  1. With Memorial Day weekend approaching, Country stations are digging out the rarely played Patriotic songs that are the hallmark of Country Music on holidays such as this, and in times of national crisis. This Memorial day, the Country World has a new patriotic song, prepared to fall in report aboard.

Big and Rich, the duo best known for their party song "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)", are, to most people, a party crew. THey are the frontmen for the largest musical party in the country, the MuzikMafia. Their biggest hit, the aforementioned "Save a Horse...", has become a common phrase seen on bumpers and tee-shirts at any country event. Big and Rich have had a pretty good mix of Party songs and ballads, but their newest single is new territory for the duo.

The music video for "8th of November" premiered on GAC last night, and the single should be on Country radio this week. The song is a salute to the duo's friend, Niles Harris, a retired US Army veteran of 25 years, who served in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. the song follows Harris into Vietnam, and the ambush of the 173rd Airborne on November 8th, 1965 by over 1200 Vietcong in Warzone D, in which 48 American soldiers were killed, and one soldier, Lawrence Joel, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. It also follows him to the modern day, and shows the mental aftermath of such a traumatic experience.

The Video, available for viewing at www.bigandrich.com, features an intro by Kris Kristopherson, and shows Big and Rich playing guitars, while images of Vietnam combat are shown in the background. Intercut is images of Niles Harris, remembering his fellows. Also shown are many pictures of the men who died that day.

Big and Rich will perform 8th of November tonight on the ACM Awards at 8 PM eastern.

    Artist/Band: Big & Rich

Lyrics for Song: 8th of November

Lyrics for Album: Comin' To Your City

He said goodbye to his momma

    As he left South Dakota

To fight for the Red, White, and Blue

He was 19 in green with a new M-16

Just doin' what he had to do.

He was dropped in the jungle

    Where the choppers would rumble

With the smell of napalm in the air

Then the sargeant said, "Look up ahead"

And like a dark, evil cloud

    1,200 came down

    on him and 29 more

    They fought for their lives

    But most of them died

    In the 173rd Airborne

    (Chorus)

    On the 8th of November,

    The angels were cryin'

As they carried his brothers away

    With the fire rainin' down

    And the Hell all around

There were few men left standin' that day

    Saw the eagle fly,

    Through a clear, blue sky

    1965, the 8th of November

    Now hes 58

    And his ponytails grey

But the battle still plays in his head

    He limps when he walks,

But hes strong when he talks

About the shrapnel they left in leg

He puts on a grey suit

    Over his airborne tattoo

He ties it on one time a year

    And remembers the fallen,

As he orders a tall one

And swallows it down with his tears

    (Chorus)

    On the 8th of November,

    The angels were cryin'

As they carried his brothers away

    With the fire rainin' down

    And the Hell all around

There were few men left standin' that day

    Saw the eagle fly,

    Through a clear, blue sky

    1965, the 8th of November

    Saw the eagle fly,

    Through a clear, blue sky

    1965

    (Chorus)

    On the 8th of November,

    The angels were cryin'

As they carried his brothers away

    With the fire rainin' down

    And the Hell all around

There were few men left standin' that day

    (Chorus)

    On the 8th of November,

    The angels were cryin'

As they carried his brothers away

    With the fire rainin' down

    And the Hell all around

There were few men left standin' that day

    Saw the eagle fly,

    Through a clear, blue sky

    1965, the 8th of November

    The 8th of November

    The 8th of November

He said goodbye to his momma

    As he left South Dakota

To fight for the Red, White, and Blue

He was 19 in green with a new M-16

  2. what do I think is the greatest love song ever written? To me, it's

by Shania Twain. If that song doesn't sum up wedding vows, I don't know what does

That's the song Gary and I danced to at our wedding.

Right now, Toby Keith's "You shouldn't Kiss me Like this"

  3. M/A engines are supposedly nearly 100% efficient, meaning 100% of matter is turned into energy, as compared with a standard rocket, which is like 35% or something. The Gamma Ray thing is a problem for inter-atmospheric travel, but if you use an SRB or something to boost it into orbit, THEN fire off the M/A rocket, well, you might see speeds that make Apollo (The fastest space vehicle to date at over 30,000 KPH) look sluggish.

  4. Here's a pic of Miles, his rank insignia visible...

Now, the best I can tell, this is the insignia he's wearing...

This indicates that Miles is no Chief Petty Officer. He's a SENIOR CHIEF. Maybe in Starfleet it's different, but I know alot of Senior and Master Chiefs in the Navy who get kinda pissed if you simply call them Chief.

  5. Depends on who you listen to within the parties. Seems to me the loudest voices on the left side of the isle are the ones who can only spew hate, not ideas. I'm not saying the right side doesn't have a hater-aid wing to it, but the right seems to keep them in check a bit more than the left.
