Scott Bakula Beams Onto The Enterprise

Scott Bakula (Jonathan Archer) will soon be visiting one of the ancestors of the Enterprise NX-01 — the US Navy's Enterprise CVN 65.

 

Bakula, his father Stewart, who is a former US Navy pilot, and publicist Jay D. Schwartz have been invited to visit the aircraft carrier, The Captain's Chair reported.

 

The invite is a reciprocal gesture from the crew of the real-life USS Enterprise, whose "Sailors of the Year" have visited the Enterprise sets for the last two seasons. This year's guests of honour, James D. Frey, Kathy J. Grant and Thomas P. Hunt, filmed cameo appearances in "First Flight" in early March (story).

 

Bakula will be accompanied by Entertainment Tonight's Mark Steines, who has often reported from the Enterprise sets. In 2001 Bakula gave Steines the first media tour of the NX-01 and the reporter returned in August last year to preview the show's second season, even donning one of the heavy bronze spacesuits. According to The Captain's Chair, a segment on the visit to the USS Enterprise will likely air sometime after April 30.

 

There is a long and friendly relationship between the crew of USS Enterprise and their fictional counterparts. When the aircraft carrier was serving overseas, the sailors were sent regular tapes of the latest Enterprise episodes, and Scott Bakula recorded a message welcoming the USS Enterprise home in November, 2001. The carrier's "Sailors of the Year" have also appeared in two episodes, "Desert Crossing" and "First Flight".
