Jeffrey Combs

Recommended Posts

I just found out that Jeffrey Combs, the actor who played Shran, Brunt, Wayoun etc., originally auditioned for the part of Riker in TNG. I found this quite strange. Just wondering what others thought of this and if any of ye know of any other examples like this.

Yes, Jeffrey Combs is a very versatile actor. He's played on DS9, Voyager and Enterprise playing at least 5 different alien races (and playing all of them well).

True.

"Along with Randy Oglesby he is one of only two actors to play seven different characters on 'Star Trek.'

Along with Brian Markinson, he is one of only two people to play two different characters in a single episode of 'Star Trek.'"

Vaughn Armstrong, who holds the record for playing the most characters on Trek, also auditioned for the part of Riker.

Did anyone see him on The 4400 this week?

I did. Jeffrey did a good job and I'm glad he's part of that series now.

I saw that interview where he talked about auditioning for Riker. Combs even said that he was obviously wrong for the part and didn't even know why they wanted him to read for it.

I think that would have been strange, but I'm sure we would have liked him.

So he has a regular part, or was it just a guest appearance?

It was a guest spot, but his character seems integral to the plot of the show. I'm pretty sure he'll be in more episodes.
