How exactly does a sonic shower work? I seem to remember briefly seeing B'Elanna take one during an episode, but it has never been explained on any level, at least not to me. If nobody knows how exactly it works, does anybody know what it does or is?

The only technical manual I have is the TNG one and it doesn't cover the topic but I did find this at Memory Alpha:

 

The sonic shower was a technology that uses sonic pulse vibrations to remove dirt and grime from a humanoid body at the atomic level. The person is cleaned because the dirt is essentially dissolved in the process.
