Things that irritate you....

Recommended Posts

What minor things irritate you in the Trek Universe? Mine is where a ship visits a world which is quite ignorant of space etc yet calls itself Sigma 4 or Arcta 6. Why would you put a number after your planet if you thought that was the whole universe?

People who use other people just for their own gains. :waaaa:

Preach it brother :waaaa:

I hate those two so much :waaaa:, everytime I see them on the TV I start throwing things at it. Sometimes I even feel like scratching my own eyes out and cutting my ears off so I don't have to see or hear them.

My answer is Wynn and Wesley Crusher. I never liked Wynn and have always wished they had written her out of the script after Episode 20 of season 1. Wesley just started getting on my nerves little by little. What pushed it over the top for me was his last episode where he actually goes against Starfleet and at one point endangers Worf's life and some of the other's from the Enterprise.

As to the point about everyone speaking fluent english, that's actually explained in a few different ways through out a few of the series. They aren't actually speaking english, they are speaking in their native tongue but the universal translator is translating what they say so we hear english or french or whatever language we speak (in the Trek Universe). One example is in DS9 when Quark, Nog and Rom are thrown back in time to 1948 and become the "Roswell Aliens". Their UT's aren't working until Rom sticks a pin in Nog's ear to reset it.

Another example is Enterprises "Dawn" where Trip can't speak with the Alien that he's stranded with. And the last example I'll mention is in the movie ST VI when Uhura, Scotty and Chekov have to communicate with a Klingon check point. They explain that they have to actually speak Klingon to them because the UT will be recognized and their cover would be blown.

Mike, if you cut your ears off the holes would still be there :( Unless you stuff what you cut off into the holes, yea, that'd work. :waaaa::hug:

In TWOK radiation is present in that thingy Spock reaches into to manually fix the 'lines' and the radiation kills him. That establishes the fact radiation is present somewhere in the engines of that class starship of the future.

Then in TVH Spock acts like radiation is no longer present in the future with the statement about our "dubious flirtation with nuclear energy in the past" (<or something like that) and further claims the radiation (collected from a nuclear vessels reactor) could be used to "recrystlize the dilithum" of the Klingon warbird.

So which is it? Did I miss something, different kinds of radiation perhaps? :waaaa:

Yea, U forgot to add that bit. I was distracted with the thought of just seeing those two again. I have nightmares of them appearing out of no where. :P

And another thing; in an OS episode Spock tells someone (McCoy I think) that the planet Vulcan has no Moon yet later in TMP there it is in the sky big as life: Vulcans Moon. :waaaa:

Them bringing up a previous ship and (aside from a few SLIGHT changes to the hull) refer to the ship as "yet another alien ship" or such, that and people just leaving weapons with their foes ESPECIALLY when they need those weapons :waaaa:.

Side note, this is my 501st post!!!

There are different forms of radiation. It depends on the source on where the radiation originates. It can come from the sun to Uranium. The forms are, according to FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT, called alpha radiation, beta particles and gamma rays.

Alpha radiation consists of particles with a positive electric charge. They readily collide with and are stopped by the atoms and molecules in the matter they encounter. These alpha particles can be stopped by the first layer of skin, a few inches of air or a sheet of paper.

Beta radiation consists of particles with a negative electric charge. Because they are slightly faster and smaller, beta particles can travel a little farther than alpha particles. However, wood or a thin sheet of metal can block these particles.

Gamma radiation is an electromagnetic ray similar to, but stronger than, X-rays. Gamma radiation can easily pass through the human body, but can be stopped by lead several inches thick or concrete several feet thick.

Here is "The American Heritage® Reference Collection" definition on radiation,

1. The act or process of radiating: the radiation of heat and light from a fire. 2. Physics a. Emission and propagation and emission of energy in the form of rays or waves. b. Energy radiated or transmitted as rays, waves, in the form of particles. c. A stream of particles or electromagnetic waves emitted by the atoms and molecules of a radioactive substance as a result of nuclear decay. 3a. The act of exposing or the condition of being exposed to such energy. b. The application of such energy, as in medical treatment. 4. Anatomy Radial arrangement of parts, as of a group of nerve fibers connecting different areas of the brain. 5a. The spread of a group of organisms into new habitats. b. Adaptive radiation.

I have a feeling that Spock was referring that we still don't know how dispose or recycle without make population getting radiation sickness or polluting the land. AE, I hope this is helpful to you.

Neelix -n- Kes ... that was a total annoying gross-out for me. He was much less bothersome after Kes left.

Kai Wynn. What a witch!

I'll generally put up with just about everything else in the Trek world.

Sorry, I thought of something else!

I always find myself looking at some of these alien races they encounter and wonder how these weirdos ever got it together enough to achieve space travel! Remember those dudes in the goo that Pulaski was tending to during the second season? And those guys that had to everything just so for their negotiations with Sarak (third season)? Kinda dumb to me.

Also, why is everything depicted so pastorally in the future? Why are all the women wearing dresses everywhere they go? Where is the television? Newspapers? Radio? I find it hard to believe that the 24th century would be getting its news less efficiently than we do today. Seems like with all the technology we see in the 24th century, people's lives would be a lot more convenient than they are depicted. Everyone seems to be "roughing it" if they are not living aboard a starship.

I only have one thing and that is Wesley Crusher. He just totally irritates me with his know it all, show off ways. if I had been Picard I would have had him escorted off the bridge and said "now stay out". If that had not worked it would have been straight out of the nearest airlock for him. Harsh? Yes, but in the end a good result.

Well, it kind of confuses me when a new planet automatically speaks english. No contact from anyone yet they speak fluently.

There is the Universal Translator... Also, if you check Basics Part I & II (VOY), the crew doesn't have their com-badges, which have a universal translator, and no one can understand each other...
