  1. Wow....Odie hasn't been around here for a long long time. Maybe after meeting you, she might pop in. What the heck was she doing in Virginia anyway? She lives in San Diego as I recall.

No, she relocated to Virgina. I believe she left the Navy and moved to Virginia for a civilian job. My facts could be wrong, though.

  2. We saw it a few days ago and I was satisfied enough with it, but to be honest, my daughter is the one who is the big Harry Potter fan and has read all the books numerous times and she was disappointed with it. I suspect it was because of some of the same things that Kerry mentioned, she mentioned in particular that there was supposed to be a huge battle at the end before

    Click for Spoiler:

    Dumbledore's death
complete with ogres and other lifeforms. None of which I missed because I haven't read the books. She also said that some of the things left out were crucial to the plot whereas in previous movies they have chosen to leave out more trivial things.

So I guess to someone who hasn't read the books, the movie is entertaining enough (although I considered sneaking out and seeing Star Trek again), but to the more serious Harry Potter fans this movie was somewhat lacking.

  3. Yeah, I remember it well. I was watching it on TV with my mother and when Neil Armstrong said that famous line, I remarked about how that phrase would go down in history. There was a great deal of excitement about the landing in our neighborhood and it was about all we talked about for awhile. While we have made great strides in space exploration, I wish we were farther along. I would really like the opportunity to walk on the moon or Mars, or even go into space, but unfortunately that isn't likely to happen in my lifetime.

  4. I've never seen it either, but I have to believe that it all boiled down to money. I also can't help but think that she may have regretted the decision later. I really wish she had stayed with DS9 for the final season. I don't have anything against Ezri Dax, but imo there were too many Ezri-centric episodes.

  5. Rarely. We once spent four days at Disneyland when the girls were fairly little. Then in 1999 we spent two weeks camping and visited a lot of the western National Parks. Then there was a health crisis and all fun pretty much stopped. Now about the only traveling we do is our twice-a-year visits to San Francisco for medical checkups.

This year, however, is an exception. My youngest daughter and I are going to the Las Vegas convention in three weeks. Then in September, my oldest daughter is getting married so we are traveling to California for that.

  6. For the record, I am a loyal Star Trek fan. I don't consider myself a "Trekkie", because frankly, I don't walk around in public (or sleep in) my starfleet uniform.

But wouldn't the fact that you have a Starfleet uniform make you a Trekkie?

Well, I am a Trekkie, maybe even a "die-hard" Trekkie, and I don't even own a Starfleet uniform.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed your review, ChrisVon, and wholeheartedly agree with much of it. I really do think that you should consider yourself a "Trekkie" though, it really isn't a dirty word.

  7. That's a sweet looking shirt... I hope they make them in women's tops too...

Yes, they do but we couldn't find any women's shirts on Amazon. We ordered it from another online company. I was going to post a pic but after van roy's comment I think I'll refrain.

  8. I saw it a long time ago and enjoyed it very much. I'll probably actually buy it someday, maybe when I find it in the $5 bin at WalMart.

Yeah, I enjoyed the animals cleaning the apartment very much as well, and I believe I remember watching a special feature about how that was filmed included on the DVD. It was not an easy task.

The theme of our son and (future) daughter in-law's wedding is this movie.

You're so lucky they have everything planned. My oldest is engaged and she can't even decide on a date. She does have a dress picked out though.

  9. This is an exceptional episode. What I like about it best is that it brings out some realizations among the characters. Bashir realizes that he may sometimes be too wrapped up in his work, to the detriment of his relationships. He voices this sentiment at the end at the wake which they all attend. Miles O'brien also voices his concerns about how important it is to maintain friendships even in the midst of war in which they have all become entangled. He is also responsible for the foreshadowing of Jadzia's death when he remarks about how someday someone will be missing from their circle and the camera goes to a two-shot of Jadzia and Worf.

All-in-all, DS9 did a fairly good job of illustrating the tragic and personal nature of war. This episode went a long way toward that end.
