Sam The Smuggler 1 Posted August 14, 2003 This Has Been Bugging Me For Some Time Now. On The Opening, Before We See The Enterprise, We See Another Similar Looking Ship. Any Idea What It Is?
Jack_Bauer 1 Posted August 14, 2003 isn't it similar to the model that young Archer painted in the premiere?
Sam The Smuggler 1 Posted August 14, 2003 Hmm...I don't remeber.
A l t e r E g o 9 Posted August 14, 2003 isn't it similar to the model that young Archer painted in the premiere? Excellent possibility Jack_Bauer! Next time I view BB I will pay closer attention of the credit ship and the toy.
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted August 14, 2003 I've wondered that myself, I don't believe it's ever (yet) been explained. It looks to be a class of ship that comes before the NX-01 I would guess a Warp 3 or Warp 4 ship. The nacelles are more attached to the saucer section then the NX-01 or any other class of ship we've seen so far. If I recall right it comes after Cochrane's ship but before the NX-01. Right? VaBeachGuy 12 Posted August 14, 2003 Ok, here's the ship Young archer is painting and flying in episode 1 and a clip from the opening credits of the mystery ship. You be the judge, I don't think they are the same though. (Sorry for the video quality, it's the best I could do on short notice lol) http://www.startrekfans.net/pics/swf/ship.swf
A l t e r E g o 9 Posted August 14, 2003 After watching that clip three time's I am not so convinced they are the same but I need better quality to say for sure. Thanks for trying
VaBeachGuy 12 Posted August 14, 2003 This is the best quality I can get it and remain within a reasonable size file: I think the mystery ship looks like it has a saucer, the toy doesn't. But it's hard to see the mystery ship. http://www.startrekfans.net/pics/ship.ram
A l t e r E g o 9 Posted August 14, 2003 That quality made a big difference, on the model there are "engines" simular to to the credit ship but, the credit ship has 2 additional "glows" on the right and left side of the fore mentioned engines which are missing on the model. Also, the pylons on the credit ship are longer and more upwardly curved.

Like I said though, I also think the credits ship has a saucer and the model doesn't.
A l t e r E g o 9 Posted August 14, 2003 I cannot tell if the credit ship has a saucer or not but it does appear to be "thinner" than the model.
trekzone 0 Posted August 14, 2003 According to Bernd Scheinder of EAS (from memory), it is a prototype of the NX-class vessel (capable of less than (or possibly) warp 5.
