James Bond is awesome! Great action movies! :D

Can't decide on a favorite, however.

Did you know that they got "Q" from James Bond!?!?

He was? So they thought that Quartermaster Major Boothrooyd's rank (Q) was cool for a Star Trek villain/confidante name? That's cool. I hope Desmond Llewelyn was happy about that. He is the greatest.

(For those of you who don't know Bond, Desmond Llewelyn is that actor who played Q in 16 of the 20 James Bond films to date, and Major Boothroyd is the character's full name. Also the rank Q in Bond is just a shortened form of Quartermaster, someone who supplies arms.)

:D

According to Gene Rodenberry Q was named for friend and fan Janet Quarton of England. but it could be mix of both i'm just going by my sources.

My post was refering to the James Bond Q. I'm assuming your post is about the Star Trek Q. Hope I didn't mess anyone up.

I love James Bond. I'm in the process of trying to collect my favorite movies right now.

Questions for Bond fans: Who's your favorite Bond actor? What's your favorite Bond movie?

Mine would be Connery, and OHMSS.

I like James Bond..Always alot of action, but I do agree it is getting kind of old and repetative.

He's ok but to be honest he is getting kind of old. :)

I sort of agree. The main problem, IMO, is that since Brosnan took over the movies have really been mishandled. For one thing, they're still essentially dumb movies, and yet the new ones have an aura of taking themselves too seriously. The older Bond movies had a sort of cheeky feel to them, whereas the new ones seem to be victims of the hype that surrounds them.

Another problem is the political nonsense that has been inserted into these movies, and the messages that they supposedly take to heart in certain key characters like M and Moneypenny. ( B) I guess the writers, etc forgot that Moneypenny was always after Bond, and that he mainly just flirted with her, not that he was harrasing her). At the same time, they want to keep Bond as the sexist pig, so they just make sure to have the Bond girls remind him that this is the 90s (or zeros now?) and his behavior is out of place. That is, when they're not rolling around in the sack like all the Bond girls who weren't as "intelligent".

Brosnan is okay as Bond, and I did like Tomorrow Never Dies, but overall I think he's been wasted on silly scripts. A lot of the problem was this idea that since the Cold War was over there wouldn't be the same sort of problems to deal with, so the new era of villians would be people like the evil Ted Turner. I hope they pick up on world events as they appear now, in a new script. There's a lot of good ideas that could be drawn from the world as it is today.

Sorry for the rant. I've been disgusted with Bond movies somewhat since Goldeneye. Well, Licence to Kill was a stinker too, and I really liked Dalton as Bond in the Living Daylights, but the face of Bond movies wasn't completely changed as they were once Brosnan took over and Bond was given the PC makeover.

I remember when I was about 9 or 10 years old my mom and dad took me to the drive-in movie theater to see Thunderball and Goldfinger in a doubleheader. I had never seen James Bond and still to this day I think about the underwater scenes in Thunderball. They were kind of scary to a little kid but I loved Bond! Still do to this day almost 40 years later! I have all the movies on DVD and my wife and I work our way through the entire series at least once a year and watch our most favorites ones a little more frequently. Each actor who has played Bond over the years has contributed in their own unique way and style. My favorite is Brosnan but I also thought Dalton was great as Bond and was more in keeping with the James Bond of Ian Flemings books, which is darkere and colder.

I also have all the books in my collection. For those of you who would like a new James Bond experience but are tired of the movies read the books. There have been four authors who have contributed to the James Bond book series. Here is a site that has pretty accurate ratings on each book and a review if you want to know what books might be the best to read.Bond Books

sadly, yes. he passed away right after the release of 'the world is not enough'. that was his 17th bond film to date. B)

i couldnt disagree with you anymore. pierce brosnan has really revived the series. all his movies, on closer inspection, are excellently written, with the exception of 'tomorrow never dies' and 'die another day', both of which i still quite enjoyed. i also love 'lisence to kill'. that is a terrific movie. dalton helped bring the series back to the way it used to be by actually taking itself seriously. in the ROGER MOORE days, the movies were quite stupid, with the exception of only a few. the only three moore bonds i have ever fully enjoyed are 'live and let die', 'the spy who loved me' and, 'the man with the golden gun'. the rest of the moore movies have too much slapstick, pathetic humour, and they try to go for the 'every scene should create laughter' technique. yuck. NOW THE BEST MOVIES ARE THE CONNERY MOVIES, with the exception of 'thunderball' and (ugh) 'diamonds are forever'. but, back to brosnan. 'goldeneye' was amazing. it really took good use of the cold war ending. also even though i did not like it at first, 'the world is not enough' was quite good. it had alot better writing some of the earlier bond flicks. die another day was great for the first half, and okay for the second half. the second half was much too unrealistic for my taste.

anyways, heres my point:

brosnan is a good james bond. he has done a great job. bring on brosnan's 5th movie.

CONNERY ROCKS, LAZENBY IS GOOD, ROGER MOORE SUCKS, TIMOTHY DALTON ROCKS, AND PEIRCE BROSNAN IS GOOD.

whew. now thanks for letting me go on and on and on.

uh, no. connery IS great, and as bond was great, moore, was also really good, but not connery, dalton couldnt STINK anymore if he wanted too. when they said dalton wasnt doing it anymore i said thank god, then i said to myself, and brother in law, "you know who would be a good bond, peirce brosnan" low and behold when they announced the next bond it was him, and i havent been disapointed since. i didnt like any of the dalton ones. as far as not realistic, ITS BOND, AND ITS A MOVIE. its for fun, and i take it as such. its good action, and keeps me entertained when i watch.

now, who here has seen "casino royale" that was a funny bond spoof type movie, back in the 60's. as far as Q, it was sad to hear he died, in the one movie where he had a broken legg, he really did break it skiing, but he wanted to be in the movie, john clease was a good replacement, but he can never fill the old Q's shoes. just as i hope they keep making trek movies, i hope they keep on making bond flicks.

LONG LIVE TREK, LONG LIVE BOND.

i used to hate timothy dalton too. i thought he was terrible, but since i am a huge bond fan i watch them quite a bit and dalton has really grown on me. i like roger moore its just that he was too, shall we say, silly. there are too many slapstick jokes in moores movies. the only two movies of moores that were even remotely serious were 'the spy who loved me' and 'for your eyes only'. i like 'live and let die' but even the killing of the villain is very slapstick in that one.

Bond: "what happened to your leg, Q? skiing?

Q: "hunting!"

i was so sad when Desmond Llewelyn died and he can never be replaced as Q, but John Cleese is a great pick for Q. i was so happy when, in Die Another Day, Q (John Cleese) says: "As my predecesor once said 'i never joke about my work, 007' ". Desmond Llewelyn had said that in Goldfinger and it was a great tribute to him. i will never forget Desmond.

I used to enjoy Bond more when I was younger and could actually lose myself in believing half of what he did was real.I must admit..

Click for Spoiler:

In die another day, when he was captured and actually really stuck for a bit, it was really cool to see.

I'll always go see Bond Flics in the Theatres. They rock..no matter who plays Bond. And hey there are copming out with halle berries character in a flick soon :andorian: !

grooooaaannnn. i would be excited for this if they had used a better character to make a movie about, maybe felix leiter (even though hes missing a leg from the shark attack in license to kill) but i hated jinx. she was so annoying in that movie. it might be because she almost upstaged bond, but i really dislike halle berry. especially in a bond film. no more jinx please. lol.

man, i TOTALLY agree. yowzaa is right. lol.

and i hope you didnt think i was attacking your opinion, because i believe in free speech. i was just saying my opinion as well. i respect your opinion, even though mine differs. sorry if i made you think i was being confrontational.

anyways, i did like that scene! in my opinion it was way better cinematically and in other ways (ahem  ) than the one in dr. no. i think ursula andress is unattractive and halle berry is VERY attractive. lol. so i guess she did add a bit to the franchise.

The older SEAN CONNERY James Bonds are better than these and also GEORGE LAZENBY's 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service.' The only exception is 'Diamonds Are Forever'. That movie is garbage. But the Bond movies now with BROSNAN are better than all the ROGER MOORE movies. 'Goldeneye' is an amazing movie. Also, the TIMOTHY DALTON movies 'The Living Daylights' and 'License to Kill' are quite good as well and I enjoy them more then the MOORE Bond films. But, yes, CONNERY is the best and 'Goldfinger' is my favorite.
