Coca-Cola was originally green.

This is incorrect. The original formula for Coca-Cola called for caramel, which gave it a brown color. The only time Coca-Cola has ever appeared green is when it was bottled in green bottles.

The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old English law which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.

Also incorrect. Way back in the day, carpenters (and other craftsmen and women) created the rule of thumb by using their own thumbs as instruments of measurement, since from the tip of the thumb to the first knuckle is approximately one inch.

Rule of thumb was never attributed to any laws until during the femenist movement.

I honestly don't know. Um, Wikipedia probably has an article on feminism.

As for the rule of thumb discussion - here's an interesting site - basically it says the law probably wasn't the source of the saying as WF said - but there was such a law (and it predated the feminist movement by a couple fo centuries)

On a side note - a couple of webpages made such a great deal that wifebeating has been illegal in the US since before the Revolution. Well, the law may have been on the books but it has only been in the last couple of decades that it has been seriously enforced.

But "I am" has less letters. Though I think that "I do" is shorter, since the letter d is shorter in length than the letter m. :)
