he sent me of the early Gemini space flights, of the Agena docking module that failed to open - It looked sort of like an alligator in orbit! - and of the original astronaut corps. This avatar also is a salute to the crews that flew the shuttle missions, and it is my sincerest hope that the flights will continue again soon. The tragic losses of Challenger and Columbia will not be forgotten, but shouldn't stop us from continuing the manned exploration of space. I believe that steps are already in motion to launch a manned mission to Mars. That is exciting! :)

My current one is a picture of the clouds moving in that were a part of the leading edge of Hurricane Frances. I took the picture on my way home from work.

 

I may change mine again, I have not decided.

The parrot head is part of a mascot suit from a place I used to work. They were throwing it out, so I rescued it and had it for many years!

 

The guy wearig it in that pic was some drunken friend of an ex-roommate.

 

I'm hoping to come up with a cooler avatar one of these days!
