HRH The KING 0 Posted June 5, 2005 This was an absolutely stunning episode. The writing in this episode were totally world class. The performances of Paul Winfield (RIP) and Patrick Stewart were of a standard of brilliance I cannot possibly do justice to in this review. You must see this episode. Whoever thought that a line like "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" would be so endearing and compelling. Superb. Gold Standard episode. Rating =
GhostofMajorHayes 10 Posted December 23, 2007 Growing up I liked this TNG ep the best and consider among my personal fave eps of the series. I give it a 5. This was a neat high concept ep about a race that speaks in metaphor. Paul Winfield did a superb job in his role of Darmok and who can forget his classic line "Darmok and Jilad at Tannagra"? An ep that i never tire of even after years of watching it countless times.
youbroughtheryouRiker 2 Posted January 25, 2008 5. Great writing, great acting, great effects used, great directing, and some not-so-shabby advice at the end thrown into the mix.
SeeingEyeBorg 0 Posted January 26, 2008 I adore this ep. Like GhostofMajorHayes was saying, the idea that race speaks entirely in metaphor is a brilliant and marvelous invention. I gave it a 5.
trekz 7 Posted January 26, 2008 Excellent 5 star episode with guest stars Paul Winfield and Ashley Judd. Trivia from Memory Alpha: Memorable Quotes "Darmok, and Jalad... at Tanagra!" - Dathon "Shaka, when the walls fell." - Dathon and Picard (repeated often by both) "Temba, his arms wide!" - Dathon "That's how you communicate, isn't it? By citing example... by metaphor! Uzani's army... with fists open..." "Sukat, his eyes uncovered!" - Picard and Dathon "Darmok, and Jalad... on the ocean." "Darmok and Jalad... they left together." - Dathon and Picard Background Information This is the first episode which introduces a new captain's uniform: a grey undershirt with an open red jacket. Although the jacket has a black yoke like the standard uniforms, the yoke is made of a material that looks like leather and has a quilted pattern. Also, the red portion of the jacket is made from a material that looks like suede. This episode marks the first appearance of the Type 6 shuttlecraft. Paul Winfield was previously seen in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as the ill-fated Captain Clark Terrell. The story about Gilgamesh and Enkidu is from the Epic of Gilgamesh, a Babylonian poem which is one of the earliest known literary works (2150 BC-2000 BC). This episode marks the first appearance of Ensign Robin Lefler, who later played an important part in discovering the conspiracy in the episode "The Game". Uncredited Co-Stars Rex Pierson as an El-Adrel IV lifeform Cameron as Ensign Kellogg Norman Hunte as Tamarian #1 Milan Ruba as Tamarian #
DaboGirl 7 Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) A 5! Maybe even a 6 on a 5 star scale! The late/great Paul Winfield was excellent as Dathon! Edited October 2, 2008 by DaboGirl
