Kor37 9 Posted September 19, 2005 This is really weird: Subject: History Lesson History Lesson Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.' Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

BakulaBabe 2 Posted September 19, 2005 That's extremely eerie! I've heard some of those things before, but a lot of this is news to me. That's a lot of coincidences.....makes me wonder.....
Matt 0 Posted September 19, 2005 It's not really a coincidence. I was given this in a statistics for psychology lecture a few years ago - it's just to show that statistics can be used to prove anything. You could do that with anything, any two people. BakulaBabe 2 Posted September 19, 2005 Statistics? Interesting! Guess I'll have to think twice - or more - next time someone presents statistics to prove a point.
Matt 0 Posted September 19, 2005 Never trust statistics. You can arrange statistics to prove any point you like that's why you can never trust them in advertising, news polls, economics etc.
BakulaBabe 2 Posted September 19, 2005 Sounds like good advice.

I mean if 80% of your customer service complaints are about one employee and the remaining 20% about the other nine people AND all calls are randomly assigned in equal volume to each employee during the same time period - I think I'd suspect a problem. Kor37 9 Posted September 19, 2005 Boy...this thread sure got off topic in record time Despite what you think is mere statistics, the similarities between Lincoln and Kennedy are still amazing.
BakulaBabe 2 Posted September 19, 2005 Oops, sorry about that. It's still facinating information. Do you know if there's other similarities between other Presidents?

BakulaBabe 2 Posted September 20, 2005 Oops again. Thanks, HRH.
Matt 0 Posted September 20, 2005 My point was that you can pick any two people and make a list of "coincidences". I'm sure Bakulababe that if you choose any two presidents and go through their lives you could find facts and dates that match. This is kind of one of my pet peeves and I was thinking along the same lines of your first post but I don't know that I'd never trust statistics. I mean if 80% of your customer service complaints are about one employee and the remaining 20% about the other nine people AND all calls are randomly assigned in equal volume to each employee during the same time period - I think I'd suspect a problem. You're right TUH I was exagerating when I said you could never trust statistics but you should usually take them with a pinch of salt.
