1. But you don't know what he did - that's my point - he had to do something serious enough to draw attention to himself - like shouting at the top of his lungs or running up to the front of the class and making a scene. Shouting and running around the room are unacceptable - Pledge or not.

Maybe he was the only one that looked even a bit happy to be saying it.

kids at my school (including myself) have gotten away with activities like substituting the Nazi salute for the hand-over-heart gesture.

As much as many people will say no; it's a fact that the Nazi salute was used until world war 2 (it was Roman before it was Nazi).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_salute

The Nazi salute is no longer any big deal at all. I have done it to the "bag Nazis" (the people at the door that stop you are 'inspect' your bags) at wal-mart. Needless to say they didn't get it.

  2. If I was the kid; that would be the last time I pledged to anything in that class room.

Also; I didn't think they were allowed to force someone to pledge their allegiance; making him write it is the same as making him say it. They can get in serious legal trouble for doing what they did, and I suspect they will.

  3. Well,personally I think it should go away for a few years.No tv,no movies.

Then around...2010,maybe,another tv series could debut, then if that series is successful, another movie.

What can be done then that can not be done now? All that will do is make people forget it being the massive thing it was; turning it into something people watch and say "Wasn’t this based on something?" instead of it being a continuation; it would be like a new series… I personally would not like that.

Also not all Star Trek fans will patently wait 5 years, many people that like Star Trek like it for the fact there was always more of it and that it was something you could really sink yourself into, most people like this (I was one) will start caring less and less about Star Trek (as I have) to the point they no longer care much about it at all.

The only thing time is going to do is make Trek forgotten and maybe give it a new start; both bad things for all diehard Star Trek fans (would you like to see TOS remade in a way it was totally different? Well that is definitely a possibility if it got a “new start”).

  4. I'm not confident that a show exclusively based on Klingons, Romulans or any other alien race could be sustained for an entire series. Perhaps some mini-series or chapters in an anthology show.

We can have 6 (+ movies) about the federation but not hold up one about the Romulans? Something new like losing the "always on the good side" view point is just what Star Trek needs. The federation is old and no one finds it interesting anymore. Everything is documented and laid out, there is no place left to go inside the federation.

    It must expand to live.

  5. I don’t really like when things like Star Trek do only movies. Movies don’t set any type of background (with the exception of FC) and tend to ignore a lot; focusing on only the “action” in a story.

I voted TV and movies, as the balance is what made Star Trek goods far.

Oh you mean Emulation ON the Dreamcast, not Emulation OF the Dreamcast.

    Or do you? :)

  7. \Just a web site, BK. the url for the present one is http://embark.to/USSEros. It's hosted on Bravenet right now, but I can't access the hosting manager to fix a few problems and add some new stuff to it.

    344116

I used angelfire for a long time. The ads were overbearing, but no worse then Bravenet.

It has emulated FTP, making it easy to upload. It does not have CHMOD that I know of, but then it’s unlikely you will want to hide anything.

  8. 000k was a good one, but I am pretty sure they stopped the free hosting.

I am setting up my own server, once it’s all installed, setup and tested I would host your site… but I am not sure if I will have remote file uploads (I can’t install FTP without opening a firewall port I would rather not open, and FTP does not run so well on windows) and the completion time is unknown; so far I have tried to install Linux 5 times with no success (Linux installed, but the servers didn’t work).

What is it you want hosted? A forum? If so it may be better to look for a site that does only forums... I can tell you at lest 3 of them.

  9. It does nouthing but disrupt the flow of things and was one of the dumber things to become a law (is it a law or just something like it? I am not really sure on that part). I am tempted to say dumbest but I know that is most certainly NOT true.

  10. Why do we need people that are that dumb?

Why waste the resources on them?

If you lack the commonsense to not fall out a window from leaning on the screen, a warring label is not going to help you learn!

Do a favor for yourself and society; go live in the forest!

  11. Actually, I didn't see where anyone on this thread said there was a direct causal link between media and violent behavior. There is however, some evidence that shows it has an effect on viewers - which is a different thing - that makes it only one factor among many.

I am not talking about anyone here, but I have talked to people that would swear video games are the main if not only source of violence in society today.

As for there always being violence - again an assumption being passed off as fact.

Did I say there will always be violence? No... someday, far from now, it is more then likely things like violence will be gone. And today, there will be violence with or without media/games, do you really think the world leaders killing thousands are motivated by battlefield 2? No, they are not. (Getting into other violence here, but I was not me that took the topic there)

  12. there was vioent kids before video games, oh yea they blamed Tv for that them, then Rock N Roll, and before that Comics, its just the puritant society we live in where people cant think on their own, the parents should take responsiblity if they dont want their kids to play them, Come on people

    337281

I agree totally. Like I said, all they are doing is shifting the blame, as if society would be perfect if things like video games and TV didn't exist.

  13. [rant]I love how people like this like to use the same lines over and over to blame their own errors on.

Shift blame, shift blame… evil game companies, evil TV, evil internet, they must all be stopped!

Let’s kill free media and expression, that will magically solve all the violate kid’s problems…. Not.

The fact is deep rooted discrimination (in the from of being an “outcast” or in the other uses of the term) and seeing things that are violate in real life has far more of an affect then playing a video game EVER will.

I have played games that are violent all my life and I am not killing everyone I see, on the other hand I can point to a number of violent children that have never been allowed to play a video game that are far more violent then I ever was.

Sensationalizing video game violence is just a way of claming someone else is responsible for your failures.

Do not try to debate me, I am done debating with people that will never understand my views.[/rant]

Also you seem to jump to the conclusion that someone that is violent and has done something violent based on something in a game does not mean they became violent from games. A currently violent person may simply mold their violence to that of a game, movie or TV show, this putting blame on the game for a preexisting problem.

  14. Yah, but i'm not good at the un-themed ones (just colours), so i might need help with that...

    337145

It will 'come' to you, turst me. Keeping it on theme is far harder then keeping it off!

  15. But no pips does not really mean they are crewmen, crewmen have their own rank system and pips (or more pip-bars like the admirals), so it’s likely that crewmen would all have on some type of pips.

As for who the non-pipped people are, I have no idea. Maybe civilian?

  16. This brings to mind a question: how come we hardly sae any enlisted people? Othre than a crewman, or a Yeoman, I'm hard pressed to name any enlisted personel othre than Chief O'Brien, or the MU Travis on Enterprise.

They are in the walls…
