1. My ship would be called:

    The R.S.S. SQUAREPEG

The "RSS" stands for Rogue Star Ship. It would be a Blue Tactical Borg Cube where the entire crew has managed to become individuals and broken free of the collective. We'd tool around the galaxy looking for fun, action, excitement, and we'd share Borg technology that was of a medical nature whenever possible. Eventually we'd find our way to the Beta Quadrant, teach the Cardassians to behave themselves once and for all, enter the wormhole, and see what we could do to improve things in the Gamma Quadrant.

  2. I just finished watching two films:

Prozaic Nation with Christina Ricci, which was actually pretty good. Her performance was Oscar worthy, pity it never got a theatrical release.

Lost in Translation was the other film. I can't figure out why this film has received the accolades it has...I found it trite, slow, and utterly boring. Yes, Scarlett Johansson is pretty to look at- but so what? So are half the clerks at the Mall...that doesn't mean I'm willing to pay $4.00 to stair at them for two hours. All in all I found it rather pointless.

  3. Yup....as big as the diameter of the Earth's orbit around the sun.

I was also impressed by the size of V'ger, which dwarfs even Darth Vader's massive flagship from Empire Strikes Back and the LEXX. :roflmao:

I was also surprised how large the Romulan Warbird is in relation to other Federation & Klingon ships...it's like a mile long!

  4. I see...

-so you're saying that had the kid's bottlerocket caused the guy in the car to swerve...lose control...smash into a tree...and get the guy killed...that's just "kids being kids"?

I don't think your looking at this from all angles.

  5. Well-

If the story as you present it is correct, then I think the kid's death, while certainly unfortunate...is frankly his own fault and the parents are certainly culpable in letting a child that age run free that late at night unsupervised.

  6. How can you compare a show that was killed in its first season because of bad writing to a modern marvel like the new Battlestar Galactica....???

Correction: The original BG was killed because it was too expensive to make. At the time, it was the most expensive show on television. The show was still in the top 10 in the ratings when it was cancelled. The network geniuses felt that the new concept of Battlestar:1980 would be much cheaper to make and somehow still be entertaining.

That's what Glen Larson says, and maybe he's telling the truth but I doubt it. One of the reasons for my doubt is Douglas Trumbell. Douglas Trumbell, who did many of the special effects work on the original Star Wars, was hired to work on Battlestar Galactica and bowed out when he saw how shoddy the final product was.

Once that happened, few people continued to have faith in the show. Douglas Trumbell later went on to work on films like Star Trek: The Motion Picture while Battlestar Galactica went on to become yet another example of 70's kitch that was best forgotten.

  7. One of the most annoying characters to me was Mr. Bailey from "The Corbomite Maneuver". This guy was a bridge officer who completely fell apart during a crises. How this guy got assigned to the Federation flagship in the first place is beyond me.

    341692

    Well...

Having actually served aboard a ship (I was in the Navy), I can tell you that it is very human for men to panic in the face of the unexpected. I can forgive Baily, given that the Enterprise was facing a Deathstar-sized ship with what seemed like almost limitless power...

I often wish in Next Generation they might have done a follow up, with perhaps Baily now in command of the Fesarius, exploring the Galaxy and establishing "First Federation" contacts. It certainly would be interesting to see how the Fesarius would fare against a Borg Cube or a Cardassian fleet.

  8. What type of premise could be used to get them in the same time period? Star Trek is our future and Star Wars is a long time ago in a galaxy far away.

    312372

That's pretty easy. Q could simply merge the two universes by whatever plot convinient method works best for his own amusement.

It seems evident to me that the Empire wouldn't stand a chance against the Federation. Four Star Destroyers were unable to apprehend one crummy corelian freighter (Millennium Falcon) and a small handful of rebel fighters were able to destroy the Empire's "Ultimate Weapon".

Kirk or Picard could have figured out the Deathstar's weakness (with the help of Spock/Data and the ships scanners) and done essentially the same with a well placed Photon Torpedo. Tom Paris could have matched Luke Skywalker's performance in the Delta Flyer and he wouldn't need the Force, either.

The Empire's ships seem very poorly constructed compared to Star Fleet vessals. Han Solo is able to trick an entire fleet of Imperial Cruisers just by hiding on one of them...something that would never work on a Star Fleet ship.

The Empire's vessals also seem very poor at maneuvering. Granted this could simply be because of their size, but a Federation fleet would buzz the larger Imperial ships like raptors attacking a wounded elephant. Phasers would make short work of Imperial fighters, which would not be able to penetrate Federation shields.

The Federation would also be able to beam security troops to the enemy Imperial ships and take them over with ease...

So much for the "mighty" Galactic Empire.

  9. I've posted this site at a few threads here and there but I felt it deserved to have its own thread. I just love this site, I only wish I could figure out how to download it and make a poster.

    merzo.net

They have ships from (but not limited too):

    Star Trek (all series)

    Star Wars

    Babylon-5

    Andromeda

    2001: A Space Odyssey

    LEXX

    Battlestar Galactica (original)

    Stargate

    Forbidden Planet

    Space:1999

    Transformers: The Movie

    Macross

    Enjoy!!!

  10. Apparently rebooting the Original Series is J. M. Straczynski's idea for series 6. I agree it is a very bad idea. It works for BSG because it had no spinoffs, nothing to connect to.

I would hate for the convoluted continuity of comic books to take hold in Star Trek.

    337350

    Well...

The reason it worked for Battlestar Galactica is because the original was so friggin aweful. Ronald Moore took the ideas that worked, chucked what didn't, and made a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

By contrast, the original Star Trek is one of the greatest television shows ever produced, right up there with Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Roots (miniseries), and the Sopranos.

  11. I saw this topic at TrekBBS and thought it would make for a good topic here as well.  Do you think Trek as a whole should get a "reboot" and be modernised?

My answer is NO.  When you have comics and stuff or stand alone movies, remakes and retellings are bound to happen.  However, the reason why I love Trek and would never watch a remake is becuase the story goes on.  When one show, movie, or series of movies ends, you can go on with new adventures and a new crew.  I also don't want a Trek series that would get all pollitical and story arcs about Earth and all that.  For me, STAR TREK is about a human crew with some aliens on a starship, explorring the cosmos, and telling great science-fiction stories in the process along with some interresting moral and ethical situations.  To me, that is what STAR TREK is all about.  I feel a re-make or reboot would totally destroy this.

My big question is: Why do a reboot or remake when you can do a continuation?

Also, who cares if continuity is off in the long run as long as it's intact within a TV series or group of movies.  When you have a franchise as big as Trek, there's bound to be inconsistancies between series.  It happens.

Anywho, what are your thoughts on this topic?

    69373

They already did that- its a tv show called

    Gene Roddenberry's ANDROMEDA

It just finished a 5-season run: better then either Enterprise or TOS Star Trek and equal to Babylon-5.

  12. For me, it's a tie between Kira, and Jadzia, but I voted for Kira.

    332821

I picked Kira too. I can't put my finger on what it is I like about her exactly. She's passionate, and while she's not an ultra-hot babe like Xev (from LEXX), there is something about her I find very alluring...perhaps its that beneith her tough exterior she has a wounded quality...not unlike Ivanova from Babylon-5.

I like the actress who plays Jadzia, but I never really cared for her character or the whole idea of "Trills" in general: they remind me too much of the anagonists from the various "Alien" films.

  13. (Just came back to check on my thread..And its still open COOL)

Sam you have a tribble..Can i have one too???

Anyway.. Jadzia has some nice gams

But its Kirk who i was staring at.. He was so HOT

    So was Spock..

    338470

    Well who could blame you?

Like most of us I tend to think that this is certainly one of the better episodes of DS9, although I'm not convinced it's the very best one. I think for me the best one of all is the first one from Season 4, when Worf joins the crew and DS9 has to battle an entire Klingon Fleet. It has the production values of a Star Trek movie, and I was enthralled from beginning to end. I also really like the one where Sisko is a science fiction writer living in 1930's New York.

    Your thoughts...?

  14. Beside Jaz-dax, do you think a few other main characters should of died (sisko doesnt count, cause is he really dead or just chilling with the prophets) I think Odo should of died from the infection, for a real Tear-Jerker O'brien since he has a family, do you think anyone else should of died or am I just a sick person

    338009

I don't mean to sound bloodthirsty, but I feel that Sisko and most of the DS9 crew should have either been killed or at least had their stories resolved somehow. The way Season 7 ended was just so....unresolved. What eventually happens to DS9 itself? What happens to the planet Cardassia?

This is why for me DS9 will never be able to compare with Babylon-5. Frankly I blame Rick Bermen, as I'm sure he entertained thoughts of a big budget DS9 film, which of course never happened. At the very least Sisko should have been allowed the dignity of a heroic death or at least a respectable retirement...as it is he didn't get either, and it makes me feel cheated.

  15. I have to agree with a few other posters on this thread.  Christine Chapel really, really annoyed me.  She was a classic doormat of a person with basically no personality.  I saw Majel Barret at a convention years ago and even she admitted to not liking the character much.  I can't say I blame Spock for backing away whenever she approached!      :dude:

    T'Bree

    252237

    Well...

That might be true, but the irony is that she went on to play an even MORE annoying character on Next Generation.

Charlie X was creepy- but he was suppose to be creepy, kinda like that kid from Twilight Zone that could read minds and terrorized a whole town.

I think for me that woman who stole Spock's Brain wins just because she has the thankless job of speaking the dumbest line of dialogue in all three seasons of TOS:

"Brain! Brain! What is Brain!!!???"

  16. Hard to pick. I liked Koloth because he was played by the same actor who played Trelane in "The Squire of Gothos". I can't remember the actor's name, but the one who played Kor was excellent (great sinister voice) and he later went on to play the original Balter in the original Battlestar Galactica.

Again- the name escapes me, but the guy who played Kang has been in a lot of different things. He was in the original Outer Limits episode "The Soldier" (written by Harlan Ellison), he was also a Technomage in Babylon-5, and he was the voice of Mr. Freeze in "Batman: The Animated Series". All great work!

  17. I think this new BG is the biggest snoozefest on TV. I was, and still am, a big fan of the original series and was excited when I heard about its return. But after watching the first 4 episodes, I was bored to death. Thank God they are now planning a new movie based on the original BG.

    341413

I am shocked that anyone could entertain such an opinion. How can you compare a show that was killed in its first season because of bad writing to a modern marvel like the new Battlestar Galactica....???

  18. Agreed; that's a great ship site. I already had it on my favorites list on my old computer. Thanks for bringing it to my attention again.

    341322

It's recently been updated to include ships like the Andromeda, the Nostromo (from "Alien"), Space Station-5 (from 2001: A Space Odyssey) and even Unicron (from Transformers: The Movie).

Eratosthenes- Too big? [scratches head] What ships do you think are too big...?
