  1. Alright, firstly I would like to apologize to all members of Startrekfans.net for my negligence in regard to the trivia forum since July of 2006. I failed in my assignment and I regret it. I was busy, I got behind and the trivia forum was neglected.

As for the future, I don't think I will be able to do it and I am currently discussing the future of the forum with the rest of the staff.

I thank you for your continuing patience and I hope to have news for you in the near future.

  2. As someone on another board pointed out, everything on that list already has a trailer. Also note how there are no movies on that list beyond July 10th.

I agree that some of those movies should be on there but considering some of the other releases: Indiana Jones V, Bond 22, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Star Trek, this is a lousy list.

  3. WOW! This is a really stupid mistake for Christie's to make! It could ruin their credibility!.. :yahoo:

I think any credibility they had would have been shot to hell after price fixing with Sotheby's.

Anyway, this may or may not go anywhere. As the article says everything was verified for Christie's by the Okudas, who are easily among the most knowledgable people about Star Trek. It seems what happened is that the poker visor that was sold was not a fake but not the exact prop worn by Brent Spiner. It was most likely a back up that was confused with the original (which Brent Spiner took with him at the end of TNG).

  4. I'm hoping that the uniform's insignia isn't a communicator too.

That would be killing the canon big-time.

It would hardly be a major canon violation but keep in mind the person who wrote the original blurb with the spy photos is not a Star Trek fan.

This would also not seem to be the regular uniform, rather it is identified as "formal wear" (of course, that is coming from the same non fan).

  5. I hate to tell you this, but Memory Alpha is an end-user wiki. When you view a wiki you are not necessarily viewing facts but rather what some end-users think are facts.

Wikis are generally designed with the philosophy of making it easy to correct mistakes, rather than making it difficult to make them. That means the data is constantly changing and you don't know if what you are looking at today will be there tomorrow.

According to the imdb (which I acknowledge is not a great source, either): According to the producers, the Klingon blood was purple to avoid an "R" rating. Also, the use of purple blood was to serve as a visual symbol both metaphorical (showing the vast differences between Klingon and Human values and ideals) and literal (showing the differences between our anatomies; slamming home why McCoy could never have saved the Chancellor's life). Klingon blood has always been red in the television series.

Of course, I listened to the commentary on STVI and they don't mention this but apparently, the blood was green in the script but that was changed due to Vulcans already having green blood.

So how hard would it have been to continue to show pink blood in subsequent series episodes?

I agree completely Kringle, TUC was the first time I remember ever seeing Klingon blood so how difficult would it have been to just keep show that color blood in every instance after???

I'm guessing it was always just cheaper and easier to use red blood because they had it on hand. The logical in-universe explanation is the Klingon Augment virus as Klingon blood is red before and after ST VI.

  6. Star Trek VI is the only instance of pink/purple Klingon blood. This was only done to avoid an R rating. Klingon's have been seen bleeding red in every other instance of a Klingon bleeding.

Ah, but there was also red human blood in that movie. So that couldn't have been the reason.

It was. Directly from Memory Alpha:

In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Klingon blood is pink, and in TNG and DS9 it is red. The supposed reason for this is that having floating red blood all over the ship was considered too violent, and would have given the movie a more extreme rating than would be appropriate for the target audience. Pink blood makes it obvious at a glance that the violence is simulated, not real.

  7. Star Trek VI is the only instance of pink/purple Klingon blood. This was only done to avoid an R rating. Klingon's have been seen bleeding red in every other instance of a Klingon bleeding.

  8. As of yet, no mention has been made of any of the other original actors. However, I think it would be a real shame if they don't get some kind of cameo in the film. It would be the right thing to do.

If they're not in it now, they're not going to be. Filming has started and the script is locked. Abrams can't even suggest a new line let alone add a new character or scene.

  9. Beyond missing out on a few changed lines, I don't think this is going to effect the film all that much. If they shut down, they may never be able to get all of the people involved back at the same time to finish the movie.

On a more positive note, the film has actually benefitted from the strike as Angels and Demons (the Da Vinci Code prequel which would have had roughly the same release date as Trek XI) has been pushed back to 2009.

  10. At this point, we have absolutely nothing to substantiate what Cawley is saying. The movie is over a year away and a lot can change and Cawley can't even be sure what he saw was the Enterprise.

However, as someone on another board brought up, Abrams wouldn't go so dead on with Quinto as Spock and then screw with the Enterprise.

I'm not expecting they'll be leaving the Enterprise unchanged but I think they'll retain most of it. I'm really just hoping for a more texturized version of the original series Enterprise. Something that looks slightly better than the remastered version but not as far Gabe Koerner's redesign he did in his spare time.

  11. I agree. The writer's strike is going to create havoc with the shows we like to watch as well as movies in production. I heard on the news today that the late night talk shows will be affected first, followed by the soap operas and then the prime time shows. They said that most of the prime time shows have scripts already written that will take them through January.

Luckily, from what I've read, Star Trek will be fairly insulated from the strike.

  12. We have on real indication on plot other than it will involve the TOS crew, an older Spock, and a villian named Nero. There's been talk of a straight prequel or a prequel that results in the creation of an alternate timeline (which hasn't been substantied beyond the AICN article which is a suspect source from what I've heard).

However, at this point, it is essentially impossible for any TOS cast beyond Nimoy to appear due to the Writer's Strike. Unless they appeared in an earlier draft of the script, they can't be written in.

  13. I can't say that i blame him. Imo, Star Trek without the Kirk i grew up with is as bad as when the new Battlestar came out with politically correct character castings of classic crew members. What are producers thinking when they embark on projects such as these? Are they looking for ways to irritate loyal fan bases? :elephant: <_<

While I don't agree that leaving Shatner out means the movie will be bad, I do feel that Shatner deserves at least a cameo of some sort. He's earned it and derserves it!

But he's said he won't do a cameo. He wants as substantial a part as Nimoy and that would require a (likely major) reworking of a script that is set to be filmed starting on November 5th (not to mention the writer's strike set to begin on Halloween). They said they would try to work him in in a way that was worthy of him and they couldn't. They attempted to accomodate him, they couldn't, and he has said he won't do a cameo.

So effectively, Shatner has no one to blame but himself and should shut up.
