  1. Well we're under the 100 day mark until Star Trek XI hits the streets. I find myself both anticipating and dreading it at the same time. The dread is more out of the fear that they'll kill the franchise by trying to get cute, but my hope is that they've done it right and will revive the franchise.

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles city councilman says Ricardo Montalban has died. He was 88. The Mexican-born actor, who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died at his home in Los Angeles, City Council President Eric Garcetti said Wednesday.

Montalban lived in Garcetti's district in Los Angeles

  3. I was watching an episode of Cold Case and this was the song played at the end of the episode after they solved the case and were showing all of the characters the way they looked in the 70's vs. how they looked in 2006.

I haven't heard this song in ages, i was never a huge Elton John fan but this was one of the good ones.

    Same episode came on tonight.

  4. New fans won't add to or take away from whether or not it's a success or failure. They could add 1 million new fans but turn off 10 million existing fans and kill the franchise for the near future in terms of new projects.

Star Trek will never be dead, not for many, many years anyway. There's too many existing fans and too many hours of existing shows/movies for it to be dead. TOS being cancelled in 1969 but thriving for 10 years afterwards proved that and there were only 79 hours of Trek then.

Star Trek will survive regardless. The question is, how long will we have to wait for new Trek if the new movie fails?

  5. Not To Question You RikerChick,But Why Is This In The Trek Movies Section?

If you look in the other forums you will see most of the mods have this pinned. If someone is in trouble we don't want them to have to go searching through thousands of threads trying to find this.

Because people in trouble get their advice from Star Trek fan websites.

Does it matter where advice or help comes from? Many people actually do turn to Star Trek when they're depressed, so it's not unthinkable that someone might be depressed or in some kind of trouble and find this thread and seek help from it.

‘Greatest American Hero’ Movie In The Works

Posted by Cybergosh on 09/11 at 12:40 AM

Stephen J. Cannell, creator of the cult ‘80s TV series The Greatest American Hero, has confirmed that a feature film is in the works, says SciFi.com.

“We’ve written a screenplay, and we’ve hired a director, and we’re in the midst of putting this together for the future,” Cannell told an audience in Hollywood on Sept. 7 at the Screen Actors Guild foundation’s 75th anniversary.

The director is reportedly Stephen Herek, known for such ‘80s favorites such as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Critters--a fact Cannell did not confirm at the reunion panel.

The entire cast, producers, writers and famed stuntman Dennis “Danger” Madalone joined Cannell for a lengthy Q&A session moderated by John Tesh, a Hero historian and husband of star Connie Sellecca.

After Cannell’s movie announcement, Sellecca took the opportunity to lock in roles for herself and fellow original cast members William Katt and Robert Culp.

“I’m going to put Stephen on the spot,” Sellecca said with a grin. “Cameos for us?”

“Absolutely guaranteed,” Cannell responded. “More than cameos: acting jobs.”

"I took a sneak peek at the [feature] script, and it’s absolutely charming and wonderful,” Katt told the rapt audience. “I know people are going to love it.”

The Greatest American Hero ran for three seasons on ABC, 1981-’83, and centered on Ralph Hinkley (Katt), a teacher who comes into possession of a red alien suit that endows its wearer with superpowers--but not the instruction manual. Culp played Hinkley’s FBI minder and Sellecca his long-suffering girlfriend.

The show is enjoying a renaissance of sorts, with a new comic book produced by Katt and producing partner Chris Folino under their Catastrophic Comics banner. The first issue should hit shelves in November.

Additionally, there are plans for a series of four-minute animated Web shorts, voiced by Katt, Culp and Sellecca.

“It"s a litmus test for Stephen’s [film plans],” Katt said of the comic and shorts.

“The cast all felt--and I think the writers as well--[that] we had stories left to tell, and so that’s what we’re doing,” Katt said. “We’re picking up where we left off, and I know that there’s a great audience out there that is going to be receptive to that.”

Katt added: “In the public arena, at Comic-Con and other [conventions] out there, we’ve found that there is a tremendous warm welcome still left waiting for The Greatest American Hero.”

  7. I am fine with it. I see this as having our cake and eating it too.

I don't feel lied to in the least, it does exactly what they have said it would do all along, respect canon; the idea was born directly from dialog/events within the episodes Yesterdays Enterprise and Parallels. The original time line won't be erased, our DVDs won't become obsolete.

Of course, whether or not it is a good story is yet to be seen. I'll find out at the theater.

In Yesterday's Enterprise "our timeline" was altered though, Tasha did go back in time and had a daughter that in turn tried to take over the Klingon Empire. I didn't like that aspect either. In Parallels, the last universe Worf was in (maybe all of them) thier Worf just vanished (or so we were led to believe by Troi being upset that 'her Worf' wouldn't return).

At this point I'm leaning toward waiting for it to be on DVD and I'll just get it from Netflix.

  8. I don't like it, and it seems that a lot of others don't like it either because there seems like a lot of explanations coming out as if they're trying to cover themselves when the fans complain. "Oh, don't worry... it's just an alternate universe and it doesn't count."

I'd almost be willing to bet that they had no intention on making this an "alternate universe" story until they started getting feedback and it was negative. If they had intended it to be that way then why not just bill it as a "Mirror Universe" movie? Probably because they don't even know that the "Mirror Universe" already exists in Star Trek canon.

  9. Man uses candy cane to subdue attacker with knife

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -A man using a candy cane lawn ornament fended off a knife-wielding neighbor who had been attacking holiday guests at a Sacramento home. Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said the man used the two-foot-tall plastic ornament to subdue the attacker until officers arrived.

He said the 49-year-old suspect became intoxicated, went over to a neighbor's home on Thanksgiving and began waving a kitchen knife at people gathered on the lawn.

He cut several peoples' clothing before one of them decided to fight back.

Police said the man with the knife was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The guest who took up the candy cane was not arrested because police determined he acted in self-defense.

I'm surprised the fish lived that long with that ring inside of him!

    Fish? Ring? :)
