Theunicornhunter 2 Posted February 29, 2004 A little Leap Day Trivia Interesting Fact: The Henriksen family of Norway had three children born on successive leap days: Heidi – 1960, Olav – 1964, and Leif-Martin 1968 You’re probably familiar with the technical reasons for leap day but what about leap year customs. Apparently St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick that only men could do the proposing so he declared that every leap year (for the entire year)it was acceptable for women to propose. If a man declined he was supposed to buy the woman a new dress to ease the pain of rejection. The leap year custom of women doing the proposing should not be confused with Sadie Hawkins Day which was a creation of the L'il Abner comic strip. Happy Leap Day.
