  1. Years and years ago they did two books that were TOS based and where mostly short stories from some of the best TOS writers. It had stories like "Mind sifter" and "Visit to a strange planet, revisited" and many others that i can't remember the titles for...hum, i think there was also one called "Surprise!"

these were awesome and i have read them over and over again. I LOVED them. I wish they would do a book like those for all the incarnations of Trek.

You're thinking of the STAR TREK: NEW VOYAGES anthologies. Pocket has something along those lines, as they produce a new edition of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS each year, where the stories are the winning entries submitted by fans as part of an annual writing contest. Some of the winners in SNW have gone on to write other Trek fiction, too.

I think these two books are definately my favorites! :( I loved Mind Sifter by Shirley Maiewski in the first one, and In the Maze by Jennifer Guttridge and The Procrustean Petard by Sondra Marshak & Myrna Culbreath in the second one. I love the short stories the best! A fast ST fix for anyone who loves ST! I have all 5 of the newer Strange Worlds but it's not the same. They don't 'feel' right. I don't know if that makes any sense but that's how I precive them. I've read just about all of the OS novels, and several NG that I really liked but do you think I could remember any at the moment? :innocent: I liked the first Imzadi but couldn't get into the second one, I'll have to try again. I loved all the Q stories. I'm having trouble getting into the 'series' type books because once I finish a book I want it to end, not 'drag on' to the next '60' (exageration, lol). They must be popular because everybody else likes them. Of course, I'm like that with all my SF or story reading, short and sweet.

  2. I have several NG 'figures' stored in boxes. My tribbles are on display! I made 3 of them back in '77 or '78 and have had them ever since. When they actually came out with the tribble a couple of years ago, I thought about buying one but then I thought it wouldn't be as special. I have several novels, but sadly no pictures. I did get the 'card' (notebook sized cards, notebook included) collection one year, but got out of that because I was spending 'way' to much on it. If it says 'Trek', I have the cash, and I want it, it's mine!

Gotta go see my Gramma! YEA!!!!!!!!

  3. I've watched Trek since '66 or '67 not sure which, don't remember that far back too well. Speaking of children when my son was born he actually had pointed ears! No lie! The doctor said, "I've never seen a baby with such pointed ears." My husband replied..."She's been reading Star Trek novels the whole pregnancy." He's almost 18 now and hates when I tell that story. Oh and his ears are perfectly round, darn it!

  4. Well I went to the Doctor today and had a nerve test. That was a lot of fun. I was hooked up to electrodes and had electric shocks sent through my nerves in my left hand and arm. Big fun, I suggest everyone try it :D

Anyway, it seems there is some nerve damage. I find out on Tuesday what's to be done about it.

My husband had that done. He said the same thing you did! :D He's a painter/carpenter and he's had elbow surgery because of the pinched 'funny bone' nerve. No fun there! He also has carpal in both wrists. He takes a lot of motrin and or asprin (?sp) for pain. He's learned to switch hands. He never complains though.

Best of luck next week at the Dr's!

  5. I was driving past one of our new sub-divisions here in Blm, IL and saw the name Eagles Nest, or something like that...and I thought wouldn't it be cool if someone built a sub-division or a 'gated community' of Star Trek?

We could have Worf Park, Picard Avenue, Kirk Street, and the one that had my niece almost incontinent with laughter, Spock Boulevard. Gowron avenue, Tribble blvd, Not just person names for the streets either, you could do show titles too. The longer titled shows could be shortened like, COTEOF St. *Gee, which one is that one? :D * She told me that I would be the one to come up with something like that, and as we were talking about it I told her that only

"Trekkers/Trekkies" would be allowed to purchase homes or lots. :D And there would be a TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT sections, along with Alien Sectors, Vulcan, Romulan, Klingon, etc, you get the idea. I thought about a name like...Enterprise Universe, or Roddenberry's (sorry for misspelling it, if I did.) Solar System or IDIC. Something cool like that.

    Just something to think about...

What do you guys think of my :D ?

Are there any builders out there willing to take on my idea? LOL

  7. I'm a die-hard 'oldie' fan. TNG came close but I don't stop to watch it like I do TOS. Of course I can see two seconds of TOS and tell you the name, plot, and dialog! Which my kids and husband find a little bit scary. :o They'll quick flip through the show and say okay mom what was it. It freaks 'em out a little. They say I watch to much Trek.

    For me it's fun!

  8. When it came out I liked it because it was Trek, but I was disappointed and couldn't figure out why. I asked a friend of mine and she told me if I 'zipped' through all the 'flash and glitter' special effects I might like it better. So, I tried her suggestion and low and behold it worked! IMHO, If they would have stayed with the characters rather than the so-called 'special effects' I would have loved it from the beginning.

  9. This topic has been very interesting, but I think Ktrek hit the nail on the head with his last post. I agree with him 100%! I too am a Christian, I hate the action, but love the person behind the action. People will be people and they all have a CHOICE to be who they are. God loves US, not WHAT WE DO. And that brings me to this...sex, be it between hetero or homo, is such a very small part of all of our lives. We have so much more to offer than what's between our legs. I don't mean that to offend or upset anyone with that last comment but it's so true. We, as a people, have more to offer between our two ears than we do our legs. Dwelling on that portion of our anatomy just doesn't seem right to me. I want to know what's going on inside of someones head, not what's going on behind closed doors when I'm not around.

    Just my .02 cents worth.

  10. I don't mean to be a 'putz' but what ever happened to falling in 'love' with the character before putting them into dangerous situations where you are concerned with what happens to them? I think the reason I'm having trouble with Enterprise is that I'm not really interested in what's happening to them. Sure the social/racial/political stuff is important, but if you don't care what happens to the person/crew who cares? I fell in 'love' with the characters on TOS, and TNG and was concerned with how they dealt with the issues at hand. DS9, VOY seemed to me to be 'going through the motions'. You know, doing "Trek" because it was popular. I kind of feel that way about Enterprise, and please forgive me, the last two movies. Don't get me wrong they are all good in their own way, but I don't 'love' them the way I do the original two. I'm giving Enterprise the chance to show me I'm wrong. I do like the show, it's just I feel like it's just to make money and not for entertainment. Sorry if I offend anyone.

    Playing  's advocate here.

  11. No, there's no rules or anything like that but if you'd like to start one you can set the rules and parameters the way you'd like to have them. Let me know when you start the story and I can "Pin" it so that it stays at the top.

    :D:D :)

Cool! I would love it! Let me think about it and I'll let you know!! Do I need to email you the rules and parameters or post them with the start? You have no :P how happy I am right now!!!! I will get back with you!

    Katy ;)

  12. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you on this one. When I made this story forum I was hoping it might take the form of an interactive story, if I understand what you mean by interactive.

I would love to see a Star Trek story start here where one person starts it then another user continues it then another picks up from the previous post etc. Is that what you mean by IA?

Exactly! Would you like for me to start something? I ran an IA or 'round robin' story board for 2 years and LOVED it! I think it would be so fun! The question I have is, can it be strickly 'canon' characters? It's hard when people start adding their characters. Do you have rules set up for an IA or round robin? Please let me know!

    Katy

  13. where I can find a good interactive story board for TOS or TNG? I love the IA stories and am itching to do some 'joint writing' with other fans. I'd also like to find a good ST site that has good fan fic.

    Let me know!!!

  14.

Okay here goes...One of my earliest memories of TOS was my mother saying to me "Watch the man with the pointy ears." But my most important memory of TOS was...now don't laugh...I was taking a spelling test and the word I had to spell was bones. I began to cry thinking about the up coming eppy...the name escapes me at the moment...but "Bones" was dying. I was sitting at my desk crying my eyes out because I loved McCoy that much! They began the repeats and my friend Marilyn and I would watch them. We joined a 'Trekkie' group and paid $20 bucks each to be in their movie about ST, which by the way, never went anywhere. It was a very sad time in my Trek life, believe me. They were college kids and we were in high school. They didn't think we were 'mature enough' to handle some of the "FanFic". Marilyn began a beautiful fic with Spock, but I believe she lost it. I'll have to ask her if she still has it. I loved it. It was good. I've got several stories that I've done, one that is 127 pages, but I have to "kill my darlings" and start editing it, someday. We lived on all of the rumors about Trek coming back to TV and the coming to the big screen. One year Shatner came to town and we got tickets. We were hoping for bloopers, but only got "Shore Leave", which is a good eppy, it's only a let down when you're expecting bloopers. :P

Okay, I'll shut up now and let someone else talk.

  15. Star Trek 5 is the only film in the franchise that I can confidently say has no redeeming qualities. the story is lacking in many areas and I feel that the characters do not live up to what has been created before. Basically I get the feeling that the presented view of the characters in this film is the way that Shatner has envisioned them without the guidence of an intelligent director to tell him to be quite and act.

Boy oh boy I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way! There were some cute scenes but they were far and few between. Don't get me wrong, I like Shatner but I think his, don't be offended anyone, big head got in the way of his common sense. I realize there is alot more to a movie than a director, but it's like the pitcher of a baseball team, or the quarterback of a football team, if the team looses they get blamed. Bill you dropped the ball on this one! It could have been a good addition to my collection of movies, but I think I'll leave it on the store shelf beside the "Spock's Brain" eppy!

  16. Hi all! New here. Just wanted to see what all the hubbub was about! :wow: My name is Katy and I've LOVED Trek since '74. My friend and I got into it big time in HS and it has been a blast ever since. She wanted me to go to a ST Con a couple of years ago but that fell through! :wow: I'll make it to one, some day! I'm into fanfic (writing and reading) and just ordered several of the old Spockinalia 'zines. (is that spelled right?) It looks like a great board and a wonderful place to play! I'm hoping that RL doesn't get in the way though!

I love TOS and NG. Not to keen on DS9 or Voyager, but that doesn't mean I won't watch when one catches my eye, or my attention. I like Enterprise, because of Jon/Scott, but I'm loosing interest. Haven't figured out why yet. The other characters I like are Malcolm, & Tucker.

I think Nexis (?) could have been a little better if they would have given the 'clone' a better reason to hate humans. I was hoping that his mother had been Tasha Yar's daughter who had 'fed' the 'Picard clone' the hate when he was younger. Does any of that make sense?

I'm totally rambling so I'll go see what else is going on!
