headborg 1 Posted March 1, 2004 Most of Star Trek deels with the Officers of the various Starships, we know that the officers come from Starfleet Acadamy-a 4 year College. My question is what's the "story" behind the enlisted crew? Where do they get their training, how long is an enlistment, and what exactly is the ranking system for them-besides simply being Crewman x?
Jim Phaserman 0 Posted March 1, 2004 I think the enlisted go through a "Boot Camp" at the Academy, though it is substantially shorter. they probably also recieve their trianing. Enlisted ranks are unknown, but one can postulate it is similar to US Navy. probable enlisted ranks by way enlisted are addressed: Crewmen Recruit Crewman Apprentice Crewman Petty Officer 3rd Class Petty Officer 2nd Class Petty Officer 1st Class Cheif Petty Officer Senior Cheif Petty officer Master Cheif Petty Officer. Takara_Soong 4 Posted March 1, 2004 WOO HOO!!! Jim, you and I agree on something!!! It isn't really dealt with in great detail but I believe there are a couple of episodes where the process is briefly mentioned, possibly The Drumhead and a O'Brien episode on TNG. I agree with Jim again about the ranks as you might recall that Worf's adopted father was a Chief Petty Officer when he found Worf on Khitamer. OMG, agreeing twice in one post.
