The USS Enterprise rendezvous with the cargo vessel Antares to pick up 17 year old Charlie Evans, the sole surviving human of a transport accident and alone on a deserted planet since the age of 3 to transport him to colony Alpha V. Charlie, having grown up with no other human interaction knows very little about how to co-exist with other humans and struggles to adjust to life on a starship. When strange things begin to happen the crew begins to realize that Charlie may not have been as alone on the planet as was believed and the mythical Thasians may actually exist. One of the great scenes of this episode is where Lt. Uhura sings to Spock's playing. Cast: William Shatner as James T. Kirk Leonard Nimoy as Spock DeForest Kelley as Leonard H. McCoy Nichelle Nichols as Uhura Guest Cast: Grace Lee Whitney as Janice Rand Robert Walker Jr. as Charlie Evans Charles J. youbroughtheryouRiker 2 Posted December 1, 2006 This was actually a very good episode. Walker does an incredibly terrific job as Charlie. Shatner performs well enough. The solution is a little contrived, as well as the appearance of the Thasians, but other than that a great episode. A 4. P.S. At this point, I'm not sure who I'd rather have as a mate: Counselor Troi or Yeoman Rand. Yowza!!
Kor37 9 Posted December 1, 2006 Yeoman Rand all the way!!!!! What a hottie she was back then! Anyway.....another great episode. The cast had so much fun with this one that Grace Lee Whitney and Robert Walker, Jr. still call each other Janice and Charlie when they run into each other. Kirk's uneasiness with playing the "father figure" really comes out in this episode. I guess that Carol Marcus knew what she was doing keeping David away from kirk after all..... GhostofMajorHayes 10 Posted September 16, 2007 I would've said good, but then i recalled how space teen Charlie de-faced a crewmember!! That was a first for Trek. I don't recall that ever happening again in an ep.A Great Episode!
DaboGirl 7 Posted October 2, 2008 Walker great as Charlie and another good Rand episode as well. Those 1st dozen or so TOS episodes really gave the supporting characters a lot to do and consequently they were very good. A Five!
Stephen of Borg 2 Posted October 18, 2008 an interesting character and a sad ending, but the episode just doesn't work for me. I give it a 3 out of
