I've known about this for some time. Think of the boon to business. By reclassifying people as salaried rather than hourly they can work them an unlimited number of hours and not have to compensate them. Companies already have been doing this to an extent - when they have layoffs - the remaining employees get stuck doing the jobs of two. And with the job situation the way it is they do it without complaining. Since the total number of hours worked for salaried employees isn't counted - our productivity level appears very high.

This is one way to fill the nursing shortage - one of the fields set to become exempt from overtime pay.

Another field, IT, yes programmers, networkers etc. - you know the 60-70 hour a week jobs. I know some people on this board have indicated their intent to pursue IT. Be advised it is also one of the fields targeted for overseas outsourcing. Of course when all the jobs are gone we won't even be able to work in the fields - because those will be filled under the new immigration policy.

Lovely isn't it.

Don't forget to call your congressional reps
