  1. :borg2:

Reminds me of an argument I had with my brother david when we went to see "Purple Rain" back in '85 (or was it '84?). He liked Morris Day, I liked prince.

I still like Princes early recordings. I also liked Wendy & Lisa, which was why I got ticked when he dumped the Revolution. But, I lost interest around the time he was having the fight to get out of his contract with (was it Sony?) and started calling himself by that symbol, rather than his name.

Even though I saw him on BET the other day (A new video) and it sounded good.

  2. Morris Day is a one trick poney. His music all sounds the same.

Whereas a lot of Prince's early music was revolutionary. No one else has really combined rock, R&B, and Funk the way he has over the years.

When I was a young kid I was a big prince mark. Owned all the casettes, had books, posters, etc. But I got really mad when he dumped the Revolution and my interest in his music began to slowly fade from there. Now-a-days, I don't really even pay attention to him anymore. Of course, my musical preferences have changed a lot in the past 20-years.

  3. If there nothing that I can stop the event from happening than I am not going to worry about it. I am just going to live my life one day at a time.

    That's my attitude as well.

I used to get all worked up whenever news of a "near miss" with an asteroid or something was mentioned, or predictions like that came up on t.v. But it's just dumb to worry yourself over things you have absolutely no control over. Which is why I hope, if Earth is ever days or weeks away from an extinction-level collision with something, or overdue for a super volcano, I'd rather the media didn't mention it. I don't want to spend my last hours alive in a panic.

  4. That's too bad.

My hometown was in imminent danger of loosing it's zoo a few years ago (despite the flamboyant spending of some on the city council, and questionable projects by the mayor's office) and the city pulled together and raised the money to bail the zoo out.

Now, 2 years (almost) later and the zoo isn't being renovated or the exhibits expanded as was promised and the folks in charge of the zoo are balking at fully disclosing what they've been spending the money on (they promised full disclosure with the public in their campaign to save the zoo).

I love zoos, and animals in general. It's unfortunate when greedy, unscrupulous people bring down something as nice as a zoo.

  5. I love TOS.

I think TOS and even TAS offer some awesome science fiction stories.

One of these days, when I do finally start buying seasons sets I'm probably only going to buy TOS and The Animated Series. Love 'em, Love 'em. Love 'Em!

  6. Rained off and on all day.

And it's been very windy and cold, due to a front of arctic air which blew into California's central valley from British Columbia (or thereabouts) a few days ago.

Local weather experts say it'll last another 3 or 4 days.

  7. Actually, we were fish who evolved into amphibians who evolved into reptiles who evolved into mammals. Discovery Channel rocks!

Discovery Channel? You sure you weren't watching Comedy Central?

It's staggers me that fish into amphibian into lizard into monkey into man makes sense to some....

but creation by a superior being doesn't.

You don't see how some people don't believe in something as believable as Santa Claus but believe in physical, scientifically proved evidence? But I don't mean to offend...

And lizards did evolve into apes but there's millions of years of evolution and many creatures in between to think about. It would take alot to explain but amphibians evolved into reptiles, later on there was the first mammal which was still part reptile. Over time they separated and evolution goes on.

    Nah.

Sorry. I can believe in a lot of things. Bigfoot. The Chupacabra. Ghosts. Maybe even E.T.'s cruising around the bayou, looking for Bubba to probe.....but not this.

But that's just me. You can believe what you want.

I would like to find a lizard-monkey-fish-man though. It'd make me a billionaire over night.

  8. I served in the Army.

I needed money for college. Besides that, serving in the Army is sort of a family tradition. My dad served in the Army, and all my brothers (except one), plus 2 sisters. I may have been the last generation though. None of my nephews or nieces have any desire to serve.

While I was in I spent a few years in Germany (Stuttgart).

At times it was physically and mentally exhausting, but in the end it was worth it.

I remember that at first I nearly committed to the navy, because the Naval spokesman I talked to made the navy sound like an outstanding choice. But my dad was so mad and disgusted when I told him, that I basically backed down and went into the Army to please him. I'm not sure what happened with him during WWII, but hate is too light a term to ascribe his feelings toward Marines and Navy men. In all honesty, for a second I thought he was going to punch me when I said I was thinking of going with the navy.

Myself, except for the yearly Army-Navy game, I have no problems with marines or sailors.

  9. Laughing at a friend's website.

He's starting up an online business (selling knives, swords, battle axes...fun stuff like that) and has decided to display his wares on various stands and tables in his house...which is fine, but his house is so messy (that guy hasn't cleaned up since we were in college, I think)

that it looks like an H-bomb went off in it.
