  1. Speculation. Kurtzman and Orci make no mention of the plot of the movie during their appearance on Life After Film School, at least in the clips I've seen. They merely discuss how to label the film (i.e. prequel vs. reboot, etc). This story is mainly just one website extrapolating based on existing facts and claiming it was in said TV show (the story showed up when only the one clip was released) and a bunch of others picking it up.

Now, this story could end up being true and does sound somewhat plausible but it wasn't revealed by Kurtzman and Orci. With all the secrecy surrounding this film, I sincerely doubt Kurtzman and Orci would leak the plot on a show that isn't even made by Paramount.

  2. I can't believe that we have to wait another year for this movie. What happended to Christmas 2008? Now they have tacked on another eight months: another eight months to make more £££ and $$$ no doubt.

Screwed over with petrol (gas), screwed over with food prices, now being screwed over by Star Trek!

Actually, they only added another 4 and half months. The movie is released in 8 months.

  3. My responses:

    1. Okay, yeah sure maybe Abrams track record can be a little suspect at times but quite frankly, besides Pixar and maybe Spielberg find me someone in Hollywood whose track record isn't. IMO, he has enough successes to give him the benefit of the doubt.

    2. The delay is actually for the exact opposite reason. Paramount was liking what they saw and thought it would play better in the summer. There was a lot of shuffling of movies right after the writer's strike, so while pushing it back sucks, I don't think its a result of poor quality. Star Trek was also moved in the opposite direction of Ghost Rider, in that Ghost Rider was moved from summer to winter while Star Trek was moved from winter to summer. I should also mention that at one point Ghost Rider was moved up from August to July, which could indicate the studio thought it was good quality based on his logic.

    3. Okay, I will concede that a lot of prequels do in fact suck, but that doesn't mean that they all suck. Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom is a prequel and while it is probably the weakest of those movies, it is still a good movie. Some prequels suck, some sequels suck, and some original films suck. But you have to at least see part of the film before you can make a conclusive judgment. I would also like to point out that the author cycles through all three alternative terms (remake, prequel, and reboot) before calling it a prequel. They're not interchangable, pick one (in this case he did eventually settle on prequel).

    4. Few people seem to realize how good an actor Simon Pegg really is. He displays considerable acting talent in Spaced, Hot Fuzz, and especially Shaun of the Dead. I also think the author somewhat contradicts himself when he says Pegg is desperate to make it in the U.S. as a comedy actor but is still such a big star that his casting is stunt casting. I think he means he's an international star or at least a star in the UK but that's not what he says. Still, based on what I've seen from the man I have no reason to doubt that Simon Pegg will be a fantastic Scotty and do James Doohan proud.

    5. This point isn't even remotely relevant. I don't think anyone honestly believes that that Romulans were responsable for the critical and financial failure of Star Trek Nemesis. Plus, think of all the good episodes the Romulans have been in, there is no sort of Romulan curse when anything that features them is bad. It's like saying Star Trek 6 won't be any good because it features Klingons and previous movies that feature Klingons aren't that good (i.e. Star Trek III and V).

Overall, this guy may not be entirely wrong but I think he's jumping to conclusions.

  4. You could start a quadrology thread but I think there would only be three really prominent ones and Terminator 4 isn't even out yet.

FTR, I voted for the Original Star Wars Trilogy because I've seen that more than any of the others. But LOTR is a very close second and easily the best film trilogy of the past 10 years.

  5. Mark Hamill in B:TAS was the definitive Joker. The perfect mix of what the Joker is supposed to be: psychotic and yet still funny.

Case in point: This YouTube video of various Joker laughs by Hamill:

There's also this one of one of only two Joker appearances on Justice League (unfortunately only Batman could be used on the later seasons of Justice League due the "Bat-Embargo" which reserved most of Batman's supporting characters and Rogue's Gallery for the relaunched movies and The Batman TV series). For the record, Mark Hamill is also voicing Solomon Grundy in this clip.

That being said, I really liked Ledger's portrayal. I was afraid he was going to go too far to the psychotic side without being funny, but I did find his Joker to be quite funny. From what I've seen, Nicholson and Romero just don't do it for me. Romero's Joker was just a campy clown themed villian with none of the darkness that the Joker is supposed to have (which is understandable when you look at how tongue-in-cheek that series was) and Nicholson's Joker just campy and annoying (but better than Romero's). Though Nicholson did have at least some of the requisite darkness.

For the record, I also consider Kevin Conroy (also B:TAS and who has played Batman than any other actor) to be the definitive Batman. Though I do love Christian Bale's Batman. Of course, I consider the DCAU version of everything DC related to be the definitive version.

  6. CNN has a great review of The Dark Knight that you can read here

They basically say that what brings the movie down is Eckhart's performance as a bland Harvey Dent. This ain't good news if they plan on having Two Face as the villain of the next movie. I haven't see TDK yet, but I just hope he isn't as bad as the article says, or we are looking at a disappointing third film

They are way off, Eckhart is amazing in this movie.

Major Spoilers below. You definitely do not want to read it if you are planning to see the movie.

    Click for Spoiler:

He actually becomes Two-Face in this movie (and he won't be back for a sequel, hint, hint) and that is where he really shines. I mean he is second only to Ledger. Especially when you consider the fact that to do the Two-Face make-up he would have had blue screen pieces over his left eye and partially over half his mouth. And as for the look of Two-Face. Let's just say wow. He is fairly good as just Harvey Dent as well.

  7. I doubt we'll get a whole lot. This movie is designed to appeal to a much broader audience and giving a lot of information on the post NEM area would be contrary to that goal.

    Click for Spoiler:

I imagine we may get a couple of lines of exposition explaining the current situation of the Romulan Star Empire post NEM, which I believe would be pretty similar to what I've read about in a couple of novels (i.e. political upheaval due to the consecutive falling of two governments) and then we'll have Nero's plan to restore them to glory by changing history.

    Just a guess.

  9. From what I've heard, Shatner was quite the jerk back when filming the original series. One thing I know for sure is that he often counted lines in order to ensure that Captain Kirk got the most.

  10. I agree, it's possible, but I don't think it will hurt the movie. There are also some Star Wars fans that agree with Cho. I am a Star Wars fan, and even an official member of the Star Wars Hyperspace Fan Club. I can agree that Star Trek is more mature.

However, I haven't watched a single Matt Damon movie after his anti-Bond remarks. So, there will be some that probably won't go

    MATT DAMON?? He's in it?

He is not. The Kryptonian is refering to Matt Damon's remarks that Bourne was more mature than Bond (or something to that effect) and subsequently he hasn't watched any of Damon's movies.
