1. I bought all three as they were released and a second set for my girlfriend. My only gripe is that they didn't include the bloopers or any audio commentaries from the cast members...which was a big let down. Still, I'm glad to just have them all (along with Babylon-5 and LEXX) on my shelf. :welcome:

  2. Okay, I talked to Gary tonight, and he says he's going to get back into playing Semi-Pro football. Now, he posed a question to me. He asked if I wished to go with him. The difficult part is, Will it be easy to transition from being a Coach to a Player? I've spent two years as a coach, and haven't even PLAYED for an organised team since I was 17. Would you do it if you were me? It might mean I'd have to give up coaching to do it, and it would be something I would need to consider very carefully before doing.

I'd say no. One simple reason: my Father. My Father played for the Sooners nack in the late sixties and even went to the Orange Bowl in 1968. He had a chance to coach but instead kept playing and ended up with some nasty injuries. He is now 60 and has suffered his whole life with two bad knees and a bad sholder. His neck troubles him sometimes and he is in constant physical pain...he eats Motrine like tic tacs. Playing can be fun, but the risk of permanent injury to me would far outweigh all other considerations...and players all have a shelf life...coaches don't as long as they win.

  3. I don't mean Jack Daniels or Jim Beam. I mean a good quality 12 year old aged single malt or blended scotch. I've been trying different brands and so far my favorite blend is J. Walker Black Label, aged 12 years and very good with ice and a cigar. So far the best single malt I've had is Connemara from Cooley's based in Ireland. It has a very smooth peaty taste and isn't for the casual drinker ($47.99 a bottle) but well worth the price.

I've also found that I enjoy a good stout beer, mainly Guiness.

  4. Well-

I just bought Godzilla: Final Wars.

I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The Matrix references were amusing and clash between Godzilla and "Zilla" was laugh-out-loud-hysterical. I always hated the American Godzilla(1997) film and was glad to see it essentially flattened for good. I also thought that the Amercian ship Captain looked an aweful lot like Captain Avatar from the 90's anime Starblazers.

Did anyone else laugh as much as me at the scene with the pimp and the cop in New York? I guess that's how the Japanese see us...? :)

  5. Voyager didn't really hit its stride until Season 4, when Jeri Ryan and her mneumatic shape were added to the rather wooded cast. The novelty of Seven wore off around the middle of Season 6 and when Voyager finally got home it was probably the biggest anti-climax in science fiction history after the ending for Revenge of the Sith.

  6. I have all seven TNG and I love them, I also have all 7 yrs on video ...Columbia

House, took me almost 7 years to collect them by mail every month, and now there just stored away because the DVD are more convenient.

    Can I make a suggestion?

You could box up all those obsilete Star Trek VHS cassettes and donate them to a local library and they will give you a receipt for the retail value of those cassettes which you can then use as a legal tax deduction. I bet all those cassettes run about $20.00 standard retail, so if you have 200 that's $4,000 you could deduct from your taxes.

    Food for thought.

  7. I've been saying for years that DS9 is the best of any of the series. It has been my experience that when TNGers seriously watch DS9 they quickly become Niners.

Character development in DS9 is far deeper then any of the other series.

I can't really agree. The only character whose development holds my interest in DS9 is Sisko, and that is because the writers allowed him to have a life, so that we could see him with his Father, his son and his lover after he comes to terms with the loss of his wife. Unfortunately it took DS9 three seasons to really become watchable, and by then it was mostly a patchwork of already tired Star Trek cliches and plot points lifted from the superior Babylon-5.*

Worf saved DS9 from going the way of "Enterprise", but for pure character development I've yet to see anything match (much less surpass) the original three seasons of Star Trek. Major Kira is sexy, but annoying. Dr. Bashir is painfully annoying...and I found Odo to be a one note character who never does anything more then growl at Quark.

*The whole "Dominion" War was lifted whole from Seasons 3 and 4 of Babylon-5, known as "The Shadow War".

  8. George is gay? Hmmm. Well I wonder how all the Christian Star Trek fans will react. I'm bisexual so of course I don't mind at all. I met him once at a convention and he was a nice guy...and funny.

  9. Do you think the Emotion Chip Data inserted in Himself in Generations realy Malfunctioned, or could it be he just took in all the emotions he had through his experiences all at once, His Father was killed, his Daughter Died in front of him, the one girl he was in love with (kinda Tasha) was killed, was it just too much for him to take, I doubt any human could take all that at once.

I've always hated the idea of Data having an emotion chip just because it seems obvious to me that Data already has emotions...he just isn't very good at expressing or exploring them. He values his friendship with Jordy and he obviously is attached to his cat (and his career) -all manifestations of emotion. All the "emotion chip" ever did was to expand what Data already inherently had...

If Data really had no emotions then he'd be a generic robot with zero personality and only the ability to do as he's told...a Vulcan without the charm.

  10. I think it would be an interesting topic to talk about. What do you think?

I myself think it might be a tie. But I think Chakotay would make a great captain just like Janeway. I am just a maquis kinda gal.

    359246

I think that the Chakotay of Season 1 was too much of a hothead to be a good Captain. By Season 4 I would say that he was just as good if not better then Janeway.

  11. How many season of TNG do you own? I own 1 season.. season 1!

    356558

I own Season 7 and that's it. I also own all three seasons of the original Star Trek.

I used to own all seven seasons of Voyager but sold them at a good price to a friend, and I can't say that I miss them. The best part of Voyager was Seven and her skin-tight outfits.

  12. Just saw it tonight on DVD. IMO, this is by far the best Batman movie. The origins of how he aquired his skills is in the martial arts. His equipment came from his company and is much more believable than that he developed it. The car is the best.

The psychological component of the interaction of fear, anger, and guilt was interesting.

    I rate it a 5/5.

    359007

I have to agree. I've always liked the first Batman, and others were very poor for various reasons...But Batman Begins really is one of the best comic adaptions around, right up there with Ghost World, Superman: The Movie, Hellboy and Sin City.

  13. Hmmm-

Well, both Alien and Superman are Tetralogies, not Trilogies. Same with Lethal Weapon and Revenge of the Nerds. If you include Alien Vs. Predator, then the Alien films number five, not three.

Planet of the Apes is also five films, six if you include the dreadful Tim Burton remake.

    Best film trilogy? Tough call:

Lord of the Rings? Too long.

The Godfather? Great until Part III.

    Star Wars? Before 1983- Great...After 1983...Bleh!

The Matrix? Part one is a masterpiece, part two is "okay"...part three was terrible.

Only the Evil Dead films actually get better...so I'd go with them.

  14. Well I just started Dune by Frank Herbert I'm about 1/2 way through and I am really enjoying it so far.  Has anyone else read this great book?

    357709

    Yes.

Dune has been called the greatest science fiction novel ever written. I'm not sure that I agree. I think that Dune was diminished by inferior sequals. However, I would easily place it alongside such seminal works as Ringworld (Larry Nivin), 2001: A Space Odyssey (Arthur C. Clarke) and the Foundation series (Asimov).

What do you think about Frank Herbert's views on religion in the novel?

  15. Wal-Mart has an exclusive bonus DVD for those who buy Revenge of the Sith on DVD. It will contain at least 60 minutes of additional footage.

Here's the link to the article

You couldn't pay me to own that rotten film. It was dreck from the word "go". Bad scripting, lousy acting and the special effects were like my PS2.

    Gimmie a break. :(

  16. Doom is taken from one of the worlds best selling console games ever, infact i have all versions of the game myself, staring ex-WWE superstar THE ROCK...here is the link to the trailer if anyone is intrested...DOOM

    353287

Movies based on vidogames are never worth watching. It's almost a law of nature. Super Mario Bros? Mortal Combat? Street Fighter?

    I rest my case! :(

  17. I think Rednecks get a bum deal, everyone thinks that they are racist hicks who do nothing but sit around and burn crosses and sing "Dixie" all day. being a "Redneck" is something you shouldn't be ashamed of, or be looked down upon for.

    356486

Yes it is. You should be ashamed and you should be looked down upon if you think being a "Redneck" is the least bit cool...because it isn't.

  18. What do you guys think of those we call "rednecks"? According to Jeff Foxworthy, i would be a redneck because i fit a lot of the stuff he says when he says "You might be a redneck if/when..." I don't mind "rednecks", as i am one myself! :( What are you guys opinions?

    356405

Rednecks are anyone who is white, Christian, and racist/homophobic. That pretty much encompasses the whole of the South and a fair bite of the North. :)
