  1. I've always thought that for a character who is mentioned in the main credits, he sure isn't in a lot of episodes. I never really had a problem with his character but I think the writers made a big mistake and built themselves into a wall when they decided to make Jake not want to get involved with Star Fleet. I really think the character could have been so much more interesting and they could have done so much more if he wanted to become a member of Star Fleet as opposed to a reporter who shows up every 10 episodes.

I wish the Trek writers had had him go into Starfleet, as well. Episodes like "...Nor the Battle to the Strong" could have still worked with him in Starfleet. They could have written him as a green officer, who's opposed to war. He could have even gone in with the express purpose of doing his duty as a person opposed to conflict, like a medic or even as a Starfleet reporter. Having him as a Starfleet officer would have also made his access to areas, like the bridges of starships, make more sense.

He's a good character overall. Too bad he was utilized enough.

  2. Now this is a great topic to discuss.  There were all kinds of media write ups about Janeway's hair.  I read once in a magazine that the original thoughts were that being a female captain of a star ship they did not want Janeway to look too attractive or sexy.  So they gave her what I termed a "grandma look."

That's what I always figured it was. It gave her a sort of school marm look that made her less babe-like, and perhaps more authoritative looking. Or perhaps more elderly than authoritative. :look:

Call me crazy, but I liked the bun. I also liked the bob. (I can't believe I acutally know the names of these hairdos. :D ) The only one I didn't care for was that one dsbs posted a picture of. That hybrid bun/ponytail thing didn't do much for me.

  3. I finally saw this episode a few months ago.  It ranks up there with the better ones.

Don't particularly care for the Benny breakdown towards the end, though.  :D

But the breakdown does show the kind of emotion Avery Brooks can put into the characters he plays.

Yeah, Avery Brooks is good. That scene was just a bit overdone for my taste.

  4. What is your favorite all time movie? That's hard.  Hmm...I'll cheat and say the Star Wars saga.

What is the scariest movie you've ever seen? The Six Sense.  The only others I've seen were the Alien movies, and those weren't too scary

    The funniest? Airplane

    The saddestBlack Hawk Down

    Offbeat Conspiracy Theory

Romance Does "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" count?

    :D

i thought aliens was scary. alein3 and alien ressurection plain sucked though.

AND YES ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE COUNTS! JAMES BOND ROCKS! Thats one of my favorites. louis armstrong: "we have all the time in the world" great song. GREAT MOVIE.

Yeah, I loved that movie. It's probably my favorite Bond movie. Or at least tied with From Russia With Love.

"We have all the time in the world" was awesome, too. I love Louis Armstrong (though I haven't heard too much of his stuff).

  5. Where are they on Enterprise? After only a 100 years I can not see it being entirely quit.

I would like to point out that I do not smoke, but think that its appearence on Enterprise would go to show that there is still some room for improvement between modern society of today and the world presented by TOS.

Don't know if this has been mentioned or not....

On subs, at least US subs, there's no smoking allowed because of the air that's being filtered and recycled. Nuc subs don't have to come up for air like the old diesel subs, so they can stay down quite a bit longer. Being in a starship would be the same way. They wouldn't have a chance to air out the ship unless they landed on a planet with an agreeable atmosphere.

Well, and then there's the underlying preachy message, I'm sure. :D

  6. Chakotay was one of the better, but underused characters on Voyager. Too bad he got shoved into the background so often.

It's also too bad that nothing was ever developed between Chakotay and Janeway. I never really liked Chakotay/Seven.

  7. i think they could do the long flowing hair. like savek's hair in the tos movies.

also, archer should make her wear a starfleet uniform

I'd like to see her with hair like that, too. Or a hairdo like Valeris had in TUC. At least it looks better the few episodes.

As for her uniform, anything but a silly looking catsuit. She'd probably look good in the Starfleet uniform, or a less form fitting Vulcan uniform.

  8. What is your favorite all time movie? That's hard. Hmm...I'll cheat and say the Star Wars saga.

  9. The Two Towers. Both were fantastic, but the first part dragged a bit in places. Especially during the Hobbiton scenes. The Two Towers lacked a sense of awe and magic that the first one provided, but that's okay since the first one had the task of creating this world for the characters, while the second one could focus more on seeing that the story moves forward.

Can't wait for Return of the King.

btw, who else hasn't read the books? I started them this semester, but had to quit because of work and keeping up with classes. Hopefully, I can find time to finish the trilogy this summer.

  10. Like Indy, I voted Garak, but I loved the revolutionist vission of Damar!

Ditto. Damar wasn't that interesting to me until he started to feel disgust for himself, and eventually made that change and became a great character. Before that, he was pretty much a tool.

Dukat was my favorite Cardassian early on, but not after he went loopy and started seeking out the Pah Wraiths. In a series of complex characters, he was too much of a cartoony villain later on.

  11. I thought the Dominion War worked well for DS9.  Although Roddenberry's vision was for a world of acceptance and peace, I think it illustrated that, even in the future, not everything can be perfect.

I completely agree. DS9 had a lot of conflict that was lacking in TNG. That's part of the reason I never took to new Trek, though I watched it pretty consistently, until DS9 came on. That, and the fact that DS9 had storyarcs, or themes that lasted throughout the entire series.

I liked the Dominion War quite a bit. It would have been nice to have it resolve earlier and move on to a new conflict, but it'd be difficult to pull off a good succesor to that conflict.
