Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 17, 2005 The third fleet is a Message board based RPG, set during the Early Dominion War. the fleet is currently in the organisational process now, so now is the time to jump in on the ground floor! Possitions are available commanding ships of the Fleet. Right now 11 ships are in the 1st Fleet, and over the next 24-48 hours I am anticipating another 10 to 15 ships to be added to our list. If you've ever wanted to command a starship during the Dominion War, now is the chance to do so! Odo 0 Posted June 17, 2005 Jim that sounds cool. Never been in a RPG. But what i think would be really cool. Is having a shape shifter as captain of a Warship fighting for the federation against his own kind and the internal conflict onboard. and his effort to prove himself. To his ship and command. Just a thought.
Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 17, 2005 Would be very interesting, Odo, even if I'm not Jim.

Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Okay, we're back online. I'll be launching a recruiting Blitz amongst my online friends, hopefully we get some members. and we now have 16 active vessels, 14 of which need commanders. Another five will be joining shortly. Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 18, 2005 Okay, more ships are online now. Only a few have commanding officers, and I will be updating the Commanders' names as soon as I can.
NordicBearskin 0 Posted June 20, 2005 Looks really interesting, if you have a space I *might* like to sign up. EDIT* Was 'love', but I've gotten a tad confused... Does one person control a ship and role-play the crew, or is that divided up into several people?
Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 21, 2005 You can choose to play the crew yourself, or if we have enough members, the crew will be assigned as real players. Right now, though, we have soo many openings, I have no problem with you playing the part of your entire crew. Just make sure I get a manifes of who's on your ship (Crew members, especially ship's senior staff)
NordicBearskin 0 Posted June 22, 2005 Interesting... Thanks for the response, I'll watch from the sidelines for a bit and see how things go before I decide. :(
Jim Phaserman 0 Posted June 22, 2005 Gary's got this thing set up pretty slickly. I like the User Group Icons for the various groups.
M_5 0 Posted June 23, 2005 Question:If I sign up to command a ship, must I allow other people to fill the roles of my crew,or can I be everyone aboard my vessel? Because I already have a ship and crew worked out.I write ST fan fic (have for years),and I keep my stories more realistic than the Trek on television.Especially the stories involving combat. Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 23, 2005 You don't have to allow others on your crew. just post your crew manifest, and I'll make a note that you aren't accepting applications for additional crew. What class of ship is your vessel?
M_5 0 Posted June 23, 2005 USS Lord Nelson NCC-10312 Excelsior-Class (original configuration). Crew manifest to follow later.
Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 23, 2005 Excelsior Class? I'll have to check, but I do not believe any of our task forces are presently operating any, but one might be an Interesting addition.
M_5 0 Posted June 23, 2005 How can you not pack several Excelsior's around? They're the workhorse of the 'Fleet. Oh well,Nelly's my ship. My manifest may seem a little odd.To better visualize my main characters,I cast real actors in my mind to play the roles  So when I post my crew list you'll see two names:the character, followed by the actor portraying that person. Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 23, 2005 Feel free to join, M_5, I've loosened up the joining requirements. When I founded the fleet with my XO, Admiral Mike Favre (Yes, he's a Green Bay Packers' Fan!) we set up 1st and 2nd Task Forces over the phone. It never occured to me to add Excelsior class starships. Setting this in the Dominion War, I was thinking of ships that were pretty aggressive warships, so naturally the Akira and Defiant class starships jumped right into mind. we're also using two new designs, one of which is featured at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and I also posted in the King's "Project for a new federation Century", the Hornet class Fleet Carrier. the other is a design I've used in a few other sims in various incarnations, the Admiralty Class. Admiralty and her sisterships are battleships, armed with the latest weapons (the Type XVI Rotary Pulse Phaser system) and are designed to directly counter the large Dominion Battleship (first seen in the DS9 Episode "Valiant") Admiralty is roughly the same size as the Dominion Battleship, about 1200 meters long, but instead of being flat, she's actually taller and rounder. M_5 0 Posted June 23, 2005 Excellent.I've always thought the lack of dreadnoughts and carriers in the Starfleet was a bad oversight (no wonder the Fed's got pounded so bad those first 6-months!). Don't worry about Nelly, she'll hold her own.And if she occasionally gets beaten-up,well,...battlescars add character. Being an older model ship,I've had more than a couple stories where I've had the crew utilize hit-and-run guerilla-style tactics to overcome a superior foe (when realistic),and other times...well,they just ran and hid.Whatever works.I don't think I've done much in the way of true fleet battles.More one-on-one or one-against-many match-ups.I also like stories where the 'Nelly drops out of warp, lands a group of naval infantry on a planet/starbase,and leaves. Most of my fanfic tends to be pretty gritty and straight forward describing the life of a front-line combat soldier and what he or she goes through (not that I have first-hand experience.I've learned alot from my dad who was in the Pacific during WWII and in Korea),and my brothers who have fought (the oldest in Vietnam, two others during Desert Storm...a third in Colombia, fighting the drug cartels). That last brother has some pretty hairy tales. After he was discharged from the Army,he went mercenary.Don't see him much anymore (says he's an "international security specialist" ).Great guy, though.Awesome input. Tomorrow I'll post that manifest,or PM you eith it.
Gary Phaserman 0 Posted June 23, 2005 I'll have a picture of the Admiralty class (no weapons are visible, though) up on the fleet sim soon. I'm also going out of town tomorrow (Me, Jim, Julie and Krissy are going up North till Sunday for a music festival) but I will check it when I get back. M_5 0 Posted June 25, 2005 After further consideration,I think I'll pass.Sorry. But sim's take a little more time than I can spare right now.As it is I'm lucky to get an hour a day on the Internet, and most of that is spent reading news blogs and posting at three different sci-fi message boards.
