  1. The relase date has been pushed back due to concerns of bandwidth. If anyone can be of assistance in providing or finding mirror sites from which the episode could be downloaded, please email fanrelations@yearmission.com.

Here is the direct quote from our "News" page:

    A House of cards . . .

-Posted by Jack Marshall @ December 20th 2003 4PM EST

We just finished watching the completed episode - It's amazing that after seeing this footage day in and day out for several months that I can still detach myself from the episode and enjoy it as a fan. I hope that once we're ready to release the show, you'll have as much fun with it as we have.

At this time, we've decided to push the release date back 2 weeks to January 17th, 2004. We're going to use the extra time to locate more server space - as it is now, only a few hundred people would be able to download the episode during the first week. Considering we're getting over ten thousand web hits a day, we feel that to be fair, we need to increase our bandwidth extensively. While we search for options, if there is anyone out there who could mirror the episode for us, please contact fanrelations@5yearmission.com.

I know that this will come as a disappointment to everyone who has been waiting so patiently, but I assure you, when the time comes, you'll see that after 35 years (and three more weeks) STAR TREK HAS RETURNED!!

So as not to completely ruin your holidays, there will be SOMETHING new and special released on the 27th in the multimedia section. Additionally, we are working on a "soundtrack" for the episode. This will not be the songs themselves, but a list of the music used, in the correct order as cued in the show. Finally, we'll be announcing details of the DVD Special Edition of the episode after the first of the year and how you can obtain a copy.

Have a great Holiday season - spend it with those you love - I know I am

  2. I'm curious to see how the new up-coming OS season sets on DVD will look, if the transfer is good looking enough without extra work then fine. If it looks crappy then they should do something to clean em up before releasing. (I'm sure they know to do it if necessary.) Off topic but I also want a special edition version on DVD with all new tricked out effects, the works. ;)

I've heard from a pretty good sourse that the new TOS DVD sets WILL have NEW SFX.

  3. The trailer we saw on the 27 inch TV is the one currently available on the website only in a much larger resolution.

The teaser was a present to the cast and crew so they could get an idea of how things were shaping up for the full episode.

The teaser you will have to wait for... But, it's going to be worth the wait!

  4. Well, filming officially wrapped Sunday night! It was another incredible weekend with some of the most fun and talented people I've ever met!

We got to see the trailer (and teaser to the episode) on a 27 inch TV... FREAKING INCREDIBLE!

My personal thanks to :( James, :( Jack, Pearl, Jerry  (finally got to meet you!) and the entire cast, crew, "secret assistants" ... anyone who has been involved in helping this come to life.

Fair warning: :( While watching the teaser one of the cast (I won't mention names) was heard to whimper, "I'm going to need new pants...." You may want to have a spare pair handy in case you have a similar reaction. :(

To the masses out there who are waiting with baited breath, I honestly believe you are going to be very pleased.

To any nay-sayers.... Well, lets just hope they give it a chance and I'm willing to bet we see some changes in opinions.

    Mark your calendars! December 27, 2003 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . WE ALL GET TO SEE THE FIRST EPISODE OF NEW VOYAGES!!! :dude:

  5. Just a quick note on the status of New Voyages, a quote from the web site and our director:

"With about 6 weeks until the release of the pilot episode, work continues at a furious pace around the "studio".  This week, some of the cast and crew will be in and around the Los Angeles area, filming scenes for our SECOND EPISODE

You read that right - we ARE beginning principle photography on the second episode on November 1st, at historic Vasquez Rocks -  where many episodes of The Original Series were filmed.

For now, we're keeping the details under tight guard, but were sure to have some great photos to share within the next 2 weeks."

 Can't wait! "Vasquez Rocks" That is so cool! I'm speechlees...

To all of you out there being so nice, here's a little snippet of the next project... Well, not actually of the episode, but of our "Kirk" at Vasquez rocks during filming of the next eppisode.

Lots of exciting things happened inthe past few weeks while the crew was in LA... Just wait until we/I can tell you... You're gonna flip!

  6. Finally have a rough draft up and ready for your review. The site includes a short version of how I got to be on DS9, the complete story written for the International Federation of Trekkers (IFT) newsletter way back when and lots of pictures from both the appearance on Leeza and in the ST:DS9 episode titled, "The Darkness and the Light"

    Jim on ST:DS9

Working on digitizing the video from Leeza show and behind the scenes footage her crew shot. Any suggestions are more than welcome!

  7. Quick update on New Voyages...

The past two days found cast and crew filming scenes for the next episode near LA. Locations included Vasquez Rocks and the entrance to the "Bat Cave" from the 60's Batman TV series. (Hey, we're not just Trek fans... and I'm jealous as hell that I couldn't be there to play!!!)

Today some new surprise guest stars are lending their talents to the project, but I don't have the authority to tell you exactly who ... But, trust me, you're gonna love it!!!...

  8. A few quotes for you to contemplate:

"It is entirely fitting that gays and lesbians 'will appear unobtrusively aboard the Enterprise - neither objects of pity nor melodramatic attention.'" Leonard Nimoy, letter to the Los Angeles Times, November 6, 1991

"It would be very appropriate if the upcoming Next Generation movies made it their business to have gay characters." Patrick Stewart, to The Advocate, August 22, 1995

"I've approached [berman] many, many times over the years about getting a gay character on the show--one whom we could really love, not just a guest star. Y'know, we had blacks, Asians, we even had a handicapped character-- and so I thought, this is now beginning to look a bit absurd. And he said, 'In due time.' And so, I'm suspecting that on Enterprise they will do something to this effect. I couldn't get it done on mine. And I am sorry for that." Kate Mulgrew, to Out in America, August 2002

"I was surprised at the question, because I had just assumed that over the course of the years that it had been addressed. I was surprised it was even an issue. (..) I haven't heard anything coming down the pipeline, but I would be in favor of it. I would hope it would be handled in a great way. It would be wonderful, in my opinion, if it was not such a huge issue, but was just there." Scott Bakula, to Metrosource, January 2002

"I'm sorry I never had a homosexual relationship, because I know there must be many joys and pleasures and degrees of closeness in those relationships." Gene Roddenberry, in Gene Roddenberry; The Last Conversation (by Yvonne Fern, 1994)

  9. Just a quick note on the status of New Voyages, a quote from the web site and our director:

  10. Even though the novels are not considered "cannon", I'm thinking maybe the next movie should be based on the Star Trek:New Frontier series written by Peter David. He's created another ensemble cast that (other than Shelby) would be NEW faces on the big screen for all - Trekkers and non-Trekkers alike.

This might be a method of pulling in more of the Sci-Fi fans who are reluctant to even look at Trek because of it's popularity or some other "peer" pressure. (Hope that comes across the way I meant it to...)

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see a DS9 movie/mini-series with all the characters brought back! I haven't read any of the novels since the end of the series on TV, but am wondering just how well Quark took his brother becoming the Grand Nagus?....

  11. ... Speaking of which, have you gotten in contact with The Starship Exeter people?  You guys probably could pool your resources and create a wide variety of episodes?  Also it's nice to see you guys using actual sets.  The entire acting in front of a green screen gets kind of old (ala Hidden Frontier...but I still admire their exterior ship shots and their hard work.)  Good luck to you guys ...

Earlier this year the Exeter crew was invited to tour the set and even filmed some footage while here. On their home page there is a picture on the right from that visit and on the "Screen Test" page of their Exeter Studios site are more from that visit. (My two roomies are in one of these.) Unfortunatley, the visit did not end up in a partnership. (Sorry, no further details...)

I personally enjoy all the fan films I've encountered. The Exeter people spent several years making thier film and they deserve kudos for thier work! :klingon: I look forward to seeing their future works.

I TOTALLY enjoy the Hidden Frontier episodes! Talk about creativity! Good stories, good actors, awesome FX and getting the green screens to work so well.... AND finding a crew that has works so well together for so long  ... (Lucky devils!) Can't thank those guys & gals enough for adding to my Trek enjoyment!!!

I am one very lucky guy who just happens to be involved with one of the many fan creations out there. I can't wait to see what else others come up with in the future!

  12. ....also one small criticism, Kirk's hair looks like Elvis.  I don't know if that's the look you're going for, but I can't help but think "Bubba Trek."

(If that last joke made no sense to some go to http://www.bubbahotep.com and find out what I'm talking about.)

Great eye! Being that our "Kirk" is a professional Elvis impersonator and was working for Six Flags when we started filming it would have been next to impossible to eliminate the Elvis twist on the hair style.

That's James Cawley playing Kirk and all the sets, uniforms, costumes, props,... are of his creation. We can all thank James and his talent as Elvis for providing the $'s to buy, built and create the sets, costumes, props, uniforms, ...

  13. Thank you all so much for your comments. Unfortunatley I am no going to be able to join a few of our crew when they head for LA next week. They will be getting some pickup shots for the first episode and filming shots for the second.

So, yes, at this point we're gonna "squeeze out" a few episodes at least!

  14. Morn is/was an awesome character... One of my favorite scenes is when Dennis Madalone (Stunt Coordinator for DS9) had to play the part. Morn is sitting at the bar and Dennis does a little improvisation that ends up in the aired episode. Dennis/Morn looks at his apparently empty glass, tips the glass, puts his finger into the glass to get the last drops of the drink!

After my one day as an extra, I was truely amazed as just how much detail is put into every episode that sometimes gets lost in the backgroud...

Here's a shot from the Paramount lot of Morn and two very lucky fans (one of which is me!) from that day that I will never forget. (See my other post for more info...)

  15. Back in 1996 something amazing happened to me thanks to my fellow Trek fan and USS Tahawus crewmember, Cynthia Merrick. To tell the full story here would take too much room. Years ago I had a website that explained the entire event loaded with pictures but it has since evaporated into the cyber world. I am currently in the process of rebuilding a site to tell the full tale and will keep anyone interested posted on it's progress.

To get an idea of how I landed my spot as an extra on ds9, check out the following link to a page on geocities: http://www.geocities.com/jorel_69/leeza_01.html.

Here's a shot of the one who instigated the event and myself at the dabo table in Quark's.

As I start to rebuild this site, it's bringing back some fantastic memories of the most incredible experience in my life...

  16. Is this console the one used for the Project ST: Season 4? If so, isn't it still needed for future episodes or has the project been shelved?

This is an early prototype helm console, and not the one used in our project. However it is a nice piece, and needs only some very minor corrections/cosmetic work.
