Jeanway 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Are Starships going to go any faster? When might this be possible given Startrek canon?
WEAREBORG4102 0 Posted April 18, 2004 Yes only in a transwarp speeds and quantum slipstream
Jeanway 0 Posted April 18, 2004 (edited) Yes only in a transwarp speeds and quantum slipstream SLIPSTREAM, HUH? You know alot about this? Tell me what you know, right now. Edited April 18, 2004 by Jeanway
scaleman 0 Posted April 19, 2004 I think the next "revolution" in transportation will be quantum slipstream, but not after the federation takes another crack at "fixing" the currently used warp scale et cetera. Which could hold back slipstream travel for, oh, till at least the mid-25th century.
headborg 1 Posted April 20, 2004 transwarp conduits...warp ten will still have to be the top possible speed..unless B&B deside to throw out ST canon and do something new..dis-regarding the DELTA Flyer epsode of Voyager.
Jeanway 0 Posted April 20, 2004 Hmmmmm, VEGA has some pretty interesting technology
Q stole my bike 0 Posted April 20, 2004 *geeky engineer mode on* Warp 10 (in the Trek universe) is like this big paradox, it has an infinite value, and therefore cannot be reached. You could compare it to a similar paradox in the real world: it's impossible for matter (in the real universe, not the Trek one) to go at the speed of light becasue when you approach the speed of light your mass increases, then as mass increases it takes even more energy to accelerate it, and once it's accelerated the mass increases again and so on and so forth, and by the time the speed of light is reached the matter becomes infinately massive. *geeky engineer mode off*
Xeroc 0 Posted April 22, 2004 Warp 10 = infinite speed Therefore, both quantum slipstream and transwarp are NOT faster than warp ten as they do not travel faster than infinte speed. They are both methods of travel that require a signifigantly less amount of energy to travel at higher speed rather than just plain warp. Faster than infinte? You'd have to time travel - arriving before you left. Also, that VOY episode where they went warp 10 was bull crap. Honestly, that episode went against all sorts of the laws of physics, not to mention practically all other ST canon and the entire section on warp speed travel in the ST Techincal Manual.
