Stephen of Borg 2 Posted December 17, 2005 I was in the winter storm and the power in my house has been off since 7am Thursday morning and has just cut back on about an hour ago. It felt so good to have a shower again. I've learned through this experience that you can't take things for granted. With no electricity, I couldn't cook anything or see where I was going at night. Not to mention I couldn't use the bathroom or even watch TV. It really does make you appreciate the things u have when stuff like this happens. Especially when you sit in the dark and cold for two and a half days. Even TV is more enjoyable now that I haven't seen it in so long. Anyway, that's where I have been. Glad that everything is pretty much back to normal, Gamera
Takara_Soong 4 Posted December 18, 2005 (edited) Lessa Soong is in Georgia as well. She told me about her area being hit with an ice storm. She was lucky in that they only lost their phone service for a day. Her father-in-law's power went off but not for as long as yours, Gamera. The worst part for her was her kids' school was closed and their Christmas party was cancelled. I know when I was her kids' ages that would have been devastating to me. ddillard 2 Posted December 21, 2005 We usually have at least one bad ice storm a year that takes out power. Last year most of the area was without power for almost a week while the power company worked to restore the service. What makes it worse here is that apartment complexes do not allow any kind of kerosene or fuel heat so if the power is out so is your heat until such time as the service is restored.
